Also I said "polar opposites", so I think that paints a pretty clear picture (where Dorian is altruistic, Astarion is self-centered, where Dorian is self-reflective and trying to better himself, Astarion believes himself to be right and only changes/growth through the PC, where Dorian is honest Astarion is manipulative, where Dorian is actively forming friendships/relationships, Astarion keeps to himself, where Dorian is well-known for his talents as well as his bloodline and his scandals, Astarion is mainly just some guy living in the shadows, where Dorian actively shuns power over others, Astarion actively seeks it when given a chance, where Dorian actively tries to keep others from harm, Astarion approves of it, etc) Anyway the only thing they have in common is that they're queer men that tend to hide personal hurts and insecurities by humor and sometimes insults.
