Project Zomboid is the story of a community desperate to stabilize an apocalyptic environment in order to play Farming Simulator
Or both fighting and building, with ever increasing intensity and depth.
now you can watch your crops grow in 500+ fps!
crazy how we could just go to minecraft but we stay here
I mean for me it’s fishing simulator 🤷♂🤣
It's crazy how zomboid is already better than 90% of fully finished AAA titles, and they're still pumping out absolutely massive updates
Triple A games are all so incredibly bad and shallow. Even FF has fallen victim to the money machine. I’m thankful cool smaller devs exist that still make fun games.
@@Idkwhtpsipto Agreed... Very formulaic. It's just due to how they have to get funds. Investors don't like risk, so that stifles creativity.
Been playing a lot of Kenshi and Zomboid lately.
Sadly they are massive. I would much prefer all this 42 stuff that is coming to be cut into for example 4 pieces and get smaller vut more frequent updates
@@burningshine5524 It's all interdependent. If we did this, you'd have had a lot less content overall because the smaller updates needing putting out means that we can't 'mix the streams' of the various dev branches, it causes merge issues for bigger features, slows down progress a lot, and multiple big features can't be designed to cooperate. In this example, the crafting overhaul and the animals are hugely interdependent and if we put one out before the other it would mean the design and depth would suffer dramatically. A big reason this build is taking so long is because it took us a ton of time to get a stable version of b41 that we were happy to leave not getting updated for a long while, and the fact we had a live build we had to regularly update meant b42 features had to be sectioned off in their own little quarantined code branches, and this was hampering development of b42 features heavily.
Also, making smaller, more frequent updates, we'd probably not have been able to grow the company to support the amount of dev we have now, since the releases would be smaller, less hyped and not a big enough deal to generate or bring back attention to the game and lots of new players to fund the development, and the hugely successful b41 that pretty much made our game may never have happened and we may still be a niche title with a team 1/8th of the size.
Imagine having the budget of a AAA game invested into zomboid. The posibility of a better engine, how fast major patches would drop. Damn....
This game really shows the difference between a game made for profit and a labor of love. I've been playing for a few years now and there are always improvements being made. This game is easily some of the best money i've ever spent. I can't wait to see how the devs continue to improve this wonderful game!
I want them to make a huge profit and I want them to be able to do it without the AAA crunch that puts their workforce through absolute hell. These folks deserve to be rich for all the work and the amazing game they’ve made and they deserve to do it without losing their minds.
@johnracine4589 I want them to make as many dlc as they want I know it will be worth the price given all the impressive updates of the past
this is 100% BS, the only reason this game is alive before even release final version are the MODDERS, this is the truth, the devs of this game are LAZY, VERY VERY lazy and slow to update, i know because i mod this game for 3 years now, and my mod already have MORE CONTENT than the full game alone, so NO its not a exageration when i say they are SLOW and LAZY. you all should start to be more fair, this game is alive because of MODDERS, period.
@@ninjawizard7021 lol , you dont add jpeg to a wall ingame and call it mod
@@ninjawizard7021 It's always weird when chefs who have improved a recipe -- sometimes making a fantastic new dish that has brought them deserved/earned attention and fun -- invest mileage in scorn for the chefs who invented the dish they're adding ingredients to, but may not cook at the same pace as they do for a ton of reasons.
I just wonder when we're actually gonna get our hands on this, but we need to let them cook, it's better to wait and get something good and polished than have it rushed and get a buggy mess
Indeed. The PZ devs have always proven their updates do release, and they've always impressed. Just gotta give them the time they need!
What I’ve seen developers usually take their time only for it to be a buggy mess
I understand when they used to take so long but they are much bigger now, it shouldn’t take this long anymore
@@Phasguyyeah its a big new update of course its gonna have bugs
@@0GreenBerry That's not how it works. Adding more devs = being able to add more features, not spend less time on features.
You walk into a gas station, and find a pack of cigarettes.
*The fifty-strong orchestra about ready to shatter your eardrums:*
Lmao
Bit late, but I can already imagine a mod where if you find cigarettes it will play the sound of an old cigarette commercial
I think the music is a major contribution to PZ’s atmosphere. The non-combat adaptive music is incredible to me. This game is truly amazing.
haahha i wouldnt know, i turn the music off in my playthru cuz its immersive breaking for me
i think they are gonna do a think were the music also changes when going into a residential area which gives a sence of safety and then when moving out of it will change into a more calming but unnerving feeling which is really cool.
@@raidermaxx2324same lol
@@raidermaxx2324 Unrelatable, I think the music adds richness. I don’t see how it can be immersion-breaking since the music is designed to match the output to what the character is doing or experiencing.
