In fact he's not the one that's evil, the evil one is the one that killed his mate and baby and with a hose just washed the baby off the deck into the water like it was nothing but garbage truly evil. No! That whale's not evil he just wants revenge on what was taken away from him and wouldn't that be something we'd want if some cruel heartless being took our family away from us in such a cruel manner so really I say" Are animals really any different from people?
I saw this when I was a kid. I was mesmerized by the Orca! I’ve learned everything I could about them since. They are the most magnificent creatures under God’s creation! I hope we are forgiven for what we’ve done to them!

There brain emotionaly is way bigger than ours so I think tho they will be mad they will understand that most of us feel regret and want pure peace with them like you I've been obsessed with orcas since I was very very little at the age of 3 I started memeroize the many diffrient animal species in the open seas and for some reason to this day I tend to take in WAY MORE INFORMATION BOUT THE ORCA THEN ANY OTHER ANIMALmy theory is that it'd my passion and love for these creatures that gave me and still gives me this ability to gather information about orcas faster than any other animal plus like you I also know a lot about them and truly from the heart tho there have been very very small reports of orcas getting frustrated but from what I can take in none lethal in the wild I WHOLE HEARTLY BELIVE THAT THEY KNOW that most of us do want peace with them I love these creature and it's my life goal to one day swim with them and if live long enough show my kids this buteaful and and I love these magnificent buteaful animals🐳🐋🐋🐋🐋💙💙💙💙💙

I saw this at the theater when it first came out. I WAS BLOWN AWAY! I've loved these orcas ever since.
That´s the proof...Orcas never forget anything. And if you look into their eyes...they will never forget your face and what you did to them. They are my favourite animals and I love them so much❤

It's a nerve wracking film.
This was so much better than Jaws. It's "Free Willy" meets "The Punisher"👍

Can't believe my grandparents took me to watch this and Jaws at the Drive in when I was only 6/7 years old. Grew up in a beach town, never went in the water lol.

I saw both too and I was 5 When Orca came out. I grew up in Nebraska so I didn’t fear the beach. But I would not have too a foot in the water if I lived there after seeing this. I remember this and Jaws like it was yesterday. Scared me against Orcas forever.

@Cinematic Passages you know wild orcas are scarier watch how they hunt sharks its cruel calculated and efficient and imo it would be far more likley for this scenario to happan than a giant killer great white

I saw that movie years ago..i think the beach scene where Orca pushed his mate to the shore made me cry.
Actually they do carry their dead babies across their heads. Mothers do. Google it. Just recently they followed her far behind she had it like that on her head for 17 days. Other orca in her pod brought her fish too. More caring than alot of humans. It kills me when they are hurt by ppl.

I saw this movie a long time ago and even though it was quite a while ago I still remember parts of it like when that creep killed the orca's life partner and their unborn baby and a real creep would do like what he done to the mother and the baby and I don't blame the male orca one bit wanting revenge on him, killing his mate and baby, he deserved to be killed like all monsters like him and I was glad that he got killed at the end but I also glad that the woman with him wasn't harmed cause I mean she didn't do anything to anyone or anything so why should she die or be harmed in anyway after the orca got his revenge on the one who killed his mate and baby he swam away. I know how and where to get this movie and I'm going to get it sooner or later on DVD.
For what I remember about this movie ...Yes! When the orca lost his life partner and his unborn baby that was sad and all because of an act of cruelty but he got his revenge in the end against the man who took them from him so that was awesome. I've recently purchased this movie off the internet so I can't wait to get it and refresh my memories of this movie but I already have all the Jaws movies I collect movies like Jaws and other shark movies and other creature features but I didn't have Orca till now.
I was only 5. I cried like a little baby. It tore me up. I cried every time i thought about it. But what i learned about Sea world recently. Well that Shamu freak show. So evil. If ppl had any idea. They wouldnt thought it was entertainment. Sea world went out off oregon several boats they wanted 8. 4 mid size adults. 4 pups. All but 2 drowned! This is true!. This woman had seen on news seaworld was doing that and back then ppl didnt get it? They naively thought theyd be treated well im sure. So she told her kids. We are going to go to beach andvwatch them catch the whales. They werent parked 5 minutes both if her kids were crying and screaming. Mommy!! The babies are crying out for their mothers!! Through the eyes of a child u know. So the adult ones hilding pen was so small he couldnt even turn around. So shallow poor guys tail sat on bottom. They had cple smaller ones in another pen. They all cried to each other constantly. Some trainers were so upset by it. They whistleblower s but Seaworld must made small upgrades and paid off some ppl. Well the big male was in there dont quote me. About 10 years they couldnt stop him from ramming his head at full speed into concrete wall out of frustration. He ended up having a brain anuerysm and just like Shamu. The poor whale was dumped in miami dump!! No plaque. No anything! After the great but sad Blackfish the World protested. Laws were changed. They couldnt start catching any mammals orcabor dolphin o think. But ciuld keep the ones already there. Public outcry. Let them go! Well this oldest female they had since 1967! Older than me they were going to release her to a whale sanctuary. Poor girl died this month 2024 56 yrs in seaworld!!! Bastards. She never saw her home or family again.

