  • In this video we explain how to use your BOLT retractable nib fountain pen. The first part of the video shows how to use the ink converter. The second part, explains how to change the silicone seal. The last part, explains how to install the optional clip.
BOLT is our new bolt-action retractable fountain pen crafted in grade-5 titanium with an innovative air-tight silicone mechanism at the tip.
    AIR-TIGHT MECHANISM
In the following video, we explain the air-tight mechanism that seals the nib from exposure to air when the pen is closed/retracted. There is a silicone seal with an 'X' cut that allows the nib to go through and naturally seals off when the nib is retracted. The mechanism has been tested for over one year and it allows the nib to remain wet for months.
    BOLT-ACTION OPERATION
For quick, one-hand operation, our pen relies on a bolt-action mechanism in which a crown at the end of the pen is pushed forward to extend the nib. As soon as the crown is moved away from the lock position, the spring automatically retracts the nib. This simple solution is ideal and has minimal components.
    GRADE-5 TITANIUM
BOLT is entirely precision-machined from grade-5 titanium for durability and lightness.
    INTERCHANGEABLE NIBS / INK CONVERTER
BOLT comes equipped with an ink converter for bottled ink. Its nib system is interchangeable and nibs in fine point and medium point will be offered. At the end of the campaign, during the survey, backers will have the option to select their desired nib and purchase additional nib systems.

I received my two pens yesterday! I ordered a fine and a medium because impulse control isn't my strong point. I love them. The medium wrote smoothly and beautifully out of the box. I'm having trouble with the Fine nib, though. It's very dry and prone to skipping on some strokes. If I hold the pen vertically to the paper, or press harder than normal it writes, but with a lot of feedback - it feels like a just-sharpened pencil. I haven't examined the nib under magnification yet or used micro mesh, but I tried Doug Rathbun's "7 steps to inky happiness" technique without much effect. I guess it's time to break out the microscope.

Not helpful to your situation, but I got mine with a fine nib, and it writes very smoothly, and almost too wet. I'm using iroshizuku ink, which is pretty wet by itself, but it doesn't feel dryer than most of my other pens.
Although, I have to admit, that the nib feels like a medium nib in every way, so I'm wondering if I might have received the wrong one. It writes roughly like a 0.7 pilot gel pen.

At 4:06, you say make sure the "Concave" portion of the seal goes in first, but the video shows the seal with the bulge facing outward towards the pen tip. Wouldn't that be the "Convex" portion goes into the pen tip first then ?

When I retract mine, the feed retracts, but the non stays behind. Any tips?

Same thing happens to one of mine (the EF nib). I contacted them today 7/30 via one of the "contact us" links from their email.

I put ink in mine and it now works fine. I guess it just needs lube.
