Thanks! Looks like a great product. Maybe you could do a benchmark test on two Macs, one with this mod and one without just to see what speed loss there is, especially for the "everyday" user - probably not much.
Thanks for the super video! Removing R8911 turns off the GPU by turning off the GPU-VCore Regulator. Hence the one error that ASD gives you. If there is no GPU mounted you could leave R8911 on the board. I remove R8911 with a rather large tip on the soldering iron, and then have a large blob of solder on the iron so that I can melt the solder on both sides of the resistor at the same time. With a bit of luck the resistor gets stuck in the blob on the soldering iron.
The loud clock movement in the background during quite scenes us driving me insane. Yes i am one of the 0.001% of population that get annoyed by repetitive bqckground noises. Sold a car because i couldnt work out where a squeak was coming from. Great video btw. Interesting. No gpu but if you dont need it then lets you keep using the laptop.
Has anyone had any issues loading bootcamp after installing one of these? I just installed a 820-2914 on an (late 2011) A1297 17" and Now when I try to boot into windows it just locks up right at the mac boot selection screen after I click on the bootcamp drive. if anyone could offer some help or point me in the right direction that would be great. :)
Does intel graphics 3000 work in windows (instaled in EFI mode not legacy mode) after this hack or does the screen Still go black after installing the intel drivers
Just now seeing this video. So forgive the late comment! Once this repair/workaround is made would it significantly reduce the resale price of the machine? I would think it would not, but then again, not everyone knows of the defect of the 2011 series MBP.
Hi, at 5:03, where you show the web site, the two pictures are, by the captions underneath, the same device. But they aren't, look at the IC orientation and the text on the board in both pics, even the PCB traces!!!!
Sorry, some of the pictures on the site are of the old version of the Tiresias (that did not have the backlight control). The ones being shipped are the new versions with backlight control.
I think you just upgraded that macbook lol :-D I thought the chip used the i2c to communicate to the main board and play with defaults, but reading your comment shows i was so wrong lol. (i enjoy a guess, but im outside of my understanding :-D ) Laptop pc's often have a pch that can deliver video and a seperate gpu, i bet something similar could be done to some lappys.
I remember few Macbook Pro 15" 2011 with this kind of hardware mod. Unfortunately it didn't solve all issues. Laptop crashed in sleep mode and screen went blank once 4k video was played :(.
Just removing the resistor does not change the machine configuration, it still thinks that there is a dedicated GPU. This method is a permanent fix, no software hacks, or patching drivers in Ubuntu to remove them from OSX (which can break with a software update). it just works.
Hi Defpom thanks for the video. We are both fellow Paul Daniels stream watchers just as an aside. Very fortuitous as I have just been offered a 17" Macbook with a dead GPU about 10 mins ago over her in Australia. It looks like it may have an 820-2914 board in it but I am awaiting the serial number so I can confirm. If it is the kit looks like about $100 AUD so very reasonable price. Just wondering if there are any other fixes (permanent not GPU rehot fixes) that you know of please? Keep up the good work
Hello Friend! help me please, I disabled I do not know how the intel hd graphics 3000 of my MBP and now only AMD is showing a problem, could you tell me what I do to fix this bring back Intel hd graphics?
Interesting solution but it will not work if the Intel GPU is gone. My Late 2011 17 has power but no chime and black screen. Put the heat gun on the Intel GPU and it came back to life.
No, normally all you would do is remove the resistor (R8911), it just happens that I had this computer waiting for me to finish repairing which I had already removed the dead GPU from (which I was going to install a replacement GPU into).
Full instructions are here: www.cmizapper.com/install/tiresias-820-2914.html The GPU can be left or removed. Normally you would leave the GPU but if the GPU has shorts under it you might have to remove it. These shorts can occur if some idiot has reflowed the GPU causing some of the balls to join under the GPU.
@@TheDefpom Hi, as it says on the CMIzapper home page: Video out on the Thunderbolt port is not supported, but all other functions of the Thunderbolt port will work.
I like the Batman theme with the soldering iron. Entertaining and creative.
I have used the one for the 15" and it worked great. Just got 2011 17' in so wanted to see how the 17' is to install. The 15' was fast and simple
Yeah they work well.
Thanks! Looks like a great product. Maybe you could do a benchmark test on two Macs, one with this mod and one without just to see what speed loss there is, especially for the "everyday" user - probably not much.
I can also confirm that this resurrected my early 2011 15" MBP, very happy camper, dank je wel Harald.
Thanks for the super video!

I confirm that I made this repair on my 17" Macbook Pro 2011 and I'm very satisfied. Thanks Harald.

abeleski - that is my wife’s clock, seeing as she is in Europe right now I could “lose” it and she if she remembers when she gets back...
I guess this makes it possible to install a dosdude version of Mojave on 2011 17" MBP?

I am curious, why mess with hardware. I fallow the dosdude1 and disable faulty GPU. Never open the laptop.
That is what I did -fallow dosdude1 and work
dose it matter witch modle of the Tiresias u buy?
Yes
hello brother, where on earth did you find ASD , been hunting for that everywhere and still cant find it :D , great video keep up the good work!
What's the advantage of doing this over removing R8911?

Will this work for 2009 17”?
vi must also remove the AMD GPU from the board befor putting the chip on the board or what
Great work 👍🏾

PS - I subbed and clicked the bell too have a great day
I’m not really aware of anything else of particular problem, the only issues ive come across are gpu, hard drive flex cable, and liquid damage.
@@TheDefpom no I mean are there any other GPU fixes like maybe Dosedude's fix ?

The sleep function continues to work after installing tiresias?
?
Yes that still worked.
hhhhhmmm, I'm thinking of doing this, is it still available?
Is there something like this for the 2010 MBP 15''?
estebanquito356 - not that I’m aware of.
the 2010 MBP15 does not have this issue. it's only a capacitor change for your model.
does the D-gpu have to be removed to make this work?

@@TheDefpom thanx for your reply
is this Tiresias kill GPU and make the thunderbolt will still fuction or not?
No, thunderbolt only works from the dedicated GPU, so disabling it means the thunderbolt/displayport will not work.
thank you for the information@@TheDefpom
@@TheDefpom Hi, as it says on the CMIzapper home page: Video out on the Thunderbolt port is not supported, but all other functions of the Thunderbolt port will work.
TheOneMusicMan - yes, because video out is from the dedicated GPU, which is faulty/disabled.
@@TheDefpom Yes, so it should still works for use with (for example) external Audio sound cards using Thunderbolt.
dosdude is working on a gmux programmer which does the same thing
mua đâu bạn
60 bucks ? you can get the gemux programmer and software for 30
No backlight control on High Sierra