@@raidermaxx2324as a hardcore realism buff, I highly endorse the music. It truly fits and never breaks the immersive ambience in my opinion. It changes as zombies approach you adaptively, and can really make you feel in the moment 👌
Man I'm so glad to see that they still pick up ideas from the most popular mods; I hope they notice the ones that negates the inmunity to air contagion (and adds masks and stuff), it would be just a negative trait and a few crafting options.
Oh and underground tunnels! Seeing as they are adding more layers, it should be viable to add some Metro-ish locations.
Procedural generation of basements is encouraging! It means they're at least dabbling in it. I'd absolutely LOVE a full map mode that procedurally generates a county, of course assuming that it was well made.
You can bet the backrooms folks would love it
the largest problem with Z's map system, is that it needs preset buildings to place on the map.
that could be handled by taking the lot of buildings made so far, wrapping them under the preset tag "US Midwest", and allowing for other preset styles to be made...
"US Midwest" is largely wooden buildings, to US code (self-contained building, spacious lot, two stories max, etc), so, varying it could result in more European styles (wall-to-wall, multiple stories, lower level as commercial and upper stories as apartments, etc)
the map itself is manageable procedurally... it's the making and placing of buildings that's complex.
once you'd explored the lot of them, you'd know what to expect, regardless of how large the map is.
@@bcn1gh7h4wk I've dabbled around with the editor enough to know it's possible to make one. There's nothing wrong with prefab chunks for procedural generation. That's how Diablo does it. That's how Spelunky does it. Most modern roguelikes do it that way, and it turns out good.
Even if the generator kept the town names, for the sake of the paper items that mention them, and each town generally had some procedurally generated scrambling of building placement, so that it lays out zones for commercial, residential, etc, then just scrambled the building placement for each zone, and also placed the cities/towns somewhat randomly on the map (need to be X distance from Y, etc), that would give a whole lot of life to the game. It would give those of us who can get everything we need consistently by day 10 a reason to use the in game map.
@@RadishAcceptable I mean, the procedural part is OK... it's the _bringing the solid block required_ that's a problem.
you may _procedurally generate_ a map and declare "here be housing".... but that housing itself will have to be a solid construct.
*IT* can't be randomized.
_[unless!:] you make each tile spawn the same 1x1 solid block of wall, generically painted, each block of wall being an individual "building".... and that would give you a totally random maze, because you then CAN make a random "building" (not!) by combining a finite set of small parts such as 4 corners, inner and outer, straight wall N/S and E/W, door, and archway._
the smaller the piece, the more customizable... but that'd break the furniture and loot system.
@@bcn1gh7h4wk Right, and that's not really an issue, I don't think. There's a big enough pool of prefab houses that it's fine. The player will gain familiarity with of all your prefabs eventually, but that's no different to how it is in a modern roguelike and it still switches it up enough that you can't memorize the map and B line straight to everything you need for long term survival in 7-10 days.
the idea of having some critters running around in the world sounds amazing (given the current information I'm more hyped about the different animals than I am for NPCs). Also I hope they add more insects (and bears, even though they're not native to Knox country)
I'm waiting for the cryptid mods personally
Imagine if the rats can eat the corpses
Ohhh we got bears

I joined the Zomboid community only like six months ago, so having all those infos in one rather short video is immensely helpful. Thank you!

9 YEARS?! WHAT THE HELL!@@envyme894
Been playing for 10 years….There’s not a huge amount of us but the ones that stay love this game.
I wonder if player sounds are going to be heard from zombies. If so, it’d be neat if your fitness level determines how much noise your player makes when exerting.
Think thats already a thing, but it comes under the 'clumsy' stat. Fitness is just stamina, how long you can run for etc
Glad to see you making videos about this underrated games, keep it up
More to come!
Underrated only by neophytes, true survival gamers understand it's potential as soon as they touch the game
Game is growing way too much recently to be classified as underrated
It’s one of the biggest indie games.
All I want from this new crafting system is the ability to dry food to be able to completely cut off electricity and generators.
I also hope there will be the ability to plant wheat, make flour, pasta and other slow perishable foods.
yeah or like.. make jam? how can you not be able to make jam?
@@Jerrywood111 they could easily add it since canning is already in the game

@@burningshine5524 astute observation
I can't wait till Build 42 comes out. Its gonna be great 👍thanks for the update vid
My pleasure.
As much as I want to have this update soon / now i have absolutely no problem with them taking as long as they need to get it right! Not only because it's clearly an ambitious and well packed update with oodles of quality improvements to the basegame, but also the fact that they Thursdoid blogs (and your news sharing videos too) and really make an effort to keep the community informed on what's going on!
