Why do all kids fill on bar 5? I'm a drum teacher and I see it all the time. Is it possible that they're right and we do just what it was told us without questioning? Does filling on bar 5 make you get the gig with miley cyrus?
Well, if you think about it in terms of trading 4s, it makes perfect sense. A self-trading scenario: introduce the groove for 4 bars, strut your stuff for the next. Me and my brother Billy were playing drums at the same time growing up. Of course I was always better, 3 1/2 years younger, but that is besides the point: we had both our kits (eventually, we had to earn getting drum sets as youngster, practice pad-snare-snare with cute splash cymbal-drum set🙌), set up together in the basement and traded 4s occasionally. We never traded 3s or 5s for that matter, but I think I’m on to something...🤔😂 great episode🙌

i'm a double bass player and my drummer's ride cymbal once fell on my bass while playing and cracked the seam, so i would disagree about having light cymbal stands.
shashank das - I was playing with a guitarist who was being vey childish and swinging his guitar around like a Pete Townsend or someone.... and he knocked my Hi-Hat over. They landed on his very expensive extra long guitar cable - and neatly sliced it in half, silencing him. 😎
