  • Sunday early morning drive around the main expressway circling central Paris. One of the best ways to see a new city in my opinion! Video starts in La Defense, circles Paris, and ends in La Defense.
    Starting Point: goo.gl/maps/wpqWtkYYXaHFAujm7
Paris is the capital and most populous city of France. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the world's major centers of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, gastronomy, science, and arts. The Paris Region had a GDP of €709 billion ($808 billion) in 2017. In 2021 Paris was the city with the second-highest cost of living in the world, tied with Singapore, and after Tel Aviv.

Ah, wonderful Paris! I agree with you, this is what we did when we first came to Toronto, Canada, we drove on a highway that gave us excellent views of the downtown. And then we did the same thing at night. Spectacular!

    • @quentintdn9659

I live close to Paris, and the reason why streets are empty is because where he starts and ends ( La Défense), it is a business district, so not so much residents are living in. The tallest buildings we see are mainly offices, and i can guarantee you that on weekdays, it is 10 more crowded, both on streets and roads lol. And yes the express loop around paris is indeed a modern road, as soon as you get into the center of paris, it's way more typical of european roads

I wish we had many more skyscrapers under construction at Nanterre and la Défense as a whole, and all over the outskirts of the central city, but there's always some enraged people to take bigger projects to court to have them canceled. That's a nasty attitude.
Also, the ring expressway that we call périphérique only looks like a dull highway. You can see in this video. In my dreams, it would be turned into a grand urban boulevard with plenty of skyscrapers and innovative modern buildings all along, and lots of retail and entertainment. Of course it would be slower to drive, but much more interesting and entertaining.
That would take a massive urban plan of hundreds of billion dollars, but this town could make it on the long run.
Well, in a nutshell, it's not as entirely "beautiful" as we'd like it to be. A lot of the old central city is pretty, but there's also a whole lot improvements to work on.

LAD HIC, if you're wondering that based on what you see in this video, know that this video is mostly a drive along the Boulevard Peripherique, a type of express ring road or beltway that goes around Paris' 20 districts. In the beginning, the video is a drive around La Defense business district along the Boulevard Circulaire, which isn't far from the Boulevard Peripherique. The huge number of visitors that Paris attracts are mostly going to see the landmarks, streets and neighborhoods that are mostly within the inner districts (1-7), plus areas in the 8th district mostly near the Seine River like the Champs Elysees and the high-end shops within the Golden Triangle. There are some exceptions like Montmartre that are well outside the inner districts. La Defense is also popular but tourists don't drive around it--they walk inside the quarter along the esplanade and other walkways. Outside of where tourists go, there are many beautiful streets, avenues, parks, neighborhoods where tourists rarely go. You can't see these types of places from the ring road in this video. If however you have been to Paris and still wonder why so many people go, then either you haven't seen and experienced enough (you can't really see and experience Paris in less than 3 days--there's so much to see and experience) or it's not your type of city. Not everyone likes Paris despite its popularity.