Build 42 is going to be epic and I'm totally here for it when it happens! 😁
I think the problem most people are running into is there doesn't appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel. Every thursdoid seems to be "hey this is another feature we are going to add" instead of progress being made on features they are already attempting to add. It feels like trying to do to much all at once and the game is suffering for it.
@@FlailofFury True and I can understand that, it definitely is taking a long time but I do think we are seeing progress. Though sometimes going from the old "this is what we want / plan to do" list to the "this is how it's turning out" updates it can end up looking like new features being added rather than simple progress updates, a lot of which is likely caused by a significant change / upgrade to the game's back end framework.
Just decided to get this game today. After 4/5 quick deths, i am starting to get the hang of surviving the first night haha.
Welcome to Project Zomboid. Enjoy the process! Our Discord is always there if you've got questions.
@@MrAtomicDuck tnx, I'll check it out
My current max is 25 days.
Haha just picked up the game and have had the same experience. Restarted a couple times with some mildly tweaked Sandbox settings to smooth my 'learning curve' out a bit. But random silly deaths are all part of the fun.
idk if this would be weird but. imagine they made a update where you live in a time that there is no zombie virus infection happening at the moment and you are just living out your regular every day life. Doing regular every day tasking like going to working, buying groceries or hanging out with friends at a house party, playing games and eating BBQ. Then at some point during the game you see on tv there is a announcement of an unknown virus going around and that people should be careful and aware it. Then slowly see people panic and acting strange as you live out your regular life not know why they are behaving this way. Soon after you see zombies slowly and gradually start becoming part of the population, mixed with humans and sometimes see zombies attacking people, humans attacking each other trying to steal your personal belongings, riots brake out, looting, cars on fire, cars crashing into humans and zombies, gun fire, gun cross fire. I think that would be so awesome just like a life simulator that turns into a zombie apocalypse.
It's fantastic how much work they're willing to put into the late game of such a brutal permadeath experience. It's a major reason I keep coming back, even after losing weeks of progress- there's always something more to explore, and the game makes you earn the right to see it. That feeling when you finally break through and reach a new height of achievement is absolutely ecstatic.
It would be nice if they added horses in some later updates as an alternative mode of transportation.
"Horsing around" mod is cool and all, but it would be nice to have something more... realistic.
I guess you never watched The Walking dead😂
You can not even sit on couch, I doubt they manage a horse

I absolutely love this game, the realism and the adaptability for mods to expand that experience is nothing compared to any other game
hats off to the devs
You’re like the project zomboid version of WOBO. Thank you for all your work!
I don't know who that is, but I'm sure they're a great creator and I'll absolutely take the compliment 😄
I love that zomboids won't attack animals, maybe the soundd animals make can still attract them .. housing your animals greatly reduces these sounds. I love this game
What I'm curious about is how we obtain farm animals. Are they located in specific locations we need to discover? Is there a limited amount of time for us to find them before they either die or escape their pens? Or are they located in the wild and need to be found and coaxed back to a pen?
It would be weird if we just... got them via crafting.
Very good question! They aren't crafted, they will be found in the world, but I'm not sure how locations will work with regards to animals.
I'd imagine most farm animals will spawn, at farms. Perhaps somewhat more rarely somewhere in the wild, either to simulate their wild life counterpart or some that might have escape during or right before the apocalypse happened. Could be easily done in a similar manner to how the game spawns in various zombie types in special locations, like doctors in a hospital or fire fighter at a fire station.
I could also see animals maybe escaping their pen in an attempt to not starve to death.
you're the fuckin best, Duck, even though my crippling ADHD has killed all my passion for gaming, you still stir it up with this fuckin amazing game!
Glad to be of service my friend :)
crippling ADHD?? LOL you mean your love for prescription meth?? You just need to up your adderall bruh.. you will be right as rain.. Sorry i just never heard nobody blame their ADHD "kill" their passion for gaming.. You sure you aint got nuthin else going on ? What the hell is "crippling ADHD" anyways?? You play a game ofr 3 minutes before playing another game or something/? I dont get it. As you can prolly tell, i dont even believe is an actual thing, but maybe you can convince me
I wonder how light footed and stealth will effect hunting hope inconspicuous gets a bonus and hope some clothes get some sort of stealth bonus/malus (would make sense camo works better for hunting than say a construction vest) and stealth gets reworked Ik it used to be op with a knife earlier builds but they overly nerfed it especially stealth to the point of uselessness.
Seeing the sheep makes me really want there to be dogs. Having a loyal companion to tred the apocalypse with. To help herd, track and hunt, guard, warn of approaching threats, search. Find, feed, and heal a stray. Build up your relationship and train it to different things. Different breeds that are better at different things.
