That cloth on the back of the headboard is an antimacassar which people put on the back of anywhere people’s heads rest. It goes back to the days when men used to grease their hair, saves the furniture from being stained. My dear late Mummy had them on the back of all the chairs at home. We had doilies on all serving plates, coasters in saucers and lace tablecloths on all tables too. My parents, especially Mummy, certainly knew the best, even though we lived in a council house! ☺️

The 1925 style of the hotel is called 'Art Déco'. Art Déco was the name of the 1925 Art Décoratifs Show in Paris. Yes, that mirror wasn’t dirty, it was foxed. Foxing is when the silvering on the back of the mirror glass starts to break down. And I agree, Claridges deserves its reputation.
Tim, did you watch the BBC documentary about the refurbishment of Claridges ?? they added 3 floors on top and 5 below for the spa, virtually all done by hand so no noise to annoy the guests, amazing.
I can attest to that! We stayed several nights over a few years. Had ZERO idea any work underground was going on at all! Saw the work on the top floors, sure. But underground? We had no idea. Every room was quiet as a library.
I love how the posh hotels are close together on youtube as its easy to compare. The is the best of them so far, posh yet comfortable. The room was practical as well as luxurious, the bathroom was amazing!
The duality of this channel is amazing, from a dingy, miserable pontins (probably riddled with bed bugs!) to a luxurious, decadent hotel of dreams, love it haha!
Tim, I love your videos. Do you think you could possibly brush up on antique furniture? Because you’re absolutely killing me with all the snotty comments about this unbelievably gorgeous antique furniture. Most of everything you’ve pointed out is worth more than my whole life!
that sort of the charm of the channel, it's a normal bloke in everything from dingy bedrooms to full on luxury so of course we don't expect a connoisseur. having said that yes that furniture is unbelievable and a random piece is probably worth more than my flat.
I doubt Tim has the time to brush up on antique talk ...maybe accept Tim for his honest and authentic self ...his videos are great because he's not trying to be anything else but himself
I'm 67, was inside the bicycle industry for over 35 years traveling all over the world and have seen my share of exquisite hotels, but this one takes the cake! Incredibly the best hotel I've ever stayed at that rivals Claridge's was in Columbus Ohio and the other was in MontBlanc in northern italy. The attention to detail is incredible, keep it up, I'll be there soon. ( :
I've worked in Claridge's as a contractor and it's insane behind the scenes too and underground etc. I felt incredibly underdressed using the toilets you passed near the furniture boutique but the staff are great nonetheless.
No I don't get a cruise ship or a hospital vibe from the bed. To me it just looks very comfortable. Of course sleeping will not be your number one activity while you're there. Correct? This is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen in my life. I love seeing the things that they give to Kasper! Your child is so beautiful. You two are certainly very lucky.
For those of us not able to afford to stay at Claridges I cannot recommend the Claridges cookbook enough.....which not only informs about the history of this amazing hotel, but details all the recipes they serve. It is awesome and bravo to the Head Chef who came up with the idea.
Dear Tim, I have enjoyed a few of your Luxury hotel videos, but notice you often describe mirrors as being dirty. May I kindly point out that the mirrors are most often antique and the mirrors are therefore slightly cloudy due very often to the silver backing deteriorating over many years giving a slightly cloudy and sometimes speckled appearance. In actual fact many people will ask for a ‘faux’ antiqued appearance to a mirror. I bought a huge Venetian mirror for a bathroom and it was a feature I loved. Best wishes ❤
You two, are very nice couple. It warms my heart to see a young couple, successfully juggling their careers and their marriage and family. Always be excellent to each other. Your little child is adorable.
Also: I live in New England in the US and our winters are so long - I have a sun lamp and it's been incredibly helpful for my mood, you guys should definitely get one. They're very affordable!
Enjoy the videos but some of the commentary so wrong! Dirty mirror in the lobby! It’s not dirty, it’s antique glass! The medallions aren’t medallions, they are Madeleines, a French cake/pastry
I am so happy that someone mentioned this , I felt the same even though I do enjoy Tims videos sometimes he is very ignorant in his observations like ex. big room big bed etc where on earth does he from ?
Fantastic Tim, having watched Gaby’s take on it a few days ago it was great to see what you thought of Claridges. Your videos are always top notch and presented so well, I have no idea how you do it Tim. I thought it was a very beautiful modern place to stay but very very expensive. Thanks for showing us around theses outstanding places 👍🏻😁

So lovely, we went to Claridges to celebrate my parents 80th Birthday's (Same year ). We found the hotel to be very relaxed and welcoming. Staff fantastic, Thankyou for bringing back special memories as both now deceased x

Abby looks so nice, I love how they accommodate Casper so nice. That bathroom is awesome! Thank you for sharing.😊 yes it is their job they should make sure their guests are comfortable and satisfied.
