It took me 2 runs on the stupid updates till I came across your video, so what the hell... I'll give it a shot. For those afraid to loose progress on the game... buy an external memory or hard drive to save your game. So the key is: 1)enable internet 2)get the 1st update 3) cancel the next one 4)disable internet 5)install that 1st update 6)then repeat the process as 1 to 5 step, till you get all updates one by one right?
Well today july 3th 2020 I could install all updates with no issue, here is the info: 1.- save your game progress in a usb stick to keep your records. 2.- delete game updates. Leave the game as it installs for the first time. 3.- VERY IMPORTANT STEP. DELETE YOUR GAME PROGRESS FROM THE PS3. KEEP YOUR GAME PROGRESS IN YOUR USB DISK. LEAVE NO TRACE OF ANY PROGRESS OF THIS GAME IN THE CONSOLE. 4.- start updating one pkg at a time . 5.- after any pkg is installed start the game. Install the update. Get into the lobby. Gt6 will ask for a name everytime you get into the game once is updated the 22 times. Put any letter in name and last name. 6.- once finished all updates. Confirm in the gt6 lobby that you have the 1.22 version you may exit the game and. 7.- copy your progress that you prevously saved in your usb stick in the ps3 again. 8.- start your freshly gt6 1.22 version. Thats all.
young me was a dumbass and followed some tutorial that promised i wouldnt lose any progress (i lost it all) anyway to get back 10 years worth of game saves?
Just followed this strategy and it worked. Like the other guy said, you can install the first 7 updates with no problem before cutting internet connection and letting the in game update run. After that, I found you can expedite this by downloading 2-3 updates at the same time as long as they don’t exceed about 500 mb together.
ikr it's crazy, idk why the update is bigger than the game itself even on an ssd it takes over an hour 2024 for me wanted to try gt5 and 6 since I found a ps3 for cheap but it's a hassle so far

I've done this before and I'm preparing to do it again -- you can cut down some time by knowing that 1.07 was the update that broke the in-game updater so you can confidently do the first 7, and then start the process highlighted in this video. I don't know how many there's to do now, but you'd maybe save 1/5-6 hours of the unfortunately tedious process of this by doing those first 7 at once and then going from there. Cheers!!!
Is this true? If I let it update the first 7 in a group then start doing the rest individual the same way he does in the video, then by the time I finish I can use online?
@@red_umu7392 Thanks got it now. My problem was related to my internet all I had to do was use a friends router instead of the 4g from my phone. Not sure if that is related to 4g but I dobught it but if it isn't working then reset your router or try another one.
@Rikki Starrett Had the same issue with my GT6 even purchased a new disc and still no play the issue is the PS3 Hard Drive ...I had it wiped clean deleted ...now the Game works fine ! after months of headaches and no play ....GT6 is the best game period and I refuse to buy a PS4 to play ...have all the gear ... Steering wheel pedals chair ...AMG F1 Mercedes .....and F1 Ferrari .....online play is not missed .......
@@fivevenomstyle6337 hi. In playing offline I'm guessing it's really not a big deal since the servers are offline anyway? Also, when you say it crashes. Do you have to re-download everything after it crashes on the 2115 update or can you just reset and not have to re DL everything? Thanks

You are a legend. I played it on the first update to try and maybe later on I'll finish updating the game. Now I know how to do it. Thank you. It saved me from waiting over 13 hours and a burned down house ( ps3 almost overheated).

He am I in 2020. This videos helped me but you dont actually need to do the updates one by one. Do it in four steps. 6, 4, 6, 5. Theres only one thing you need to make sure. One of the updates has around 400mb, this one needs to be done in the third step and the following 2 updates have to go with it.
This method does not work. the bug will happen whether you baby sit it or not. I've done this multiple times with no success. The farthest I got was v1.20 before I got this error. It rediculos a first party product could be this broken....
Thanks bro, I did it and its working! I have downloaded 6 of 21 updates, then disable net connection, started the game, and waited for installation of 6 updates. Then, repeated remain updates, 1 by 1.

