Using Remote play both on Xbox and PlaySation to stream to my PC (via Local Area Network) and play that way, i never had big issues. I even stream while playing through remote play. Great video as always.
Remote Play, when it works, is great for slower paced games like turn based rpgs or visual novels. The problem starts to be when the latency even on local connections starts to impact the experience. It is almost unplayable outside the local network unless you are on amazing internet. I’ve also had the connection be really poor even on a local connection where every 5 seconds the video would drop 10 or so frames but the sound kept going. Makes everything unplayable
@@GrantYeggehey question here, i have 135 Mbps download and upload, going through an ethernet cable (both ps5 and laptop) playing on remote play is doable until like 10/20 minutes in and then the delay starts, its about half a second to sometimes more then a second… any idea how to fix this?
I’m a truck driver who misses their console gaming. Thank you for finally giving some kind of verdict if how it would most likely go for me with one of these if my console is in UT and I’m in TX.
Slay the spire or other games similar are really good on remote play since they're turn based card games. You don't need any precise reaction or anything, you just pick the cards you want to play and wait
the ps play app is actually really good. i've never had a problem using it even when using mobile data, i wish the ps backbone was available for android it would make remote play so much better
I think the remote play is probably more intended for when you're home and don't have access to the TV. Or when you're traveling and have a good WIFI connection. I love when I'm into a game on my switch, and even if my wife wants to watch something on TV, I just switch to portable mode. I haven't done this yet for my PS5 games but seems like I could.
This is exactly what I use it for and it’s perfect for that (so long as the game isn’t multiplayer because then I just get annoyed if I die and blame the milisecond lag haha) but yeah, I’ve said for weeks now that if my housemates wants to use the TV, even if I’m using it, that’s fine because I can just switch to my tablet and keep playing like a switch. Totes agree with you Keif
If your are playing at your house you can cheese the remote play to let you use a controller directly connected to the PlayStation by using a second account.
The same thing but with a PC is a whole different story, I've been using apps like Parsec or Moonlight and I just can't stop playing my games like this. Sharing my same progress wherever I go just as my settings and info is brilliant. I've never experienced major connection issues outside it was all a smooth great experience and I wished more people actually where able to experience and appreciate remote gaming like I do to this very day!
I quite like remote play for traveling. I often drive to my parents or on weekend trips with my motorcycle and then obviously don't want to take the big baby with me, but I'll always take my laptop anyway and then I just need the controller to be able to play. It obviously depends on the connection speed (my home network is good, WLAN at my parents is sometimes dicey) and I wouldn't want to play any super fast paced games on it, but for a lot of other games, where the occassional short dip in framerate isn't a problem (puzzlers, sims, turn-based, etc) , it's a really solid way to play while away from home.
I’ve actually had a great experience with ps remote play from the ps5 with both Wi-Fi and data streaming, I live in south Florida using 5g it’s actually really great, better than I was expecting it to be.
I love my backbone. Though - due to some minor latency, I generally use my backbone for games that don’t require too much timing. So, I use it for visual novels, some action games (got the platinum on Cult of the lamb all on the backbone). Button inputs feel almost precise with my home network connection. If I were to use my a Bluetooth controller, I notice a lot more latency, so I just use the backbone, since it’s direct Input as opposed to Bluetooth (so it helps with diminishing input lag with it already being streamed)
Recently found your channel and loving the PS content! I'm a big skeptic on remote play, and even with AX Wi-Fi it's just not quick enough for me at home. Also, on a 1000/50 internet connection I still haven't had luck with streaming it out of the home with low enough latency to be playable. But one good use I've found is with an Android TV box hooked up to the bedroom TV. It's all wired up with ethernet so I can stream my PS5 games to another room from the console. It works pretty well.
Gonna be real, as someone who ends up in the hospital a lot this has been a life saver for me. I have a switch that I bring with me because hospital internet is sometimes a no go, but when I can my PlayStation on remote play is the best

I have been using remote play lately with MW2 and Ragnarok. My PS5 is in the bedroom and the wife doesn’t like it when I play into the wee hours at night when she’s trying to sleep. So far, 10+ with the iPad Pro and a separate Dual Sense controller. I really can’t tell the difference between playing natively or remotely as long as I’m next to the router. I just installed Chiaki on my Steam Deck and I think it will be my go to setup going forward. Love the content. Keep it going bro.