Until they start barking
you so know there's a fan somewhere out there scribbling the guidelines for an RPG system with this code.
think about it: baseball bats, pipe wrenches and shovels are no different to war hammers, poleaxes and maces.
if one can make a sneaky thief with nothing but butter knives, one can make a fully fledged ranger complete with bow and arrow, and pets.
There is mod that does that but I don't know if they updated it to latest build
I hope they decide to eventually add bears and wolves to give an added depth to those ambient sounds you sometimes hear, as well as added threat to living out in the wilderness (besides zombie migration of course)
If you think about it, feral dogs and maybe even cats can be pretty dangerous, cats might not be able to kill you, but a badly timed scratch or bite might cause pain at an inconvenient time (or maybe even get sick with an expanded illness system to make first aid more useful), while a pack of feral dogs are faster than the player and can maul and eat the player as effectively as any wolves if they are hungry enough, which they will be as zombies are inedible.
Actually even deer and cattle can mess people up on a bad day, and in a setting with no proper medical care, having a broken rib from a grumpy bull can be the end.
It depends on how much risk/reward the devs want animals to be in this game. Are they free meals, or do you have to keep them happy to avoid trouble?
ooh, zombie bears and wolves would rock!
Having a dog as a pet maybe? A trusty little zombie fighting companion?
I think wildlife pops should explode based on time past
@@Mglue3 That would be a nice feature, given that animal husbandry is going to be part of the Build 42 (or is it 43) update perhaps that is something we will see happen naturally as well.
Thank you for making a video bringing it all together so far! Build 42 is going to be a real game changer, literally, and I simply cant wait to see what mods come out of these systems! More excited about this then I am about other games out there nowadays.
They should update the tutorial, it really teaches how to walk and attack, not crafting, foraging, mechanics, barricading and more features that don’t get tought and has to be found via random TH-cam crap
The little tutorial popup that occurs when you hit F1 covers most of those
Thank you so much!!! I've been waiting for someone to compile the highlights of what they're planning for build 42! 😄
No problem!

I can''t wait for build 42, so many good things are coming :)
Super informative and good video, so much to understand and unpack here but love it. Super excited to see all this in build 42 but if we could have only one thing I think the server chuck performance would be it, course its theory if that happened cause im sure we will get most if not all this :)
Thank you for the round up! I wasn't aware so much was coming to 42. I'm not sure if I'm misremembering but I think a thursoid it was mentioned that some farm animals (like bulls) could also attack players if provoked.
Yep, they can! If you harm an animal, they might give you a kick.
There could be cats that you can have as pets. like when you spawn in theres a chance you already have a cat that you can take with you. as well as cats that make their way out of houses and other kinds of buildings to look for food, and possibly be tamed by the player. same for dogs too. dunno if this will be implemented or planned, but it would be cool.
This! I'm really hoping for pets, but it could be left to modders once we get animals
Cat burgers mmmmm
I'd imagine the npc stuff planned for build 43 would more so lend itself to pets, but I bet some modders will try for 42. I already love the idea of having a dog as a companion and what that entails.
It would be cool if the rats could get in your food and eat it and maybe pose a health risk. Having a cat would help protect your food stockpile. Cats could also be used to improve your mood too
@@blurdsytheguy2593 would be forcing you to get a fucking cat, removing individuality of playtroughs

Great to hear! Thanks a lot :)
Honestly, I hope NPCs are a feature we can toggle off in custom mode. Part of this game's charm in the single player mode is being the sole surviving human for hundreds of miles, completely isolated from anyone else. That baseline experience is also what makes playing with friends in multiplayer satisfying afterwards as a direct contrast. Having NPCs around will probably just create a more muddled experience that isn't as endearing as either being completely alone or playing with real people.
3:36 I'm betting all the 50 cents in my steam wallet that someone is going to mod the zombies so they can attack animals
Absolutely. The devs endorsed modders doing this as a good solution.
@@MrPatrickleeuwe How else would you have it be done? Do you think having every animal and every zombie in the world loaded at the same time for real-time interactions is a good idea?
@@MrPatrickleeuweNo fucking shit, my computer can barely render a crowded street, and you expect even high end ones to be able to process every single movement of the hundreds of thousands of zombies and animals across the entire map?

I think the best description of player sounds as they are/were in combat was "it sounds like a tennis match". Might've been in the dev blog 😅
Would also like to know what the fps is for the current build on their test system. "we're getting 300+ fps" doesn't really tell me anything about the performance =)
Aye, sounds about right 😂 don't worry, this was just for testing.