Try update the 1.06 first before you cancel. Disable the internet, then get in until you're in the main menu. Quit out, enable internet, update once, cancel, disable, do the same. It's just a repeating process as seen in this video. Just make sure you wipe out the game data and backup your save game first before you do this process so it will be clean. You could also rebuild the database before doing this just in case.
At the time of this comment in March 2021, it worked! I followed every step and managed to update the game fully with no problems. Thank you. It's unfortunate that this issue still exists.
@@timemachine20yearsago73 Nope. I don't even have a PSN account and yet, I was able to update GT6 with an internet connection. I've seen a few people in the comments say they got a game freeze after entering their name or after buying a Honda Fit. What I'd do is set up your name, buy your first car, and do a few races first on v 1.00 before you start updating. Back up your save on a USB in case. I hope this is helpful for you.
7/15/21 I bought GT6 today and updated the game from scratch, took about 3 1/2 hours to update and install though it said 5 minutes remaining for a couple of hours. I didn't use the method in the video or any other, simply waited for all downloads so I hope people out there are no longer dealing with the install issues.

Deleted the data. Disabled Internet connection. Game started. My kid is playing right now. Old school. Don't need to play online anyway. It's an old game . Ps3. What am I missing?
So I just figured I would share my experience real quick. I went through this entire process several times with my PS3 fat. I followed the instructions to the letter and it did not work past the fifth update. 1.06 It would consistently fail past that point no matter how careful I followed the instructions. In the end, I ended up purchasing a solid-state drive and the digital download copy of the game for $15. This was in addition to the physical copy that I had because I have a suspicion that it was due to slow read speeds from the Blu-ray and possibly the way that this game installs files as you play. Once I allowed the digital download to fully install, I downloaded the first six updates 1.06 and then downloaded each sub sequent update one at a time following instructions until version 1.11. Then I updated in groups from 1.12 to version 1.16. Then I went from 1.17 to 1.22. And to my relief I now have a fully operational game thank God. Not sure if it mattered but I was making sure to clear the cache every time. Just a heads up keep an eye on your HDD indicator light if that ever stops flashing then the installation will fail. Also, all updates were displaying an indication of progress which they were not before I added the ssd. Good luck everyone else!
Matt Franclemont I'm having that same problem with update 1.06. I'm gonna try cleaning the cache but if that doesn't work, could it be my disc? Should I get another gt6 disc or should I just get the digital version
I purchased a new drive and the Disc works plays loads ! it was worth it best game still in 2019 ....Refuse to buy a PS4 when this is the only game that matters ....
Yes this gets your game working again but it also deletes all you progress and current game data so you have to start from the beginning with no money & not cars
Tried this with no success. After I’m installing the 1st update and disable the internet. The problem is that I can’t enter the GT6 game without internet, it giving me an alert and not loading the game.
Thanks it worked, I haven't played in a while and it asked for the update and it failed after hours loading. Didn't know what to do to not lose my data. So after watching this video I deleted everything on gt6 except my backup file. Did the ree download steps here and WALLA! Working fine 🙂
Thank you for this tutorial, it took me like 5 times to repeat this as I did it in batch. Not too bad, but it does take sometime. 4-5 hrs if you are patient.
U can. But, in my case, when i install the patches only to the 1.08, which are the only patches that install withouth trouble, the game always gets freeze at one of the first races, specifically on one track the "Brands Hatch". The game freezes completely, to the point where i have to reset whole console via the power button... When i trying to install 1.09 and further, of course separatly, the updating process got stuck every time on intalling one of them. For me the game is unplayable before 1.09, but unable to instal further than 1.09 including 1.09... What a waste, a game that i bought used PS3 console for, and i can't even play it.

I would like to download the new version but it's so hard and bad.. I'm good right now without lag or freeze so for my case I'm staying on the older version. It's weird and scary to read that your game kept freezing but I think If I never upgrade my game nothing like that would happen. HE IS CRAZY JUST MAKE SURE... #1 Clear game data gt6 #2 Make sure clock is set by Internet Time. #3. Make sure game disc auto play is OFF! #4 set auto turn off to 5hr and 5hr. #5 Make sure you are signed in! If download error pops up hit x then x and it will continue where it left off! THE ABOVE IS CRUCIAL OR IT WONT UPDATE GUYS.
Yesterday I tried to install everything normally. I got the infamous "5 minutes left" infinite screen after I loaded the game, but it eventually installed everything after many hours. They maybe fixed the issue somehow? I don't know. Anyway I lost my beloved Senna replay, which is a shame. The fact that you lose some data if you touch the installation file is just ridiculous IMO.