I hate game streaming too, but recently I've been working a lot away from home and I've been remote playing my PS4 on my vita. And it works surprisingly well.
To make sure it's clear though Cloud streaming and streaming from your console aren't necessarily the same thing. And depending on your situation/location your console is more likely closer to you than a server running for cloud content.
@@mustang750r ya I agree, I will never ever try ps now or anything related game streaming. Strictly cloud gaming. Game streaming just seems stupid and a waste of money, also you need lightning internet for it to work well, which I don't have.
Awesome experiment for a video. I did want to put my 2 cents in that while I don't use it much there have been times where using remote play on PC has been awesome. When the living room TV is being used or if I'm wanting to hang out in Discord it's been a playable experience. I've even streamed it to my friends in Discord and it went fairly smooth. It's not a solution that'll beat just directly playing without stream services but I'm thankful to have it if I ever need the option.
Yes I played on an iPad pro before in my house in another room and for the most part it worked fine...but latency really kicked in in key moments of the game that I was playing making it unfun. I was just going to suggest the application. I have been playing on my breaks and lunchtime at work, and it's been working great. Best part, I had credit in my google opinions app, so I basically got the app for free.
@@AhmazinSKM Big this. Give Google Opinion Rewards a month or three (not that long), and you can get this virtually free. I used to use PS4 remote play a lot a few years ago. While the experience isn’t great, I feel you just need to temper your expectations with it. My partner was at university at the time in a different city and I’d travel down every weekend to see her. She also worked over the weekends so while she was at work I’d chill on remote play on her iMac. While the experience wasn’t perfect, it was most certainly better than not having the option at all.
Loved this video. Have surprisingly found myself pretty hooked on the remote play feature recently. It’s obviously not perfect but I wake up early and love getting play time in before work sometimes. It’s good cause I can just pause and come back to finish the level during my lunch break or down time 😂 Kinda cool and gimmicky but fun nonetheless. Where I play I have a strong 5G connection and pretty ideal conditions so as I said, It’s not perfect, but I’m excited to see where it goes in future, and even if it does completely crash and burn, I had the fun while it lasted!!
Your upload speed to outside your network was certainly holding you back. Did you mention if your Playstation was connected via ethernet or wireless because wire would help with latency. You were likely getting well over 300 upload and download while inside your home network because your app and PlayStation were connected directly inside the network and using the routers rated network speed which is different then the network speed the ISP provides.
This video demonstrates that most people don't understand how their home network makes or breaks game streaming. He spent a week "testing" it with pretty limited understanding. I have fiber internet at home and my ps5 is wired. In home streaming is flawless and out of home is almost always really good. Currently playing ffxvi almost entirely remote either via steamdeck/chiaki or via my galaxy z fold 4 on ps remote play when away from home
Looks like your friend liked using the backbone. I like how it can support not just PS games, but steam as well. It’s between that and the portal for me and I’m leaning towards the backbone. Good vid, thanks!
I find it nice when the kids are using the TV I can continue playing. It helps to have the PS5 wired to the router and I play on a full size Android tablet.
I just think at this point in time where internet connection still is not reliable to play video games, it's more practical for Sony to make a mobile device like Steamdeck that can play PS4 and PS5 games directly (albeit at lower resolutions or frame rates perhaps) from installation. But Sony obviously doesn't care about that even though it can bring them opportunities to sell more digital games. Not a smart move in my opinion.
Just wanna say thank you for your honest review for someone like myself wanting to try remote play but not waste my time on trying to like it or make it comfortable
I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, never been interested in remote play at all, but its nice to know its an option if I ever feel like trying it out.
i have a question regarding the Backbone, what happens to the touch pad in this case? plenty of games use the touchpad as a button at the very least and as a touchpad proper at most
I wonder why was your cellular connection so poor. I tried playing Control on cellular connection in Europe and it was quite decent experience with good resolution and not much input lag.
I use Remote Play pretty often on my PC. With a decent router it your internet plan won't affect your Remote Play experience when both your PlayStation and the device you're playing on are on a decent connection. Only downside is that, for whatever reason, FPS in Remote Play is limited to around 30 FPS when your device is connected via LAN.
I'm getting myself a Steam Deck pretty soon. I'm going to try Xbox Cloud Streaming on it. See if it is a good enough experience to play on a regular basis.
Steam Deck gameplay on Xbox Cloud Streaming is alright, if not a little slow depending on where you are connected to. When I played it at my university, the connection was pretty stable with some minor hiccups like the quality dropping. But it is still playable, depending on which genre of game you are playing.