I don’t think any hotel in America can be this impressive with quality and service. There’s a documentary about the hotel and I was totally blown away.
Fun to watch, thanks. I can't get over how Gabby's breakfast had 6 vine tomatoes on it. That's what I'd get at the supermarket to last me a week. And tbh, your chicken dinner the night before didn't look very exceptional. I was expecting more food pizzazz at Claridge's.
Absolutely addicted to watching these vids, love the thorough honest reviews and when Tim and family get to experience these stays together. Such enjoyable content ✌🏼💗
The headboard covers are antimacassars. They're used to keep hair gel/oil/ serum products from staining the headboard. Been around since for ever- used to see them on the back of chairs in Victorian great grannies' drawing rooms.
I’ve just found out regarding the smell of smoke from that room which comes at a £600 fine there are certain tourists from two country’s in particular that just pay the fine . Great to watch, really enjoyed your video your both so natural , thanks
Sadly there is a great deal of truth in that. A lot of Britannia hotels are former grand old establishments. Unfortunately their not being in Mayfair is a major drawback
My first ever comment on here. THIS hotel is worth every penny they charge. First one of your videos that I was immensely impressed with the quality of decor and sparkling cleanliness. Gabby looked so cute yet elegant in her dinner attire! Casper cute as always, and Tim - excellent content always. Never boring. 🥰
Thank you for the great videos. They are very well done and I subbed, but don’t know how your videos appeared in my feed. I love that you review both the worst and the best and in between. They are very informative and objective.
Well another great video. Such a lovely family! Now comparing this hotel over the Savoy it’s miles apart. Goes to show how the staircases can be made to look spectacular. Unlike the Damp at the savoy. Out of sight out of mind attitude? But at £1.600 a night the stairs should look that good. These videos certainly help you choose the correct place to stay and dine. Although all expensive at least you wouldn’t waste money knowing what you receive per hotel. Only possible because of yourselfs doing that on our behalf let’s say. Thanks again for such a quality enjoyable video.!!
Very well done on this one Folks, absolutely fabulous hotel, and what I always think of with these places is the cleaners and the maintenance staff who look after the premises as well as the staff that look after the guest's. Great review and thoroughly enjoyed!
Really enjoyed the review Tim and j thought the hotel was very top notch. It must have been because Tim’s eagle eye didnt find anything amiss. . The pool was a lovely oasis as the lighting was very calming. Yes it is expensive but the quality was evident. The room with balcony was fabulous.
At one point he commented on a stain on a pale coloured couch they were sitting on, but he seemed to,have forgotten about that when he made his summary at the end. Other than that the place appeared immaculate.
I'm kind of torn. I love, love, LOVE Tim doing his honest, down-to-earth reviews of places most of us normally never get to see, like Claridges and the Ritz etc,....BUT I also love it when he stays in the grottiest of hotels and resorts. That said, Tim and Gaby do deserve a bit of luxury after staying in some of Britain's worst hotels.

I think the dirty mirror wasn’t dirty just over a hundred years old 😂 it’s blows the ritz away 👍
That was an amazing programme.. I stumbled across it and was in awe of whoever dreamed up the plans. The level of engineering was out of this world 💖
I can attest to that!
Beautiful Art Deco yet delicately understated opulence. It’s cleverly balanced. Yes it’s money but without vulgarity. I love it
I love it when Tim stays in a hotel in England and finds it immaculately clean in every nook and cranny. It seems quite rare these days.
I love that you check out everything in the hotels everything we are interested in seeing and a breakdown on the prices too!! 👍❤️
@@AngieHarding-k5j 😂😂😂
Miller's Antiques would be a good start.
Gabby is a living doll. Really enjoyed the tour ❤
Everytime my grandfather travelled to london from Italy(1920s) he would stay at Claridges and he absolutely loved the hotel .
I've worked in Claridge's as a contractor and it's insane behind the scenes too and underground etc. I felt incredibly underdressed using the toilets you passed near the furniture boutique but the staff are great nonetheless.
I'm surprised they allowed you to use the toilets.
Testy!
Very much an Art Deco style in the monochrome areas.
You take us to places where most people dare to venture. Amazing, thank you ❤
What the puff does that mean ? It does not make any sense at all.