Agreed, they could be playing on a NASA server for all we know (hypothetical)
I already know there will be a „Zeds-attack animals“ mod coming soon after 42
Yep!
My brother got me into this game, we both installed this only a week ago and we'be been glued to it ever since. Cannot wait for this amazing update!
Pepople can be seen ripped apart in games, animals don't. What a incredible culture are these ones. Like the ones possuibly created by sanatorium patients.
That's a relief that animals wont be zombies!
Just imagine how stupidly it will be to get livestock make them survive the winter (and after which you won't be able to get any new cuz the rest of them died from cold or hunger) and then just lose them overnight to random zomb that decided to sneak into your base!
Wolves if they will ever be added would be a real threat by themselves, but if they could become to zombie...
Just a reminder that one bite is more than enough to say goodbye to your character.
While about basements... its cool if you pick house with it as your base, but if you looting one it could work as trap cuz no windows...
i hope that having zombies attack animals will be a sandbox option. (disabled by default for reasons the devs explained) but it’d be nice to have the option.
It won't be in the vanilla game, but the devs have endorsed modders adding this as a viable compromise... And I'm sure they will.
Sounds like extreme woke compromise to try and cater to the easily offended.
We see in countless zombie games shows and movies that zombies do indeed attack animals.
what are the people offended by that too?
at the end of the day it's a game, and if someone is that easily offended they do not belong playing games in the first place.
I mean FFS we have people getting ripped apart, shot beat to death by bats.
what are they going to do when it's time to add NPC's? censor all of it? not add NPC's because "it would offend"
I saw a recent post that actual dev time is being devoted to making sure nonbinary and gay couples are being added to the fucking code of the NPC's.
because THIS is what needs dev time, just what the actual fuck.
@@aelitastones3110(sorry if my english ks bad)yeah it's annoying idk who would be offended by a zomboid killing a chicken. it should at least be a sandbox option

Would love to see some use for all the instruments in the game. Using them as audio distractions for zombies. Finding sheet music and learning them which can reduce boredom. Being able to play certain calls for audio signaling (thinking like a bugle, but not limited to trumpets) to other players or even NPCs, louder instruments would be heard further away (e.g. a trumpet vs a violin). Would also like it if the new expanded churches have options to trigger bells or carillons in their towers if the church is fancy enough.

Thanks for your work and info. PZ is pretty difficult if you are playing solo, even with friends it is not that easy (in my opinion it is the main reason why many players avoid this game), so NPCs will make it easier and funnier. Hopefully, it may expand the community and bring new players to the game.
I subscribed to see more PZ content. By the way, your narration and your voice are quite cool, keep it up.

@@MrAtomicDuckmaybe even getting blind from moonshine 😅
i'm entirely ok with them taking their time. i'm having a good time playing the current build...not looking forward to the break i'm going to have to take when 42 comes out, while i wait for all my mods to be made compatible with it.
I would LOVE to see phase 3 (or maybe even 2) of NPC update be more intricate with a colony simulator style. Be able to create a safe place to live, have survivors build either preset structures or structures you designated (maybe through a custom build server??), transports, have them set off to get supplies (like 'look for weapons', 'look for food', 'find survivors', etc etc).
What would also be equally as amazing is since their idea for NPCs is to have each house hold a story (from the sounds of it, every set of zombies was once a real family and belonged to a house??) is they could make houses more alarmed and have to kill zombies to get keys for specific houses to loot. On top of that, could make a scenario where you are at the start of the apocalypse while everyone is still alive, over the course of like 12-48 in game hours could the infection spread from a random dense starting point to the entire map.
It sucks that it is years between major updates but it is better than nothing...
Just wow i cant believe this, this is all so amazing !!
03:43 that’s honestly a concerning and dumb reason. I’m not even in favor of zombie animals, I just find that reasoning to be a potential red flag.
Yeah it feels like it makes sense for there not being zombie animals as the virus works on humans but it feels like a weird excuse, I feel like what they actually should say is that its too difficult to make it balanced in the gameplay because all farm animals would just die on day 1-3 and there would be no reason to have them in game or it would make it too frustrating for players or something like that. Instead of this ridiculous excuse.
I wonder if it would be possible for them to eventually give the zombies some tweaks for variety, like maybe adding child zombies, or chubby zombies, it would make things more believable i think! Or at least give the player the option to enable the spawns of those on the Sandbox settings.
Yeah, its so weird there are no child Zs. Like, where did they all go?
Chubby Zs are added by Authentic Z i think?
@@burningshine5524 Yeah, the absence of zombie children kinda makes them adding things like Playgrounds to Restaurants and Fast-Foods a bit useless other than just "looking cool" i think. And yeah im aware that Authentic Z's adds chubby zombies but it's only like 2 of them if i recall correctly and i don't see why not have them in vanilla as well? It shouldn't be too hard to implement right?