This was my favourite film as a kid in the 80s.watched it loads of times
You know, when Brody killed the shark in Jaws, it felt like a hard-earned triumph.
But when the orca came for Richard Harris, we kinda knew he deserved it.

It's such a shame that there aren't any of them left in the wild, God knows how many Killer Whales are left in the wild, both males and females, even if the females have babies, and God knows what chance would a Killer Whale calf have when he's on his own, maybe a slim chance, unless either another Female Killer whale that lost a calf herself or a Killer Whale Pod adopts them.

If this film was released in 2011 after the documentary Blackfish instead of the 70s due to Jaw, I feel it would have been a great political educational horror film because it did capture the orcas capability to hunt sharks and the senseless animal cruelty affecting both the animals and the environments.

I barley remember anything about this movie, but that part where the mother was harpooned and her half-born baby was washed off the boat like some trash NEVER left my mind. I was fully on the side of the orca. That crew deserved everything that happened to them

I just watched a bit of this movie. It's so sad, but shows the bond between family orcas. One Orca was murdered and the mate orca came back for justice(48) True Love story.
They used real Styrofoam to recreate scene on iceberg, which is amazing!
📺 i was only 9 years old when i watched this movie with my grandfather back then.
Haven't seen it since then, I wish they would play on television again. I know just came out sometime and the 70s, just don't know exactly what year. I think they need to release this as a anniversary. This is truly underrated.

This movie is underrated it is good
Its both good and sad. The 2 whales used in the film (yaka and Nepo) were violently captured in 1969. Nepo died in 1980 from unknown causes and Yaka from a fungal lung infection in 1997. They lost their lives so young as a result of the industry.

Squids and Octopuses are used a bit in aquatic horror movies as well. Tentacles is a good example.

I was 5 or 6 y/o and saw this at the Galaxy theater in Davao City in 77 or 78, Imagine, a kid watching an Orca in a movie screen as big as a 3 story building, it's magic. I also saw Wild Geese and remember feeling sad specially with it's song.

This was based on a book of the same name, written by Arthur Herzog (III), who also wrote another story called *The Swarm* , which was also adapted into a movie in 1978.

Just because it was made to cash in on Jaws and uses aquatic animals as a monster doesn't mean it's a rip off. Orca is a reverse Moby Dick where the whale is seeking revenge on the Captain Ahab. Also this film was more character driven as well (not to say Jaws didn't have character development, but this film's focus was on the madness that builds on Orca and the whalers eventually having to face his punishment)

I don't exactly remember when I saw this movie but I know I saw it! Maybe it's been so long and that's why I don't remember but still I know I saw this movie.
I was 5 years old when I saw this movie my sister's rented it out after it came out on VIDEO we all witched it together all eight of us when the female orca got killed and they hang her up on the hook Five to 10 minutes Later the baby whale popped out and after that the father to the baby whale won'ted Revenge and Revenge he got it but the only one the whale didn't harm was the woman on the boat and after the whale did what he had to like sinking the boat but the whale pushed a block of ice so the woman can hop on to it safely before sinking the boat with its Mighty strength and what made my sister's cry after one of my sisters holding me so tight the Killer whale popped his head out from the ice cold water and looked at the Woman on the ice he left alone and began to (CRY) and at the same time my sister's began to cry too this is one of the first Movie i ever seen at a very young age and I'm so so glad my sister's were with me at the time since then my sister Never let me out of there sight not even for a second I'll Cherish these moments for a lifetime.
