Between southern Scotland and northern England, passing by castles and ruined abbeys, we are heading off to the heart of the historic Kingdom of Northumbria, with the picturesque and calm Holy Island, to the abandoned Roman fort of Chester-le-Street and its ancient Christian bishropic of the nine successors of Lindisfarne, and finally the capital Cathedral of County Durham, once called Dunholme - "the hill island". Following the steps of Britons, Hiberno-Irish, and Catholic saints, the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, we discover the region between the Wear and Teens.