Something else you should be aware of and maybe try is that you can Screen Share your phone to a TV while playing so you can get full size image. I didn’t expect it to work, but it does.
Great video! I've found remote play inside my house very useful when people (my kid, gf, mother in law) are using the living room TV. I can just connect from my laptop or phone and let them watch their stuff. 😁 Did it a lot with my PS4 + Vita. It worked and keeps working amazing for me!
I upgraded to mesh wi-fi with 3 routers. Since then my remote play in and around the house has been much smoother. And due to adulting, I find myself using my Vita or Backbone (bought the Xbox version +$50 worth of extras) for a wide variety of games for short sessions before bed.
My Xbox and game pass in combination with a Kishi is such a stable experience for me personally on 5G. Reducing latency by having your controller connected through usb-c is such a huge factor compared to connecting through Bluetooth connection.
I have no other choice but using remote play for PS5. I can't hold the DualSense at all because of a disability so I use Mouse and keyboard with an adapter that emulates PS4 controller. Only problem is PS4 controller does not work with PS5 games and the adapters that exist have not been able to emulate the DualSense but the PS4 controller works if you play through Remote Play. So basically I plug the adapter into my PC and open Remote Play with the lowest graphic settings and minimize it and change the input on my monitor to the PS5 input. So I'm still looking at the 4K Quality resolution while playing but the controller input is going through Remote play. It works decent for me because I have a good Internet connection and both the PS5 and PC have a wired connection. I don't really notice any input lag when I play looking off the original display. Now I don't play any competitive games on PS5 so that might make a difference for that.
My tv broke a month ago and my wife won’t let us replace it because we are ‘saving money’. Tried remote play with this exact ps5 dual sense phone clip and my IPhone 12. Shitty experience. I don’t look forward to weekends anymore. Very sad.
My job is doing deliveries and i was 65 mile away from my ps5 played about an hour of god of war 2018 over 4g and it worked perfectly...no i put lag or anything i was surprised....and my mate plays destiny 2 on his lunch everyday at work over 4g
I love remote gaming. My only issue with it is most controllers don't feel as good as stock controllers and stock controllers aren't convenient for portability
I just bought the backbone for myself last month. I’m really enjoying it so far, but it’s certainly best for certain types of games more so than others. Maybe it’s just a matter of needing to get used to it more. I’ve been working on the 100% for god of war, and I find that it’s definitely harder to play with the backbone, but definitely not impossible. While I’m also playing final fantasy 7 remake, which has simpler controls and is much better suited for it. And then I’m also playing midnight suns which is perfect for the backbone since it’s not reliant on quick decisions.
Official Remote Play app compare to PSPlay is "Unplayable" for me Lag in PSPlay is much much less than official one. I'm using my phone's 2.4GHz hotspot to connect directly to PS4 and have a really good experience with HD/60fps, almost no disconnects or stutter.
I don't know why you focused heavily on the obvious drawbacks to remote gaming. You spent forever talking about the screen size. That's pretty darn obvious that a bigger screen is going to be nicer. Then you talk about playing at McDonald's because you have to play your game and won't go home to your TV. Pretty positive any gamer who can go home to their TV will go home to their TV. This is useful for people traveling and that don't have an easy way to get back to their house. This review video could have been so helpful but instead of focusing on actual helpful review information from the experience you focus on obvious things. Clearly this video was made at the length it was so that you could collect revenue. Obviously the revenue was the focal point here and the content seems to be second. Probably won't ever watch another one of your videos again.
Wait a minute. You can play your ps5 somewhere else? Since when? I thought as soon as I disconnected from my wifi it’s over…… where can I go? And how far can I go
The official app has problems this has been known and updates have been super slowwww there. On android try PS Play it’s $7 and it’s better than the official Sony remote play app. I was close to getting a backbone but then I decided against it. PS Play gives me rumble and dualsense features via OTG wired connection on android. Plus I can change the light of the dualsense to whatever I want. Also a bunch of 3rd party controllers are supported on PS Play and there’s aspect ratio, you can fill the entire screen and remove those black bars with no real loss to important screen info. I know using a paid 3rd party app may put off some but it’s worth it yo…PS Play on android get it.
I have a really stable wifi connection. I can sit right in front of my ps5 and it can still barely connect and will quit out within like 5 minutes. I don’t have issues with any other wifi based streaming in ny apartment, AirPlay is flawless.

