As impressive as airpower is, the absolute supernatural horror a single modern naval destroyer would cause in WW2 is far more dramatic. Even on the ground, a single modern MBT, especially at night time, would leave the opponent absolutely filled with terror, not knowing who or what is picking them apart with such ease. This seems surprisingly tame by comparison because at least the bomber crews would have some understanding of the fancy jets zooming past them, the rockets blowing up next to them, and the cannon fire shredding them apart.
@@snizamiI have never thought about that actually..... like imagine 2 MBTs I don't think it matters what flavor either..... Abrams, Leopard, Challenger, or even t-90. Going up against a Panzer division in the middle of the night?! Talk about seal clubbing 😂
@@mattt525Hell, even a T-62 with a modernization package would be immune to all in use anti tank weapons from the front and if it was plastered with ERA, any shaped charge from the sides as well.
@@snizami Yeah, I think the massive radar arrays and VLS system dumping 80 missiles on some of the modern ships would be pretty outrageous. Nuclear subs that can match destroyers for speed and don't need to be at periscope depth to attack and have cruise missiles would be silly too. The F-22 ultimately needs to approach into visual ranges just like other fighters because it can't carry enough missiles to destroy those bomber raids, so it's limited in how WTF it can be. The stealth fighter that needs to enter eyeball range has already sacrificed a major strength - some of its main advantages don't actually matter in these fights. Of course, the problem with all this modern shit going back in time is always 'okay, we fired off a full load of ammunition, now what?'
Beat me to it. I’ve always wondered what would have happened if the black hole hadn’t reappeared, and the Nimitz’s strike force continued on to intercept the Japanese December 7th force.
Just imagine, if it was real, the look on that nearest German pilot's face when he saw those for delta winged planes turning in. HA! Sidewinders probably did more damage as they went for engines.
The first shot from the bombers point of view looking at the Raptors is kinda creepy. Imagine the guys in the bombers and what would go through their minds looking at a Raptor for the first time. Just a rush of "what the F is that..." Then chaos.
The IR guided missile targets the engine. Hit the engine, plane doesn't fly. The radar guided missile is probably hitting the biggest radar target, the main fuselage. Not much to damage there.
I was just thinking the same thing, a solo A10 trucked up with as many missiles it'll carry against the same amount of bombers. Tail gunners would be a problem but it can take it :)
The British don't recognize F-22s, they would be firing AAA at you as much as the German bombers. Even if some of the gunners realized that you were firing on the bombers, not all of them would. And that formation pass over the airfield, it's hard to know how they would have responded to that.
I once chatted with a former B-17 pilot at the 8th Air Force museum in Savannah. He told me what it was like the first time whey say an ME-262. The quote was "What the hell was that?!"
3:11 I find it hilarious how the AMRAAMs weave crazily when launched, as if confused about the targets "yo what are these aircraft you want me to go after"... and the confusion LOLs are reinforced at 3:42 with the AMRAAM that just refuses to go for the giant radar signature and almost purposefully dodges it 😁
That shot of the raptors flying thru the bomber formation is 10/10 Edit: 12:26 2 Raptors basically tailing that shot-to-hell bomber like "come on. Fly. I fuckin dare you. I got 20mm vulcan ammo w ur name on it"
1:37 I always forget just how small WWII payloads were. A single B-2 bomber can carry almost as much payload as all of those bombers (40,000-50,000 lbs). A single B-1 can carry 75,000 lbs.
You should emulate "The Final Countdown", a 1980 science fiction film directed by Don Taylor. The movie follows the USS Nimitz, a modern nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which encounters a mysterious storm that transports it back to December 6, 1941-the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Only this time, you stay and thwart the attack. :) P.S. I typed this all out and saw that several people already beat me to it. Still, this would be so cool.
Since the WWII planes are built like tanks and the AMRAAMs target the fuselage and the AIM-9 targets the engines I think all sidewinders would be the proper loadout for that mission.
So here's the thing. I don't believe that modern day missiles would be as effective against WWII bombers as they would against modern day aircraft for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that modern day aircraft are packed with vital systems that are required for flight so a missile hit (or near hit) has a good chance of disabling the aircraft where as a bomber back then didn't have sophisticated flight controls and avionics. And they are quite large and their vital systems are spread out over a larger area. Another thing to consider is that each missile is essentially not much more than a flack burst sending shrapnel into the bomber... when you consider that most bombers can survive dozens of hits by flack shells it makes sense that the missiles would have a similar effect. To address why it appeared as though the AIM-9's were doing better than the AMRAAMS this would make sense as well. AIM-120's being radar guided would hit center mass dumping most of their effect into the fuselage which would soak up much of the shrapnel, whereas the AIM-9's are heat seekers and would lock onto the engine exhaust and deliver the majority of their damage to the engines. Generating a much greater effect on the target.
“We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets… HOLY CR@P WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!!”
Were they Ju 88 bombers? Imagine a single seat fighter, as big as your bomber, cutting through the sky like that. And it's just casually dropping everything around it.
I'm just imagining how downright terrifying that would be. Seeing 4 aircraft fly across the formation nose like that. Spending a minute or two wondering just what your fate was at that moment. Then all hell breaks loose as bombers start to fall one after another faster than you've ever seen
Try a f 15 ex with max payload. The reason I say that is because the planes can carry something like 10 - 12 missiles . And when you have something like 80 of them that means you have 800 to 1000 missiles.
You should do this but a bigger scale where theres german fighter escorts aswell as some spitfires or Mustangs with you in the raptors or f15ex etc would be cool af likw a modern and WWII american or allie planes intercept a german bombing formation headed for the UK or something
Not so crazy. This is the kind of hypothetical time-travel situation I can appreciate. Now let’s do this idea from that one movie, a full squadron and more of naval f4 phantoms against all planes that took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor
You should do what might have happened in the Movie’The final countdown’ what would an entire carrier air wing do to the Japanese attack force on the morning of December 7, 1941.
That closure problem you mentioned sometimes made itself felt in WW2. The rocket interceptor that the Germans (for some reason) built had the biggest issues, since they were so incredibly fast. Apparently they considered developing a light sensing camera that would automatically firing guns from the top of the plane when incoming light was decreased, so that a pilot could shoot down a bomber just by passing underneath it.

You did the Me 262 vs biplane, why not A-10 vs biplane?
Having done this, you can maybe think of recreating the dogfight from "Final Countdown" between the 2 Zeros and the 2 F14s. :) (Short dogfight. )
So is the dcs world on VR without playing it on PC
“Yah das Yankees in those UFOs!
“Amerikan foo fightzas!”

We NEED TO SEE THIS!!!
Yes, all the brrrrt

The Raptor would've looked inconceivable back then. These guys basically got snuffed out by some UFOs.
Literally the only possible comparable aircraft of the day was the Me-262, and even that looks radically different than the Raptor.