This honestly isn't worth it. Takes way longer than it should. I think someone from Polyphony should physically do this for me, why should I suffer from their mistakes?! Used to love the Gran Turismo series, but now i'm done with this garbage. Not buying another GT anymore, thanks Polyphony! Sad to see my save with over 100+hrs into it get deleted since it's literally un-playable now.
IamMortui 100 hours? Lol I had well over 3 thousand hours on Gt6 before I had to deal with this shit. Eventually fucked up my game and lost everything so don't complain
Hello when i updated the game i had this problem and im very dissapointed because they didnt fix this problem.BUT i am glad to say this method worked for me today is 29.9.2020 you must do this carefully when there was 11 updates left one of them was 10mb so be careful while doing it because somesay you should do every update at once i dont know is this true but i did as what they said about it and somesay you need to eject disc at every update but this is false you dont need to eject disc at every update. And more note from me you can access to thropies and psn but you cant play online i think THEY CLOSED online play. But i suggest you to update the game guys. Because there are so many playable zones includes moon too. And updates include so many new cars. You dont have to do it in a one day you can continue to update the other day. You must be very patience. I believe you can do that! I think theyre not fixing it because they want us to buy new generation but i love the old generation ps3 system is the best generation ever!!

I am successfully running version 1.22 on a CECHL01 80g fat. I had to do them one at a time. This is the 1st bout out of many with GT6’s & PS3’s that I’ve actually won, feels great.
I lost the disc copy, which I bought and played on when the game came out, so I recently bought the digital download of gt6. I downloaded all 21 updates, and am facing the "installation failed" error when I try to open the game. Is there a way to delete the update without deleting all the save data?
It's a strange thing but this happens to me: I update the game in 4 parts or more, I quit the update and proceed to disable internet connections to re-enter, and after that when starting the game, I skip the screen of "installing "and waiting a moment says that the installation lasts about 330 minutes or 212 minutes (several times). Any explanation or help for that problem?

As soon as I restart the game with the first update done "1255mb" that gives me the message that I'm playing without an internet connection and then it tells me directly "the save data loaded comes from a more recent version of the game, please exit and update the game" can you tell me 'help ?

I want you to know that I tried to update the game before the format and it said 900 mb more free space needed when I had so many things installed, but after the format, when my ps3 had nothing installed it said 4000 mb more free space needed.

It works but you need to have a good disc and disc drive. My disc drive was acting up and it did not work the first time.

This method does not work. the bug will happen whether you baby sit it or not. I've done this multiple times with no success. The farthest I got was v1.20 before I got this error. It rediculos a first party product could be this broken....

Thanks bro, I did it and its working! I have downloaded 6 of 21 updates, then disable net connection, started the game, and waited for installation of 6 updates. Then, repeated remain updates, 1 by 1.

my game data utility just shows netflix , i try to start GT6 and it shows the in game install at 800+ minutes then eventually crashes
Try update the 1.06 first before you cancel. Disable the internet, then get in until you're in the main menu. Quit out, enable internet, update once, cancel, disable, do the same. It's just a repeating process as seen in this video.
Just make sure you wipe out the game data and backup your save game first before you do this process so it will be clean. You could also rebuild the database before doing this just in case.
Btw, 1.08 (if that's the update after 1.07) never installs in game. The HDD access indicator always turns off midway through the installation.
My install always fails at 1.07 or 1.08 I haven't been able to get past this
At the time of this comment in March 2021, it worked! I followed every step and managed to update the game fully with no problems. Thank you. It's unfortunate that this issue still exists.

@@timemachine20yearsago73 Nope. I don't even have a PSN account and yet, I was able to update GT6 with an internet connection. I've seen a few people in the comments say they got a game freeze after entering their name or after buying a Honda Fit. What I'd do is set up your name, buy your first car, and do a few races first on v 1.00 before you start updating. Back up your save on a USB in case. I hope this is helpful for you.

