Great content as always! Original strategy was to farm, farm, farm up the base materials - a session per raw material harvesting. Levels you up and get's you out in the fresh air. Continue this whilst the farming farms run. Once you have vaults you can start hoarding and then, for me, the actual game starts and I can have some fun.
If you make steel for steel reinforcements it's also very useful to just put the iron and steelfire directly in your blacksmith bench. with a t4 thrall you can then make steel reinforcements out of iron reinforcements. I don't recall if it saves you any resources. I think it does, but it does save you the trouble of melting both iron ore into iron, and then iron into steel :)
I double checked, it does save you iron, since 1 iron reinforcement is only 2 iron bars, and you only need one iron reinforcement and 1 steelfire to make 1 steel reinforcement
I'm probably gonna end up putting all the T3 & T4 thrall tricks into their own dedicated video, I was aware of it before making this guide but thought it might have over-complicated a video that already had quite a few steps 😂
This. I was going to make this comment. Using "Reinforce!" and then unbuilding the steel fortification saves one iron bar per conversion or twice as much at a garrison forge.
At the apprenticeship level of steel production, you need a lot of extra starter work stations. You can cut back on them when you unlock expert or improved stations and finally grand master stations. Don't forget to recruit better thralls as they work faster and waste less resources. It pays to build batteries of work stations until you unlock grand master stations. Love your planted trellis guardrail system in the background
This is why I like Gallaman's Tomb a lot. Plenty of dead trees outside it for easy bark, there's a decent amount of iron, two crocodiles outside and plenty inside (just be careful of the giant one) and brimstone. It's a near perfect spot for all the resources needed to make steelfire and steel, in my opinion.
There is a trick to steel production that lets you create steel with one iron ingot but requires a level 3 blacksmith or level 4, and improved blacksmith bench. If you make Iron and create iron reinforcements you can use a thrall to make a steel reinforcement at the cost of 1 steelfire and 1 iron reinforcement. This gives you 1 steel reinforcement that you can break down to 1 steel ingot. And you need to get an improved blacksmith bench to reduce the cost of the steel bars from 2 steel reinforcements to 1 steel reinforcement to get your steel ingots. Time wise you might think this takes longer because you have to create a steel reinforcement 10s then create a steel ingot 10s. But those two steps reduce the amount of iron from 3 to 1 which means instead of taking 30 seconds to create 3 iron ingots you require only 10s to create 1 iron ingot. The two extra steps mean you have to micro manage the process a bit more but because you are harvesting one third of the iron in turn your overall time and effort making steel is greatly reduced. That time savings can be significant over the life of a character. Also for any resource processing being on a server, I personally use a private dedicated server with just 5 players on it, makes resource processing significantly easier as your resources process when you are offline. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the game more when I wake up on the weekend or come home from work and have all my hides tanned or all my stone made into bricks or all my ore turned to iron and so on. It makes the game far easier. Fuel efficient stations also become more valuable because crafting speed isn't important when your hides are tanning while you sleep. Additionally many of the fuel efficient stations often have larger space than crafting speed stations, to take advantage of this offline processing. Yet another bonus is less time harvesting fuel and anytime I can spend less time harvesting bark or ore or hides the BETTER!!!
@OzzDrake beat me to it, but yeah, leathers for perfect padding, especially when Living Settlements is functional so you can outfit your crafter thralls with good armor. Still though, a proper long-term sink would be nice. I'm still pushing for an NPC vendor that can sell whatever excess resources you give him 😂
Thank you for pointing out my mistake for striping every hide so far before tanning. But i am suprised, you didn't point out, that if you have a T3/T4 blacksmith , you can save two thirds of iron by crafting one iron into one iron reinforcement, wich in turn can be crafted together with the steelfire into one steel reinforcement. You can use those to build/craft directly, or you can turn them into steelbars in a one to one ratio. so in simple terms: T3/4 Blacksmith: 1x iron -> 1x iron reinforcement (+ steelfire) -> 1x steel reinforcement -> 1x steelbar.
Glad I could help! This guide is more targetted at beginners, so I didn't wanna over-confuse things by adding in a segment purely about the reinforcements trick. I'm probably going to end up making a separate video about all the crafting tricks that T3 & T4 thralls can do, that feels like a more appropriate place to put it for when newer players are more comfortable with steel and have those thralls available
to continue our bickering from last time: Steel ain't an element...it is an alloy.😜 But at this point, you basically can get all the steel bars from killing humans and looting their weapons, or opening chests. Put it into a dismanteling bench, done!
That is one option, though returns are quite dismal. 25 coal for 1 tar is probably not worth it compared to getting like 20 thick hide from one creature, and thusly 20 tar
@Biggarou yes, it yields about 13k brimstone if you farm with black blood tools with the advanced tool upgrade. To get that you'll also want to farm the rocknoses. Fighting the big world boss can be tricky though (Rothbranch).
I think so. Shattered Springs just has a tonne of brimstone nodes in general, plus better tools yields even more. The lower levelled areas should be okay in spurts until you can get a sandstorm mask and fight/avoid Rotbranch though
@@Eradicati0nn If I run a teast I can send you the results when finished. not totally sure what the yealds are but, you know. science. I'll do three runs and see what the varances are.
I had no idea you could get tar from fur. I always have sooooooo much fur and not enough to do with it. Even if it's no efficient, it's still something extra.
It works out nicely, as you can then sink your tar into Steelfire. You can also use it to make explosive jars if you're in PvP or wanna blast through Al-Merayah

@Eradicati0nn That's a great idea, I'm aware of most tricks but far from all of them I suppose.
@@jeroenlaak8714 If you do it in an improved or garrison workbench it's cut down to 1 iron bar per reinforcement.

I'm just running around the Den and claim everything related to steel. Then, I simply put all stuff I found in dismantle bench
You can get an easy sandstorm mask at darfari camp chests. One of the masks has that effect and it's not too rare.

Brimstone is easy unless you play a PvP server like me, its legit non stop PvP in that area. Have to be super sneaky when farming Brim.
Great info for the serious builder. My question is what to do with the thousands of leather I have from all that tanning.
It comes in handy when you can start making Hardened Leather for those Perfect Padding to craft Epics if you have been unlucky with drops.

i never see anyone point out that serpent hide in the tannery has a 1 to 2 ratio. 1 serpent hide gets you 2 leather when tanned. Tar also.
Thx for video.

If coal is more accessible, consider using a fluid press?