For those of us not able to afford to stay at Claridges I cannot recommend the Claridges cookbook enough.....which not only informs about the history of this amazing hotel, but details all the recipes they serve. It is awesome and bravo to the Head Chef who came up with the idea.
claridge's is a work of art, unbelievable attention to detail and that view is pure london. fantastic.
Dear Tim,
I have enjoyed a few of your Luxury hotel videos, but notice you often describe mirrors as being dirty.
Yes it's lovely to see..
This has to be the best of the luxury hotels. It’s not falling apart.
Also: I live in New England in the US and our winters are so long - I have a sun lamp and it's been incredibly helpful for my mood, you guys should definitely get one. They're very affordable!
Stayed in Claridges a few times over the years and it remains without doubt one of my favourite London hotels.
Enjoy the videos but some of the commentary so wrong! Dirty mirror in the lobby! It’s not dirty, it’s antique glass! The medallions aren’t medallions, they are Madeleines, a French cake/pastry
@emmasayer he's from Norfolk, clueless with webbed feet and removes the lovely skin from his chicken 🐔🍗 !! 🙈
I am so happy that someone mentioned this , I felt the same even though I do enjoy Tims videos sometimes he is very ignorant in his observations like ex. big room big bed etc where on earth does he from ?
He corrected himself.
And the 'plants' are called flowers. Duh.
When he removed the skin! Chef died inside.
Thank you for taking me to Claridges, which I can only dream about!
🙂
myson treated my daughter and me to afternoon tea at claridges to celibrate her birthday the food was lovely and the waiters we vey nice.
I have had lunch there. It was superb.
only two months sallary for me :-D in cheapest room
Art deco decor. Gorgeous accommodations. ❤ Perfection
I think this is the prettiest place you have stayed in yet . Such a handsome couple. Your wife looked stunning when you went out for dinner. An amazing place to stay. Thank you for sharing
So lovely, we went to Claridges to celebrate my parents 80th Birthday's (Same year ). We found the hotel to be very relaxed and welcoming. Staff fantastic, Thankyou for bringing back special memories as both now deceased x
I was getting bad anxiety when you guys were in the wine cellar. all it takes is a brush of the elbow and good night wine ! Fantastic upload as usual.
and the chilean foot grape crushing peasants would be furious.
Wow! I liked the Savoy Tim but I think the Claridge has become my new favorite. From the lobby, elevators (lifts) hallways to the rooms just so beautiful!
The claridge has nothing shocking except it's incredible class and service that few can match
Great Tim , to see Claridges, what a beautiful place to stay, not the price though, thank see you in your next vlog, bye take care xxx😊
The Claridges looks amazing one of the nicest looking inside. I can dream xx. Thank you for showing us around. Xx
Me too. Maybe one day my dream will come true 😊
Our pleasure!
The some of the decor reminds you of a cruise ship, as the Art Deco style was very influenced by cruise ship design.
Love you guys and Casper is just precious! Glad you guys had some time together!!! Loved the vid!!! Thank you so much
Fun to watch, thanks. I can't get over how Gabby's breakfast had 6 vine tomatoes on it. That's what I'd get at the supermarket to last me a week. And tbh, your chicken dinner the night before didn't look very exceptional. I was expecting more food pizzazz at Claridge's.
That is what’s known as ‘a proper hotel’. Stunning.
Sees the Madeleine’s on the table - “Oooh Complimentary medallions” 😂😂
😂❤
yes and "big macs"
Mange tout, Rodney
@@janicehopwood9528
LOL 😆 🤣 😂 For the price of the room, they should get 2 dozen free Madeleines.
Literally made me howl 🤣
Absolutely addicted to watching these vids, love the thorough honest reviews and when Tim and family get to experience these stays together. Such enjoyable content
✌🏼💗
Of course. I makes you feel all comfy and snuggly.....
I totally agree ...and it's nice to see such a positive comment...
Wow the details is incredible stunning hotel
The headboard covers are antimacassars. They're used to keep hair gel/oil/ serum products from staining the headboard. Been around since for ever- used to see them on the back of chairs in Victorian great grannies' drawing rooms.
I’ve just found out regarding the smell of smoke from that room which comes at a £600 fine there are certain tourists from two country’s in particular that just pay the fine . Great to watch, really enjoyed your video your both so natural , thanks
A £600 fine for smoking isn't going to bother anyone who is paying £900+ per night for an hotel room.
