    In the Byzantine Catholic tradition, we give her the title of St. Mary Magdalene, The Equal to the Apostles. She’s honored twice throughout the liturgical calendar.

    As I learn more about the women of Old and New Testament, I am amazed at how many powerful and chosen women that are referenced. I wonder how many of today's secular feminists would be surprised if they took the time to study this. I love how you started this by noting that Mary M was the second most referenced woman new testament.

      Wendy - You are to hate everything that God hates. Every biblical leader stood up against evil and many even lost their lives for speaking against it. There is a reason Jesus says true believers will be hated and persecuted. If you desire to live a godly life you will be persecuted and there is no way around it.

      @robertstephenson6806 You read it in a His-Story Book?
      What’s the official explanation for the war in Iraq? Weapons of mass destruction? The Solomon Building collapsing from a few office fires, within its own footprint, without any resistance? And that only happened a couple of decades ago. The victors write the history.

    • @theredboneking
      @theredboneking ปีที่แล้ว

      @robertstephenson6806 My response to Wendy had nothing to do with Mary being the mother of God. My response to you was about you saying that Christian’s have had wars from the 4th century onward. Was the Iraq - Iran war about Religion? Or was it the #1 weapons exporter (USA) getting rich from Oil wealthy Iran and the #2 weapons exporter getting rich from oil wealthy Iraq?

    • @theredboneking
      @theredboneking ปีที่แล้ว

      @robertstephenson6806 My point is……History is hardly ever truthful. Most wars have underlining agendas and seldom are caused by religion.

    I remember when that Da Vinci Code movie came out. At that time, there was a classic rock station I used to listen to as I drove into work and somehow the conversation shifted to that film. The board lit up with all kinds of people calling in to share their point of view but the most disturbing aspect was the vast majority of the callers believed it was based on a factual book. The DJ kept reminding them the book was a piece of fiction but then callers started accusing him of being a papist and Catholic apologist. That went on for a bit until he finally admitted he was an atheist and started asking these callers to cite another source backing up the claim that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a secret love child. Most of them, when challenged, admitted they had never read the book let alone any other credible literature on the subject. If I'm not mistaken, I think the history channel may have even produced some sort of fiction along those lines, in between their ancient alien conspiracy stuff and their hard hitting investigative work on Nostradamus's uncanny ability to predict events, after they occur of course.
    It just goes to show how far we have drifted as a society. I caught a piece of some documentary on "The Historical Jesus" that basically painted him as a bit of a nut the rest of his family was ashamed of. This is why we need strong church leaders and why we as followers need to do a better job testifying to the truth. Satan loves a passive Church that will let him run amok and spread his own version of the truth. Did God really say? He's been running that scam for thousands of years because it works. Anyway, thank you for this video. The world needs more truth bombs.

    When the Da Vinci code came claiming Jesus and Mary Magdalene we’re married, one person pointed out that we don’t even know how old Mary Magdalene was. She could have been a 65 year old widow. People always wanted to romanticize their relationship though. So the recreation of her as a woman in her 50’s or 60’s makes perfect sense to me. If she had money she likely was a widow and an older woman. A younger widow would likely have remarried and had children.

    Its okay to discuss Mary Magdalene in terms of the fallen woman. The town of Magdala was known for its multitude of brothels, and Mary from Bethany was a high-priced escort. She turned herself around and all of the money she made went to support Christ in his ministry.
    After Christ's crucifixion, she confronted a Roman emperor, Emperor Tiberius, on the conduct and inaction of Governor Pontius Pilate which led to the crime of Deicide. This woman was no shrinking violet and she cared about what was right and just, such was the courage and grace given to her by God, no matter her previous profession.
    The importance of the truth of Saint Mary Magdalene cannot and should not ever be understated, hers is the proof that no matter what demons lurk in our respective pasts, salvation is attainable through God's grace - full stop. Your past can be forgiven and you can be a new person, unhindered and unburdened by whatever misdeeds you may have committed once upon a time.
    🙏 She's my patron saint and I'm proud of her.