If I remember correctly, they have already stated that children are never coming to the game, due to possible rating issues.
@@aninternetuser8102 Damn, that actually sucks. Isn't the game already rated "M" though?? I mean, it's clearly not for kids. Plus, There's a lot of media that depicts zombie kids and there wasn't any actual problem related to it other than random people bitching about it on Forums.
@@SevKast_7 I don't know about america, but where I live and I asume in a bunch of other places as well, the game dosn't yet have the highest age rating. I asume the devs want to keep it that way.
An emotional support pig is exactly what a survivor needs when the isolation starts to get to you. I can't wait.
I believe that in east, they prefer sheep for this... :D
God damn i was already pumped for b42 and I was up to date on everything, but seeing it all together now is just exciting me a lot about the future of this game. I cannot wait to play on B42 and see everything together!
Mojang should take notes from Indie Stone
I really hope they make Field of View a setting that players can adjust in settings as to its darkness. I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m used to the current version, but the out of view area in the video seems too bright and gives the appearance that those areas are visible.
It's actually been adjusted since the footage shown in this video, we had newer footage but it wasn't in this video, but now it has blurring it so its not as rigid a line, and upping the transparency so its not as prominant. we've added options for player to adjust too.
@@lemmy103 You folks are doing the lord's work and is very much appreciated by all of us
I've only just found this game, absolutely love it and I'm happy to see it's only going to get better! ❤
Welcome to Project Zomboid :) Hopefully you enjoy your time with the community!
thanks for the video!! Greetings from Belgium.
Thanks for watching!
Speaking as an NPC, the lack of my inclusion in this update made me: (Choose an answer)
1: Sad
2: Angry
> 3: (Rogue) Nice wallet
Lmao this is top tier commenting. Still enjoying Baldur's Gate then.
@@MrAtomicDuck Just rolled a crit fail on a perception check, I don't know if I'm enjoying it or not
devs please XD
- zombies ripping apart and eating humans? perfectly fine
- zombies ripping apart livestock or wild animal? MoRaLly AnD eThICaLlY cOnCeRnInG sUbJeCt
It's especially weird since they mentioned adding hunting, which I'm assuming means that the player can kill wild animals like deer. So I don't get why it's so concerning to have zombies attack them. It's not even like it's a super realistic game with incredibly detailed graphics that would mean showing a gory disturbing animal attack, they're little pixel models that would just flop over and spawn blood tiles.
Okay then, if you're peeved by it then code it yourself. I prefer not to bite the hand that feeds me
I can already imagine someone somewhere creating a mod where a cow standing on two legs wielding M16s with the other 2 legs
Even if there wont be any NPCs in 42, the updated support for 42 will add a lot of stuff for modders to work around with to make it a better possibly for a cleaner stopgap npc mod before 43.
To be honest I don't mind them taking their time at all I think its good to take their time, BUT- I do think that they should at least give us a placeholder for a release date, because I'm scared this update will take another 2 years, because it seems like they keep adding A LOT, which I love but at the same time I just wish this game would atleast get something new because its been almost 2 years since build 41 getting a stable release. So yeah! Hoping it gets released soon to get back into the game😀
Having a release date is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it's great to have a confirmed date to prepare for. On the other hand, saying it's "placeholder" is one thing, but you and I know both know the shitstorm people cause when release dates aren't met. I've been let down by release dates so many times now that I'd just rather not know until it's 100% ready to go.
@@MrAtomicDuck yeah I get that it’s definitely a risky decision to announce release dates but yeah just starved from more updates!😩can’t imagine how ppl felt pre b41💀
Yeah pre b41 was honestly brutal. I remember reading the devlogs for years and being so hyped about it but it just didnt come out. But well, when it finally did it was everything I had hoped for. So Im okay with waiting for b42 again.@@jinxthesweet
4:26 I was wondering why it didn't show up on the map when I explored it.
Now you know!
Super informative, thanks for the video
My pleasure!
"Super rare underground expanses", heavily implies possible dungeon type areas and super rare meaning possibly like Atomic said, in a bunker of sorts or something along those lines. They've already said some underground areas may alternate...let me remind everyone exactly of the mods Atomic is getting up to that he plans on implementing to servers at some point if it hasn't already been done for those who aren't aware, basically randomized dungeons are likely being worked on for rare POIs.
Can I add, I would be hilariously stoked to have an assembly line of machines doing certain things. Good things is what that means. Mods can take that further if the dev team aren't already planning on that and we could see people making factory type mod machinery.