I bought GT6 today and updated the game from scratch, took about 3 1/2 hours to update and install though it said 5 minutes remaining for a couple of hours.
I didn't use the method in the video or any other, simply waited for all downloads so I hope people out there are no longer dealing with the install issues.

So I just figured I would share my experience real quick. I went through this entire process several times with my PS3 fat. I followed the instructions to the letter and it did not work past the fifth update. 1.06 It would consistently fail past that point no matter how careful I followed the instructions. In the end, I ended up purchasing a solid-state drive and the digital download copy of the game for $15. This was in addition to the physical copy that I had because I have a suspicion that it was due to slow read speeds from the Blu-ray and possibly the way that this game installs files as you play. Once I allowed the digital download to fully install, I downloaded the first six updates 1.06 and then downloaded each sub sequent update one at a time following instructions until version 1.11. Then I updated in groups from 1.12 to version 1.16. Then I went from 1.17 to 1.22. And to my relief I now have a fully operational game thank God. Not sure if it mattered but I was making sure to clear the cache every time. Just a heads up keep an eye on your HDD indicator light if that ever stops flashing then the installation will fail. Also, all updates were displaying an indication of progress which they were not before I added the ssd. Good luck everyone else!

I purchased a new drive and the Disc works plays loads ! it was worth it best game still in 2019 ....Refuse to buy a PS4 when this is the only game that matters ....

Yes this gets your game working again but it also deletes all you progress and current game data so you have to start from the beginning with no money & not cars

Tried this with no success. After I’m installing the 1st update and disable the internet. The problem is that I can’t enter the GT6 game without internet, it giving me an alert and not loading the game.

U can. But, in my case, when i install the patches only to the 1.08, which are the only patches that install withouth trouble, the game always gets freeze at one of the first races, specifically on one track the "Brands Hatch". The game freezes completely, to the point where i have to reset whole console via the power button... When i trying to install 1.09 and further, of course separatly, the updating process got stuck every time on intalling one of them. For me the game is unplayable before 1.09, but unable to instal further than 1.09 including 1.09... What a waste, a game that i bought used PS3 console for, and i can't even play it.

Yesterday I tried to install everything normally. I got the infamous "5 minutes left" infinite screen after I loaded the game, but it eventually installed everything after many hours. They maybe fixed the issue somehow? I don't know. Anyway I lost my beloved Senna replay, which is a shame. The fact that you lose some data if you touch the installation file is just ridiculous IMO.

This honestly isn't worth it. Takes way longer than it should. I think someone from Polyphony should physically do this for me, why should I suffer from their mistakes?! Used to love the Gran Turismo series, but now i'm done with this garbage. Not buying another GT anymore, thanks Polyphony! Sad to see my save with over 100+hrs into it get deleted since it's literally un-playable now.

Hello when i updated the game i had this problem and im very dissapointed because they didnt fix this problem.BUT i am glad to say this method worked for me today is 29.9.2020 you must do this carefully when there was 11 updates left one of them was 10mb so be careful while doing it because somesay you should do every update at once i dont know is this true but i did as what they said about it and somesay you need to eject disc at every update but this is false you dont need to eject disc at every update. And more note from me you can access to thropies and psn but you cant play online i think THEY CLOSED online play. But i suggest you to update the game guys. Because there are so many playable zones includes moon too. And updates include so many new cars. You dont have to do it in a one day you can continue to update the other day. You must be very patience. I believe you can do that! I think theyre not fixing it because they want us to buy new generation but i love the old generation ps3 system is the best generation ever!!

I am successfully running version 1.22 on a CECHL01 80g fat. I had to do them one at a time. This is the 1st bout out of many with GT6’s & PS3’s that I’ve actually won, feels great.
I lost the disc copy, which I bought and played on when the game came out, so I recently bought the digital download of gt6. I downloaded all 21 updates, and am facing the "installation failed" error when I try to open the game. Is there a way to delete the update without deleting all the save data?

It's a strange thing but this happens to me: I update the game in 4 parts or more, I quit the update and proceed to disable internet connections to re-enter, and after that when starting the game, I skip the screen of "installing "and waiting a moment says that the installation lasts about 330 minutes or 212 minutes (several times). Any explanation or help for that problem?