    I am curious about learning more about St. Mary of Bethany after Ryan mentioned that it was this Mary who was more likely caught in sexual sin (if I heard him correctly.) I guess this proposed episode could also include St. Lazarus of Bethany and St. Martha of Bethany since Scripture mentions very little about them aside from the raising of St. Lazarus and the various house dinners given for Jesus and His Apostles.

    Hi, thank you for the show 👍
    May I humbly ask for a show about the origins of the concept/dogma of the Holy Trinity?
    Background:
    I had a debate with muslims about faith and very quickly I came to realize that in Islam the idea of the Holy Trinity as well as the idea of forgiveness through sacrife were major points of disagreement between us. I had not many arguments since they regarded the Gospel as corrupted and said that in the Quran it explicitely reads, that Jesus said that he is not God. We departed peacefully but still I wonder if I couldn't have had more arguments in favor of the fact, that the "concept" of the Holy Trinity was not invented by the church :/... I am catholic by the way.
    Again, thank very much for your show 🏅♥️👌

    "The traditional uncertainty of the Latin Church about the identity of Mary - the Magdalene to whom Christ appeared after his resurrection, the sister of Martha, the sinner whose sins the Lord had forgiven - which resulted in the inclusion of Martha alone on 29 July in the Roman Calendar, has been resolved in recent studies and times, as attested by the current Roman Martyrology, which also commemorates Mary and Lazarus on that day. Moreover, in some particular calendars the three siblings are already celebrated together. Therefore, the Supreme Pontiff... has decreed that 29 July be designated in the General Roman Calendar as the Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus" (Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, 26 January 2021)

    @The Catholic Talk Show, please cover the Fourth Commandment. I have five children and 13 grandchildren. I am an unmarried, divorced and annulled Catholic.
    Some of our children do not have a relationship with their father. He is a grandiose narcissist and abused our eldest girl who is 54. He mercilessly lied and subjected the boys to put-downs, verbal and physical abuse. A couple of our boys want to know how to honor their father but do not want him around their children. Their father doesn't care to be with them unless it is on his terms.
    I've told them that it is dangerous to have him in their lives but don't speak against him. Realize he isn't capable of real love but if they want to see him, accomplish it on their terms. They need to love him, and forgive him but they do not have to subject themselves nor their children to his abuse. Please help me help them understand that commandment.
    God bless you all.

    I chose her as my patron saint when I got confirmed. Honestly I just loved her name 😂
    But there was something else that made me really want her as a patron saint. I liked that she was very very close to Jesus as a woman minus Mother Mary of course. She was taught by him directly and although “supposedly” a whore she was loved and forgiven. I liked that regardless of her shortcoming she lived her life to serve the one she loved and was there thru thick and thin. Her bravery shown thru her actions. To my eyes she was very much a warrior.
    She was dope. Later I learned that she was “supposedly” Jesus wife which I thought of as hilarious because on what was this based on? Because Jesus loved her? Ummmm yeah, that’s like his whole thing. 😂😂
    But I didn’t know my girl was rolling in dough 💰that makes me like her more, she was a boss too? She held a high position due to her loyalty and honestly that’s awesome. Every woman should aspire to love, serve, and be known for being herself.

    Love the show and Mary of Magdala is one of my favorite saints, aptly titled, “Apostle to the Apostles”. You might consider reading the history of this beautiful saint through the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich. Bl Emmerich states that Mary of Magdala was a sister to Lazarus, Mary, and Martha (and there was another sister (also named Mary, I believe) who had some sort of mental disability). Their family was indeed wealthy and financially supported Jesus and His disciples. Mary of Magdala herself lived in luxury and supposedly was “promiscuous” - her repentance was connected more with her life of sin. She also anointed Christ’s feet with spikenard with her hair as related by Bl. Emmerich. Her book is very revelatory and discusses a lot of Christ’s public ministry. I would so love to see Mel Gibson do a follow-on movie of Mary’s life!

