You can trim for length! I had been looking for that. It's at about 6:33 if you want to see that folks. Thanks for this video Justin - it sheds a lot of light on the interface.
Excellent video! Good shortcut I found looking through the readme, if you send any midi message, then in Super8 do Ctrl+right click on any particular button, it will assign that button to the last midi message that the track recevied! much quicker than the scrolling you were doing. other than that this taught me a ton, thanks!!!
Yep that's an ancient Thinkpad X60 running Debian. Sounds like I should do a video showing the hardware I use for this setup, will do! Edit: or wait I already go into it a little bit, probably enough?
@@deadbeefThanks for the reply. That's great. I'd love to see your Linux setup running Reaper for sure or just an office tour of Reaper Devs in general if possible, like what computers you guys are running, what geara you are using for recording etc etc.
This is great Justin. I love super8, and I really want it to be the answer for my live looping needs, the only difficulty I'm having is that I would LOVE the play/rec selected to NOT stop playback after a third press of the controller. This would allow you to overdub onto a single reaper slot without having the playback stop and erase the stuff in the slot etc. am I missing something?
It would be pretty easy to tweak the script to do that. When I want to overdub usually I'll use one of the record buttons (or CC assignments) directly. It's far more common that I will want to stop/re-record with my foot controller than to overdub...
Helpful video, thanks! Got the foot switch working and midi control set up to switch between loop slots using Touch OSC and an old Kindle Fire tablet. Managed to follow others' approach to getting sound out, but I'm not a Reaper routing expert, so while I can follow the instructions, I don't always understand the why of things. With that in mind, a couple of questions: 1. Can somebody explain the monitor track further? I've watched 5-6 videos about Super 8, and each one says there's a monitor stream on channel 9, but "I don't use it." What's a use case where it would be useful to somebody? Is it just a raw mono feed of all recorded loops at the volume at which they were recorded? Or is there more to it than that? 2. Is it possible to bind latch mode to a foot switch or midi controller? If so, how?
hello! i love super 8 and i've been using it a lot, with my whole studio running through it as a stereo 4-track looper. i have been working on a script to set super8's "add to project" feature up so when i hit a footpedal button, it clears out all items from previous exports and starts the transport in sync with the looper. i'm not a coder, but i think i see that all the export loop code is at the end, and i was wondering if there's a way i can quickly alter the code so that it doesn't export the loops (i just want to record to reaper later as a performance), goes to the beginning of the project, sets the tempo, and then starts the project playing in sync. i've got it working with a convoluted script but i'm sure it would work better in the super8 code. the goal is for me to play into the looper to set the tempo/time signature and then hit the button and have all my synths and effects in time. anyway, happy new year and thanks for reaper and super8!
Hi Justin! Many thanks for your tutorial. I'm playing live a doublebass solo. Reaper + super 8 looper + midi foot switch controler + multi out soundcard It works really great !!! I play live and sync off. With that i can freely choose the tempo and the lenght of my loops accordind to my mood. But is there a way to have loops playing together with different lenght ? Cheers !
Awesome! You can now set some channels to be a subdivided length of the total length, but it has to be a whole-number fraction (Super8 doesn’t support completely independent desynced loops, yet)
Hey Justin, is there any way to pause the super8 looper to have an interlude that's not looped at all (I'm using it in sync off mode)? I've been having trouble trying to figure that out even though it seems like a really simple thing.
as long as none of the loops are playing, the looper itself will not be looping at all. if you want to have, for example, an instrument that you have looping also do an interlude, I guess one way would be to have two routes of the same instrument, one that goes to super8 and then to the output, while another one just goes to an output. when you want your interlude to happen, just turn off all of your super 8 tracks and you'll be able to play away. if you're recording, I would HIGHLY recommend having sync on, even with your interlude, and just try to have it link up with a beat. if not, it doesnt really matter unless you want the metronome.
@@deadbeef Yes that is. Thank you very much for your anwers. Super 8 has a such a big potential. You're a great master. I want to make looping with a miniLAb3 midi controller that I recently got. But I would love have your equiment to make all those things, what is the model of your interface please?

Unbelievably advanced tutorial, now I see why you have been spending so much time on this lol, it’s a beast thank you 🙏🏽

Thanks for Reaper…🙏

Set up: Audio Interface/controller Zoom R24, Think pad X60T, and the Line 6 FBV Express MK II
idk why but for me only output 1 and 2 ever had audio, couldnt get this to work sadly, it seems so cool ._.
Thanks, Justin.

Some people do this in Abelton live but it is a paid DAW and the learning curve is, well you know.
REAPER is also paid. Just reasonably priced :)
@@IDDQDSound I am trying to set this up to duplicate my Roland TD-8 drum module which does this in an even more complicated way.

How did you set the plugin Super8Looping in a better size? 1:20
You can float the window by doubleclicking the item in the chain. If that’s that you meant?
