  • On our trip out west we visited 4 National Parks (Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon (North and South) and Petrified Forest. We hadn't heard of the Petrified Forest until a fellow TH-camr did a video on it (It's About Time Now). After watching their video, it went on the list!
It is located approx 50 miles from the New Mexico Border on I-40 and the north entrance is conveniently located right off Exit 311 if you are traveling from the east. It is a 28 mile drive to the south entrance.
If you are traveling from the west, you will want to take exit 285 in Holbrook and follow Highway 180 19 miles to arrive at the south entrance.
The park is open from 8 to 5 and has a variety of hikes ranging from 1/2 mile to 2 miles. Many of them are paved or wheelchair and stroller accessible. Plus it is a dog friendly national park! Desi was able to go everywhere except inside the buildings.
We spent 4 hours in this park and if we had known how much fun we would have this day, we definitely would have scheduled a full day here and spent the night in the area. This is definitely a must do again when we someday head out west!
If you only have a half day like us, we definitely recommend doing the Crystal Forest Trail and the Blue Mesa Hike. The Blue Mesa we were not able to do but looks amazing and we have read it is beautiful. But if you have the time we recommend not only doing the Petrified National Forest but continue going north to do the Painted Desert. We only got a small glimpse of it as we were heading to the exit.
Overall, this park will be one of our favorites just because of the uniqueness of the park! We hope you enjoy this park and it inspires you to put it on your list as we were inspired to. And check out
It's About Time Now with Brad and Diana as they have some amazing videos of their travels as well!

It's been so long since we've seen any burrito footage.
Looks like another great day for you. Also, looks like Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. TRNP is really impressive during springtime and of the three is my favorite.

Teddy Roosevelt is on our list for when we visit Glacier. That may be next years trip - fingers crossed! And lol - burrito footage is not quite done. Another one is soon to come! Thanks for watching as always.

We are definitely glad we saw the TH-cam video on it and added to our list. One of the reasons we love watching videos before we go - someone has always found the cool places to see!

The Rainbow museum does sound good. Ford would love that. Looks like some great hikes. Old Faithful that’s not a geyser. 😂😂. For not being there but a few hours, you saw a lot. It does look like the Badlands in some of the areas. The teepees and newspaper rock are really cool sounding. Bill and DeAnna

It was a really great stopover and being right off 40 is so convenient. And yes - I actually went back and checked that I remembered correctly on Old Faithful lol!

We love that National Park! The Rainbow Museum is so cool and the hikes are awesome. We did the Long Logs and the Agate House hikes. Both really cool hikes. We camped on BLM land along the Little Colorado River. Can't wait to get back west.

It is a great park that isn’t talked about enough! We also can’t wait to go back out lol. Our eventual return trip here is high on our list. What was your favorite thing about the park - we really wished we could have done the Blue Mesa hike along with the Long Logs and Agate House. That BLM land sounds amazing. Will check that out for next time! Thanks for watching!

This is a hidden gem. It is a little off the interstate and it is awesome! Were you intimidated by the signs? (You will be prosecuted if a piece is found on your person or car, that could be inspected)....but can purchase at the end in the souvenir shop. Great video! We enjoyed it too!

It really is! We did see the signs haha! We would be nervous if we had small kids for sure - would be checking them down before they got in the car lol. Thank you for watching - appreciated!