While Im so excited for the update & can’t wait to play it, I’m 100% okay with them taking as much time as they need to make sure the update is as close to perfect as they can get it !
I was never so early (except for when I slept with my now ex girlfriend for the first time)!!
Real comment

U ?
@AndroidFerret If you're confused, David-phd2dl said, "I was never so early," in the context of watching a video. However, in parentheses, they said, "Except for when I slept with my now ex-girlfriend for the first time," meaning that they are what is known as a "quick shot", a person who easily ejaculates when stimulated. In response to this, I commented "f," which is commonly used in internet comment sections to pay respects, which originated from a C.O.D. meme.
@@dux5525he was definitely talking about him and his ex having an early bedtime, get your head outta the gutter
It's taking forever, but man when it's ready it'll be such an immense expansion! :D
MrAtomic is the GOAT for making this video. Very precise even for such a long video.
Thanks! Was challenging to try and cover everything in a reasonable time frame, so had to be very to-the-point about it all. This could easily have been 30 minutes 😂
Didn’t know zombies only ate certain things due to “ethical concerns”
i wish they would focus more on the zombie part though, this is becoming more of a crafting game with occasional zombies. and what good is a bigger world, if theres just nothing to do either? you can just stay in one town for years and have the exact same things there like anywhere else on the map. this game doesnt need a new farmin system or sheep to sheer, it needs a purpose. like have something actually happen.
Smashing stuff.
My garden is going to be spectacular 😂
There’s a few things I would love to see added too project zomboid that I don’t believe have been fully addressed yet.
1. Trees for farming. I think trees that have fruit like peaches, oranges, cashews and such would be a great addition to the game. To balance the trees I think they should take longer to grow to maturity than normal crops and the trees should be permanent. You can watch the trees grow similarly to how the other trees in the game grow. Have them grow in stages and each stages gives different yields.
2. Music items can be actually be used. It would be nice to be able to play the pianos and other guitars you can find. Maybe use it as a noise lure for zombies or simply for a quality of life upgrade. You can learn different music from magazines.
3. Animations for sitting on chairs, couches and beds. Animations can simply be sitting or can be more complicated such as eating at a table, reading a book while sitting on couch or simply laying in bed and resting.
4. More construction options. Things like proper wooden railing, rugs, couches, more bed types, cabinets and dressers.
5. Journals and working computers. Have written journals from previous survivors that tell a story. Right now the main way we can learn about what’s going on in the world is through the tv and radio. It would be pretty cool too find journals on corpse or zombies that gives us a hint of what happened to that person in their last few days of life. Computers can also be used similarly and we can find information such schematics or hints too loot.
6. More hints of what happened at the quarantine zone. Maybe show mass graves or giant hordes trapped in fenced areas.
7. More cosmetic features for base building would be nice.
8. More guns and customizations for guns. Current mods help fix this issue. But having more guns in the base game would be nice. Crossbows and bows and arrows would be a massive plus. Give us a silent option too kill zombies and an easy way to balance them is to make it harder to aim at lower aim levels and decrease the range.
there is "let them cook" and then there is "edging the community for 2 years"
Build 41 took them even longer. Its pretty standard for this dev team and if that's what it takes for the quality of product they release, I'm all for it.
Don't play star citizen lol
I think being concerned at some sort of 'moral' level about killing animals is a bit cognitively dissonant when we are playing a game where we are caving in the skulls of the undead. Seems like a weird priority and i hope it doesnt metastasize into more bizarre 'moral' positions in further updates. Dont wanna upset xyz group for whatever reason. But that being said, i cant wait for the update, looks amazing
Great video Duck! Surprised you didn't mention anything about fire and the fire mechanics... is that not coming to b42? from what we've seen is it's not only getting a graphical update but the way it spreads is also going to change, it's a massive video so dont blame you if you didn't add some stuff, keep up the good work my dude
Unconfirmed for B42, the guys working on it are now flat out on the MP improvements. Would be good to get it in, but couldn't say for sure atm.
I'm excited for animals as I use the farm in Riverside as my main base so that suits me just fine.
Hopefully for others there will be new farms in the new areas they add.
I'm so glad animals cant get attacked by zombies, I missed that update and I was worrying about it. I'm glad the devs are taking their time, cant wait to see all my mods break when 42 drops Q_Q
There will definitely be a few weeks where mods are borked. Much to look forward to though!
Theres hope for a cure then...