Using Remote play both on Xbox and PlaySation to stream to my PC (via Local Area Network) and play that way, i never had big issues. I even stream while playing through remote play. Great video as always.
Just ordered one today. I can’t wait to try it out! It’s an open box one for only $50, I couldn’t resist.
This means you have to change your router since your router is your bottleneck here.
@@GrantYeggehey question here, i have 135 Mbps download and upload, going through an ethernet cable (both ps5 and laptop) playing on remote play is doable until like 10/20 minutes in and then the delay starts, its about half a second to sometimes more then a second… any idea how to fix this?
@@OfficialInternship - What model router/modem are you using?

I’m a truck driver who misses their console gaming. Thank you for finally giving some kind of verdict if how it would most likely go for me with one of these if my console is in UT and I’m in TX.
Slay the spire or other games similar are really good on remote play since they're turn based card games. You don't need any precise reaction or anything, you just pick the cards you want to play and wait
the ps play app is actually really good. i've never had a problem using it even when using mobile data, i wish the ps backbone was available for android it would make remote play so much better
Just buy the Razer Kishi V2 its the same product but in black and it works for android
I have the kishi and it is good but I'm not a fan of the triggers or the sticks.
Which is why we need a new vita
@@riptaiyo Monkeypaw moment lol
My remote play works perfectly over 5g

I've never experienced major connection issues outside it was all a smooth great experience and I wished more people actually where able to experience and appreciate remote gaming like I do to this very day!
loved the Tyrell mini house tour.
great video s always
If I were to use my a Bluetooth controller, I notice a lot more latency, so I just use the backbone, since it’s direct Input as opposed to Bluetooth (so it helps with diminishing input lag with it already being streamed)
what visual novels do you play
I did not expect this vlog style video for the experiment, this was refreshing from the usual settings 💯👌🏾
You can see his "pain" playing remotely on the thumbnail
P5 background music and Kawakami body pillow? Mystic's so cultured.
Never had a problem with backbone One! you just need good reception or good wifi so you won’t have connection issues! It works perfect for taking my ps5 on the go
Having the possibility to play your favorite games when you’re not even at home is amazing
Playing on my phone via gamesir x2 + psplay app on my job on lunch time via 4g connection every day, its great!
This was an insightful video. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have learned that I am as far away as possible from remote play.
Love creative videos like this one Mystic, thank you!!!
If it works good for u on the Vita, imagine newer devices...Vita only uses 2.5ghz wifi...most devices now use 5ghz+
11:27 always a surprise, but a highly welcomed one when we see Terrel in a video.
The boys are back in town! :)
I played through Inscryption on remote play in my bedroom. The turn based gameplay made it quite nice!
Yes I played on an iPad pro before in my house in another room and for the most part it worked fine...but latency really kicked in in key moments of the game that I was playing making it unfun. Remote Play is good in a pinch if bored but not something I would use regularly. Thanks for the video as always though
My favorite time of the week is when Mystic uploads!!!!
I have used remote play at work and it works great for single player games. There is a bit of input delay and frame drops at times. But I do have att towers at my job so my signal is always strong.
Played HOURS of Horizon Forbidden West in the hospital for the week we were there while my wife was in labor.... for 4 days lol then another 4 days staying there while she recovered. Honestly I was SO GRATEFUL for PS remote play, the lag and quality issues didn't bother me AT ALL. But I have the s23 Ultra do that bug screen helped.
Cloud gaming and remote play both have a long way to go.
The best setup I would recommend is to get a Steam Deck with a dock. I have it and I can play so many games in both handheld mode or on my PC monitor or on my TV. Steam Deck is an amazing versatile tech.
You mean cloud gaming and remote play have come a long way
@@jimmyjay689 I mean sure but also no. It can not be used even with a amazing connection.
@@jimmyjay689 No I mean they still have a long way until they be at an acceptable level.
@@h.a.6060 it's already at an acceptable level is just the fact that the the internet infrastructure of the world isn't on the same level. I've been using remote play for years and unlike in this review I don't have many of these problems. 1gbps download 45 upload and my phone has 5G+. Also make sure you're using your own equipment for internet and not using the ISP provided equipment I suggest.
@@jimmyjay689 been using remote play since the PS3 days (2008), it really has come a long way but the internet of the world is still lagging behind in many places. I have a friend who's paying the same amount for their internet service as I am but they only get 300 download 10 upload speed where I'm getting 1 gig download 45 upload speed.
