Even with eating the claws I could never pick all that meat and not eat it, you deserve two thumbs up for that.

Or move to the Gulf Coast. Same crab. 1/10 the price. Most all the crab sold in Maryland comes from the Gulf Coazt.

Answer is buy #1 standard bushels! Let the middle man pull out the jumbos and sell them on the side if he wants; 6-7” hard crabs are the ideal mix of size and price point. Or, get to work and catch some jumbos yourself!

Well it's not really about the price per pound. Everyone gathers around, drinks, laughs, it's about the experience of eating crabs that makes it worth it. The smiles per dollar. If I just want to eat crab meat I'm buying a couple tubs of it and making cakes lol. But if you want to bring everyone to the table for a memorable time you have to get whole crabs! Some of my best family memories are at the river eating crabs and dad making his homemade peach ice cream. Tastes just like the peach milkshake at Chick-fil-A. I need to get him to show me how to make it so I can share that experience with my kids.

What irks me is how they deceptively package blue swimming crab from Indonesia as blue claw crab and the meat is still $50 a pound. I am on Long Island NY and they are getting $10.99 for regular size livies. I bought six and made the best crab gravy. It was sooo sweeet. Thats waaay better than $70 lb for king crab. Right now you cant hardly find them anyway because the grounds off Alaska are closed.

Most of those #1 jimmys came from Galveston Bay, Texas. We have so many crab we sell off the big one for rediculous prices.
I use a knife just like this Captn. does to shuck my crab. I don't pick crab
What he's not telling you is that these days big crab in Maryland are imported from Texas and LA.
Now I admit the biggest crab probably exported, I buy beautiful crab retail here around Galveston for $4 a pound and I get to pick my own. Yet I know a friend when my own traps run dry I can get a dozen #1 jimmys for 20 bucks.
As I watch the video these prices seem insane.