Should be an on / off option to allow Z to attack / feast on animals or use them as a lure
@@xxjeanmichelgamingxx8501I agree I was actually looking forward to the lure or as a life line to distracted a horde chasing you
But also the unique builds to help protect your animals
Hot take: I find the devs not wanting to let zombies kill animals due to religious reasons is a bit..."safe"
Take No More Room in Hell for example, when they release zombified kids as an enemy type, it stired up a lot of controversy from the media, and in reponse they basically said: "Our vision is to make a game gruesome and realistic. We won't remove it, so just deal with it"
PZ all this time has emphasised the theme of "nothing-survives" so it's really gonna look odd when the (supposedly) dead world, where everything already crumbled, and right outside your house some cows just moseying along. And the reasoning of "it only effect humans" felt like an afterthought/excuse.
It does seem like an excuse, but it is probably actually an unfun mechanic so I'm fine with it. Though if the religion thing is their main reason you'd think they'd make it a setting. After all, it's a violent game.
Realistically I assume it just makes the game run terribly. Imagine hordes constantly breaking into houses and chasing rats around.
Thanks for the summary!
My pleasure!
I absolutely believe there will be a sewer system as in the building editor (it’s in tile ed tools from the pz modding tools) there’s four walls called “sewer” and I’ve never seen them anywhere in the current game.
Oh wait so having player characters torn to bits with crunchy sounds and blood curdling screams to acompany the crushing feeling of being eaten alive by zombies is fine but oh no we might offend someone if a zombie eats a cow off-screen...honestly, this PC bull is a bit much sometimes.
Oh brother
Not gonna lie, that "cultural" argument about animals, in a post-apocalyptic zombie game, is just ridiculous.
People will complain about it regardless. Sorry for the example, but I don't think you'll want to eat your dog during an apocalypse too.
Tbh I think it's more for certain cultural and religious beliefs like "don't eat pork" that they aren't having it in the game. If I had to guess, the game sells well in Muslim areas of the world and they don't want to potentially cut off all those players.
This is all speculation tho. I could see zombies tearing into pigs being a no-no in some parts of the world.
@@tgs5725i mean, if i have to be honest, eating pigs in a scenario where everthing went apeshit is not forbidden and even in some extreme case, encouraged.
I was thinking of the Hindus, since theres no go to eat meat in any occassion.
@arima272 umm. Well I haven't read the entire Quran so I can't speak with certainty on that. But I know in the Christian Bible even in times of extreme hunger, eating unclean animals is never permitted. Since the Quran shares the first 5 books of the Bible I would assume it's the same. I don't believe followers of either book are supposed to consume pig flesh under any circumstance.
@@tgs5725 Nah we are not that extreme in that matter. Unless if you are talking to extremists who force everything on halal FIRST, even if its medicine that only be made by substances that is considered makruh or haram.
I love the idea that soon we'll be able to have a cozy little man-cave basement, that paired with the crafting overhaul is going to be sick, because you can bring in tiles from bars, and potentially have rooms dedicated to crafting.. I think that's going to be sick
Of all the changes in this update alone and the massive ones im excited for in the future, I feel like the adaptive music is gonna have a lot more impact than it might seem on the surface. The ambient music changing as you explore and find loot is gonna do a lot to keep the atmosphere of the game fresh even after countless hours playing
I honestly think they are going in the wrong direction, focusing on farming, and fishing and everything. They need to make the core gameplay loop more exciting, once you learn how to deal with the zombies the game gets very very very boring. Even on max population with runners, once you figure out how to play against them--- its boring again. We need other threats to make the game difficult.
I know most people think this game is one of the hardest games out there, but-- once you play it long enough, it becomes difficult to die, and I usually stop playing due to boredom.
These are planned features... AtomickDuck didn't cover everything. Like, he didn't mention the lockpicking system, the fire overhaul, the fluid system, bows and crossbows, requiring a hose to syphon gas, the new generator gameplay that will come with the machine framework, etc...
And I don't think making farming and fishing more exciting is necessarily the wrong thing to do... Some people are really into that. Cast a bigger net and you'll catch more players.
As good as all the other news is I’m so pumped for the adaptive music, OST can really make or break games and PZ already has a killer track so that improvement will make the game that much more immersive
I used to be a Amateur dev myself and boy O boy I understand the pain of making progress on making updates.
Thought personally, as one myself I prioritize functionality vs playable content. So I hope they as they add new content they keep making sure it can run efficiently. That’s what I worry about with new content. Sometimes new content isn’t always the best answer when your high end GTX can barely run the game at 16 fps.
Not only do they promise to bring further optimization in the update, but you also have to consider that there is a team behind it.
The same guys optimizing the code, are not the same that build new map parts or script new items, etc.
@@TitanKaempfer fair point.
A horse that could be used as a ride would be awesome, it could be used as a silent vehicle and they could add a fear moodle for the horse and make them prone to stampede in dangerous situations, they could also give stats for the horse making a well trained one less prone to panic