The Nvidia shield Tv box actually works well. From PC to any TV in the house. Changes the game for me.
Not gonna lie the Backbone is a very capable device
12:55 Terrell’s collection tho! My GOD!! 😍🙌🏾
I have top speed internet at 1GBPS and it runs flawlessly away from home. Every once in a while it hiccups but I get around 60fps. I actually was surprised considering I just recently stumbled on it. I love the fact I can PS5 on my PS4 and Pro. Wish I found this feature sooner.
Me too my ps5 tests at 1gbps. And I absolutely love remote play.
The problem is I’ve noticed less and less titles are available for remote play. Which sucks.
Really love your content, man. Keep it coming! Also, your friend has a badass gaming room. That Simpson’s arcade game is so much fun.
Honestly, if your willing to pay a small fee, the PSPlay app is way better than the official app imo. It just works great and I can play on my Nvidia Shield too, so that's a plus.
I love the button interface for PSPlay, it makes it really easy to play simple games like Uno and Minecraft Dungeons. Since I have a Samsung S10+, I like plugging my phone into a hotel room TV with an adapter and playing with my DS4. I've been able to play Black Ops Cold War and keep a positive K/D. Really nice, much better than the native PS Remote Play.
Love the honesty in your reviews
I used to use PS4 remote play a lot a few years ago. While the experience isn’t great, I feel you just need to temper your expectations with it.
My partner was at university at the time in a different city and I’d travel down every weekend to see her. She also worked over the weekends so while she was at work I’d chill on remote play on her iMac.
While the experience wasn’t perfect, it was most certainly better than not having the option at all.
Remote play on a desktop/iMac is definitely going to be better than a phone or tablet
Nice video, man. Really useful before the holidays
The thumbnail is priceless and its because it's not a true Playstation layout on the Playstation version on the backbone.
Remote play best usage is for the more “slower” paced game, so when you are chasing a trophy such as Yugioh, turn based Final Fantasy etc
Terrell's game room is awesome! Gorgeous collection and so well arranged. That's how you do it!
I did Tales of borderlands on remote play - while watching football. Worked pretty good.
I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, never been interested in remote play at all, but its nice to know its an option if I ever feel like trying it out.
Single men usually arent
God your intro always makes me so nostalgic I wish the ps5 had xmb and themes
i have a question regarding the Backbone, what happens to the touch pad in this case? plenty of games use the touchpad as a button at the very least and as a touchpad proper at most
Have to touch the top of the screen that you are using. It’s so annoying.
I love these videos. keep them coming Ryan
I wonder why was your cellular connection so poor. I tried playing Control on cellular connection in Europe and it was quite decent experience with good resolution and not much input lag.
My experience exactly
Did it a lot with my PS4 + Vita.
Very sad.
I did play through Inside when it launched on Ps Plus via the remote play tho. Enjoyed the game because it was short.
That's why I love the Wii U, you can play almost every game on the gamepad with no latency, rock solid 60fps and it's comfortable to hold.
Don't get married
Get a new wife.
My job is doing deliveries and i was 65 mile away from my ps5 played about an hour of god of war 2018 over 4g and it worked perfectly...no i put lag or anything i was surprised....and my mate plays destiny 2 on his lunch everyday at work over 4g
Soon gonna be a normal with the project q
My god. Love that stagger sound effect.
I love remote gaming. My only issue with it is most controllers don't feel as good as stock controllers and stock controllers aren't convenient for portability
The Nintendo switch and the new PS Portal need to have cellular capabilities, that would be genius
Old video but still appreciate it! Extremely knowledgeable and helped a lot! Thanks man!

Official Remote Play app compare to PSPlay is "Unplayable" for me
Lag in PSPlay is much much less than official one.
Love ur boys gaming room/collection looks killer very nice
I have a really stable wifi connection. I can sit right in front of my ps5 and it can still barely connect and will quit out within like 5 minutes. I don’t have issues with any other wifi based streaming in ny apartment, AirPlay is flawless.
Just watching this … and i just love Mystic hahaha you make my night .. when you said you want to come back home and make a face 😂😊😊😊 love you 🥰
If you live in Mexico (like me), playing with Remote Play is literally impossible, you get disconnected every 5 minutes.
iPhone 15 Pro Max with the USB-C backbone seems like a promising prospect. Probably what I’ll go for soon!
