awesome to hear. The funny thing about this channel - while it might seem like it keeps fly fishing simple and for beginners... we do the same simple things every time, consistently and while people may want things to be "more advanced or difficult" there is no need - fly fishing is simple. Remember that as you go along. Just do the simplest things consistently. Look around our IG feed as well - every fish is caught doing simple things consistently. Hope you have a great time with it!

It's neat to share with people from around the world as there are vast differences in available water and fishing types. Sharing the surroundings is neat too, as well as how we go about the habitat and fish. Glad you enjoyed it.
Sure! We didn't even notice but if that's what happened in the part of the day we shared, that's great :) It's a gorgeous location to spend the day together :)
Hi guys, thanks yes, Spring is good here in South Africa … it is often dry and rivers low in spring but we have had good rains and better than average river conditions for this time of year. Great to be back out on the rivers. Is it possible for you to post the link of this same river that you fished in the lower water conditions? Cheers
Another excellent video and tutorial on how to read water! Stunning scenery and gorgeous fish netted! Good point on how water dynamics are consistently changing rivers and streams! I see it myself when fishing the same run a year later , everything is altered by storms , flooding, ect! Again great video and tight lines!
Got out just a day before the snow and had a lot of fun in the deeper pools using the exact windows you do here to visually sight the fish. Awesome video, lovely water.
People don’t know about sight fishing windows, great term to put on the way the water flows! The river I fish can be really great if you just look for the windows, crazy what you can see.
These videos can be a great escape :) We just got our first snowflakes of fall - and then they didn't quit until they delivered 14" in the hills here. So, there you go.
Awesome video with great info as always!! Got out yesterday and caught 10 here in Idaho. Beautiful fall weather. Saw 22 wild turkeys to add to the experience!! Thanks for sharing guys!!
:) Great stuff! We got our first snowflakes of the year yesterday. Then it decided to give us 14" more! Wild turkeys are a great sight too! They start to show up in winter cattle feed fields here soon, just on the edge of aspen thickets. Neat birds aren't they?
I was chuckling while editing that one wondering who'd pick that one out. I need to come up with t-shirts to give away to people that pick up what I think is funny. I mean, the rest of the world might not think it's funny, but people who guess what I think is funny might be worth a t-shirt ;) :) Glad you enjoyed this one.
With the density of footprints indicating angling pressure coupled with the cooler weather change, I wasn't expecting a fish to rise to any big attractor pattern from those depths. The fish were glued to the deeper parts of that run and I wasn't willing to change up on that off-chance (always likely of course) of one rise when I knew I would be able to find 3 or 4 in the shallower run above the deepest parts. Hope that makes sense.
There are films by Ozzy Ozofitch (sp?) that show trout in fairly fast currents using their pectoral fins and the side of their bodies to essentially harness the river flow like a sailboat harnessing the wind. Additionally he shows how deeper sections in particular have much slower flow near the bottom even though the top of the stream is moving pretty fast. I still look for structure that breaks the current but his film shows that fish are able to find holding water where we would not expect it.
The videos you speak of and this one are conveying the same message - that one deliberately and specifically and ours somewhat passive-aggressively - that current breaks can and do occur in the most subtle of ways and yet be extreme. Each offers trout habitat and we need to adjust our thinking in order to find the fish in a stream. :)
Awesome trout fishing they were so beautiful and I just loved the scenery I recently did a trout fishing video it is so peaceful especially since I have been distracted with school love that bait that you use I have the exact same one my favourite is the lucky strike spinners thought anyway have a happy Halloween!!
Hey, guys. I'm a hydrologist. One of the primary drivers of changing streamflow readings and their correlations is that the gauges are based on a rating curve. Essentially, the flow through a cross-section of river is based on the shape of the cross-section and the height of the water. Freshet and other flood events can change the cross-section at or near the gauging stations, which then changes the rating curve and gives different flow correlations as a result. The flow through the system is largely the same (though climate change is having an effect), but the relationship used to report the flows doesn't hold anymore. Another possibility is that the pressure transducer at the gauge has been moved up or down in the water column because of debris/changing conditions. As a result, the depth reported is different and the flow is as well. You're not crazy, it's just that the river changes through time and during major events. We need to be constantly monitoring the situation at our gauges for this reason. Tight lines.
Hiya. If you heard me pause in the video there was a reason for that - white space / aka air time in a TH-cam video. What you wrote is exactly it, but how do you put that into a TH-cam video and have it flow with the fishing that the viewers want? That's the consideration. Internet time is no different than inches or % white space in a magazine layout. I made a split second decision to just leave it as I said it. There's a million subtle points out there but how far do we take them and can we take them in various media? The biggest thing was to point out that the flow readings change after high flows change the substrate - be it that the old location is high & dry or the dynamics of gravel shifts focus channels or flow this way or that... and most importantly, not to get married to how we think of flow as absolute because nothing is further from the truth. Hope you can appreciate the media/audience/attention span aspect. :) Cheers