@@susi-emilyit’s about respect, so the rich can be common as muck
Well… the smoking fine obviously isn’t nearly enough as a deterrent…
Tim's quote of the day "It's a bit like Britannia Hotels, but in better nick" 🤣
Sadly there is a great deal of truth in that. A lot of Britannia hotels are former grand old establishments. Unfortunately their not being in Mayfair is a major drawback
You couldn’t make it up 😂😂
Kinda like saying "This Michelin Chef's Beef Wellington is a bit like McDonald's, but tastes better."
I say this at every hotel I stay in
Tim and Gaby dressed like they were in a Britannia Hotel 🤣
My first ever comment on here. THIS hotel is worth every penny they charge. First one of your videos that I was immensely impressed with the quality of decor and sparkling cleanliness. Gabby looked so cute yet elegant in her dinner attire! Casper cute as always, and Tim - excellent content always. Never boring. 🥰
Thank you for the great videos. They are very well done and I subbed, but don’t know how your videos appeared in my feed. I love that you review both the worst and the best and in between. They are very informative and objective.
Your camera is very stable and clear. Love the details.
Really beautiful room and thoughtful Neil’s yard remedy’s for Casper. Love that 🩵
You get the cruise ship vibe because all the corners are rounded. On a boat it would easy to impale yourself on a right-angle in rough seas.
Very well done on this one Folks, absolutely fabulous hotel, and what I always think of with these places is the cleaners and the maintenance staff who look after the premises as well as the staff that look after the guest's. Great review and thoroughly enjoyed!
Looks very nice, mum always said if she won the lottery she would have loved to stay there.Never worth what they charge though.
Thankyou for the video
I have just viewed the Royal Suite on line. WOW is all I can say. It's even got a grand piano in it !
Goodness knows how much that would be.
I love the style of this hotel. It looks vintage but at the same time modern and minimalistic. love it
I stayed at Claridge’s 15 years ago on a 5 night deal . I could not afford it now 😅. It was sensational but certainly nowhere near the best I’ve stayed in by far ! I’m glad you enjoyed your time there ✌️🙏
That shower is hugey-impressive. I love that bed with those swtiches. This is probably my favourite hotel in London which you've stayed-in regarding luxury. That red wine is an excellent mixed-grape variety from Italy.
That "lift" is truly amazing! Loved it. You two are so much fun. Thank you for making this video. It's really nice to see what these ritzy places are like, knowing that I'll probably never be in one! I wondered how you liked the shower or the tub. I remember one video you did where the tub took forever to drain!!! I like how you describe everything. Can't wait to see your next video!
When I stayed at Claridges the lift was operated by a gentleman from inside the lift
Good to see you & Gaby stay at Claridge's that looked an amazing hotel very nice indeed and you both looking very smart too , great review as always Tim 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
I have to say that I never watch a video all the way through, but this time, I did. Well done and I love your relaxed and informal approach. What a sweet thing too to tell your wife how elegant she looks and to think of renewing your vows in the ball room.
I was lucky enough to be treated to lunch at Claridges years ago, I still remember how beautiful the building is and that it was the best food I have ever tasted. Thanks for posting this, it brought back a lovely memory.
Amazing, what an experience. You all seemed to enjoy yourselves. Thanks for the vlog xx
Thanks for this video Tim! Jsut finished packing for my own holiday, sat down to relax for the evening before leaving later tonight and your section at the spa reminded me I'd forgotten to pack my swimwear!
You've potentially saved my holiday :D
Have fun!
The center piece in breakfast room was a Chihuly. Just beautiful.
Of all the hotels you showed us, the Claridge was beyond fantastic, it was the one I would prefer to stay in.
I'm addicted to your tours wow I do love claridges especially what a great way to show us around very interesting tim 🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful video..one of my favorite hotels you have stayed in!As always Gabby looked beautiful! I'm from America..I love the tradition of afternoon tea in the UK.You were talking about how some people have a hard time with the dark gloomy days..I really feel bad for them. But for me I like it!! I would fit right in with the UK weather..take care❤❤
After watching the whole vlog I understand why you said you were shocked. It is an extremely nice hotel, happy you showed everything. I lived around the corner on N. Audley street, 5 bedroom flat, top 3 floors with 4 other U.S. Navy women in 1977. Could see Selfridges from the windows, I loved every minute of living there. I just subscribed.
Would be interested to know how much you girls paid for said flat?
Thanks Tim and Gabby and Caspar. Love your videos.
This hotel is absolutely stunning….. my new favourite… the right mixture of modern, classic and history!
