Don Pedro and his merry band of soldiers are returning to Messina, victorious! Love is in the air as Claudio, a returning soldier, falls instantly in love with the beautiful Hero. Meanwhile, the friends of Beatrice and Benedick have fun trying to make them fall in love with each other. However, it’s not all smooth sailing - jealous Don John and his sidekicks are determined to ruin the love between Claudio and Hero. And Benedick and Beatrice aren’t interested in marriage. How in the world did Beatrice and benedick fall in love just because of telling lie won't they think first
They were in love already. It's hinted that they have had some kind of relationship in the past, she says "I know you of old" regarding Benedict. So, really, all they did was tell Beatrice and Benedict the truth even though they were dishonest about the details.
