Bought a Custin premium mainly for my senior parents. Comfort is a priority and the Custin definitely provides it about 95% of the time! My main complaint is that the 1.5L Turbo engine has a hard time on inclines. Our unit gets driven on a hilly subdivision and a multilevel carpark. From experience, once the RPMs drop while climbing, the turbo suddenly kicks in and it jerks the car almost violently. I wish that there's a way to maintain a low gear either through an L option on the transmission buttons or paddle shifters.

taiwanese motoring media suggests to use the sport mode. higher revs will simulate engine braking to some extent. the custin was extensively tested in taiwan, which has lots of hills similar to what u will find here.
@@michael677 Ok, I will consider that. Still not as reassuring as actual manual gear choice. I also noticed that the Vietnamese Custin has paddle shifters.
I'd just like to say that's not exactly right. In any car and with any transmission (except for electric cars because it works differently), engine braking does occur as soon as you release the accelerator. It's just that as you pointed out, you don't have some degree of manual control to select a lower gear where there is a greater engine braking effect. However, you can sort of trigger it by using sport mode as was mentioned, but you can simply step on the brakes, and I think you can safely assume the engine and transmission were tuned in such a way that the transmission will downshift by itself when the engine falls below a certain rpm or the car falls below a certain speed. Checking the premium variant's spec sheet, it also has Manual Speed Limit Assist and Cruise Control, both of which you can use to set a speed and the car will figure out on its own how to slow down if it detects that you will exceed the speed that you've set.
@@kevintee7445 Almost no engine braking when the transmission is at higher gears because you stepped off of the accelerator is the same as no engine braking when going down a mountain. But, I will take note of the sport mode hack.
