The Dream Pen is our first ever Kickstarter Project. The Dream Pen is not only a fountain pen but also a work of forgotten Japanese art - Urushi and Maki-e. The material of the pen is made entirely from Ebonite to the smallest part.
With the history dating back to 9000 years ago, Urushi is a beautiful Japanese art form. Unfortunately, Urushi has been almost forgotten by the young generation. Sap from lacquer trees in Japan is harvested to make Urushi. Traditional craftsmen then apply the Urushi by hands. Using only a brush, many layers of Urushi are painted on to the Ebonite material. Each creation of Urushi requires a lot of time, dedication and skills. Within various Urushi technique, Tamenuri is considered one of the highest-level technique of Urushi. The Urushi layers of Tamenuri are transparent as the water of Lake Tazawa. The Urushi coatings complement and elevate each other to create a deep, complex look of various shades. To achieve this level of sophistication, Urushi artisans must work tirelessly to polish the surface for months on end. Our True Urushi Dream Pen comes with in many colors: Urushi Black (黒), Urushi Red (赤), Urushi Blue (紺), Tamenuri (溜塗). With the help of our backers, we are able offer three more Urushi colors: Urushi Green (緑), Urushi Purple (紫), Urushi Yellow (黄).
The Dream Pen True Maki-e is made with Maki-e technique which is one of the most advanced technique of Urushi art. The Art of Maki-e is used to create a lustrous and elegant painting on the body of your pen. Artisans sprinkled gold and/or silver powder to create exquisite ornament on the Urushi layers. With Maki-e, your Dream Pen will turn into a painting that can rival the beauty of Sumi-e paintings.
With the Dream Pen, our goal is to bring back the forgotten art of Urushi and Maki-e. With the help of our backers, our Kickstarter project has been a success with funding of more than $300,000. However, that is only the beginning of our journey.

The art, the composition, the techniques, all are indeed mesmerizing. But the subtlety of appreciation is diminishing. It is indeed a blow for those craftsmen who make it a cultural heritage. I wish I could get a Urushi. Please let me know the processes to get one.

A lot of your pens are out of stock and not available
Why don’t you remove them from your website
    Or else relaunch them
I have been trying to get the True Urushi Shunkei Tamenuri CT with clip but it is perpetually out of stock

Hello there. Thank you for your comment. I am sorry to hear that, but we do our best to keep as many of our products as possible in stock; however, due to the demand and the difficulty of the process, we cannot guarantee that things will always be in stock.
I am happy to tell you that we have just restocked the Shunkei Tamenuri today, so if you are interested, you can order it from the following link: www.wancherpen.com/collections/true-urushi/products/true-urushi-shunkei-tamenuri
While I know it doesn't excuse the wait, I hope you are able to order it before it's out of stock once again. Also, don't forget - if you are a new customer, you would be eligible for a very nice discount :) Have a good day!

Thank you so much for your comment, Sam.
We believe that a fountain pen is a great investment, and so is the time and efforts to make one, especially with hand-crafted pens.
If one day you decide to purchase one of our pens, it is our greatest pleasure and we would love to have you.

I love your work and your fountain pens. I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful but your name, which is Western, sounds really horrible to Westerners. I believe if you found a better name your business would benefit greatly. With love and respect, JC fiorella, New York.