      Many Catholic scholars also believe that Mary Magdalen and Mary the sister of Lazarus & Martha are the same woman. I tend to agree.

      There was some popular confusion of those two in the Middle Ages, linked to some creative liberties taken in the homilies dating back to Pope Gregory the Great from what I understand, but it has always been generally understood that they are two seperate women. Mary of Bethany is the sister of Lazarus and Martha. don't know why every first century Jew felt the need to call their daughters Mary, lol.
      - The Virgin Mary
      - Mary Magdalene
      - Mary of Bethany
      - Mary of Clopas/Jacob

    Even in the liturgy of the Roman Rite before Vatican II, the feast of Mary Magdalene (July 22) was accorded an honor befitting her status as Apostle to the Apostles - from the promulgation of the Missale Romanum in 1570 until the reforms of Pius XII in 1955, the Creed was said for the Mass of her feast regardless of the weekday, just as was the case for all the feasts of the Apostles.
    This despite her feast being of a slightly lower rank - in the old system of Simple, Semidouble, and four grades of Double, Mary Magdalene’s feast held the rank of a plain Double, while most of the Apostles’ feasts were Double 2nd Class (that of Sts Peter and Paul was Double 1st Class). When St John XXIII revised the liturgical ranking system entirely, the Apostles all had 2nd Class feasts (Sts Peter and Paul, once again, were 1st Class), while Mary Magdalene’s was 3rd Class.

    Reading the books of the New Testament, we possibly asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
    The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.

      Correct! The Catholic Church calls Mary “the apostle to the apostles” because she was among the first to bring news of Jesus’ resurrection to the apostles. (John 20:18) But this doesn’t make her an apostle and NOWHERE in the Scriptures is she called such. (Luke 6:12-16) It’s very dangerous to add to the inspired Scriptures!
      The Bible was completed near the end of the first century C.E. Yet, it wasn’t until the sixth century that church authorities took it upon themselves to elevate Mary Magdalene to a higher status! In writings from the second and third centuries-which are not part of the Bible canon-some of Jesus’ apostles are described as being jealous of Mary. Such fabricated stories have no basis in the Scriptures.

    • @X.F.P.
      @X.F.P. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sunnyjohnson992 Ooooh, that's why. That makes sense. She still wasn't an apostle though, so it should be: "the disciple to the apostles" instead, but I suppose I can see why they called her that now.

    In the first century, a rabbi which Jesus was, had to be married to teach in the temple. Also, the only women who could anoint the body after death were members of the family, which she was. He appeared to her first after the resurrection.I have no doubt that she was his closest friend and partner despite what the Roman church has taught regarding her. And she was definitely not a whore, but a rich woman who supported Jesus. Historians who take a historical approach to Jesus, Jewish and Roman history of the time are discovering that what we’ve been taught by the church isn’t necessarily the way it was.

    Traditional teaching is that Mary Magdalene was the woman caught in adultery! And there is in fact good evidence to support it. Why do so many people feel the need to deny this. It brings even greater glory to God that he can turn such s dinner into one of the greatest and most honored saints. How great is the hope she brings to sinners who felt unworthy of seeking God's love. You should have researched this topic better, and ask yourselves why you are so attached to the idea that a sinful woman who repented could be the one given the role of proclaimming that "he is risen".

    If she has a daughter from Jesus, I have no problems with this. She was not Jesus official wife like many believe. As Rabbi he had the right to be married, but he would not do this knowing about his early death. A "wild marriage"? Why not like the Samaritan woman, who had 5 men before the last "man", married in heart with. Jesus did not judge this woman, but promised her the water of eternal life. Jesus was the king of kings and is married to millions of nuns,too, so why should not happened something between him and Mary Magdalene? He is not only the best example for people, who do not marry because of engagement for the kingdom of God, he would be the best example for married people,too, then, either official or not (marriage in heart is also valid for God, especially if the government does not support marriage and family or the people around Romeo and Juliet try to prevent their love. To prevent love is sin. Love is never a sin, even if the pairs cannot marry officially.
