Hopper fishing is my favorite time of the year . Unfortunately the water is so warm in NH right now catch in release is more like catch and kill. I haven’t fished in 2 weeks, hopefully we get some rain and cold nights soon. Thanks for the video it relieved the fix a little.
Aw man, seriously good decision on that. We were teetering around here until we had a massive change to much, much cooler weather. Think 90s to 40s. Here's hoping yours turns around soon so you can get in on a great fall season. 🍻
Trout are such a beautiful and vibrant colored fish I love fly fishing for them on a dry fly like I have done in some of my videos and there’s not many species as beautiful as a trout!
Love it..finally got to great piece of water due to lower (maybe) water. All of a sudden, risers due to the wind, risers in a 'non place' got me 8 on hook, none into the net.
Until you hook into that 30+" behemoth!!! :) But definitely the best kind of fishing there is - smacking the banks and either an explosion or the subtle sip from a big head with lips :)
Great video and fun to fish those hoppers and beetles. Dave, when you are mending in the faster water are you also trying to give the hopper or beetle a bit of action or are you trying to maintain a dead drift. BTW, Kudos to Amelia for the intro footage, simply beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it all. Those blue beetles - hadn't seen those ones before so it was neat to stumble upon them 😊 And truth be told I'm always doing something deliberate with the line or planning ahead to the hook set, etc... so yes when it's drifting I try to mend at a rhythm to meet the space of twitching. When the inevitable cross river bowing occurs I use the drag to pulse twitch the last of the drift.
Love your videos, your photography challenges the best out there in the fly fishing scene. in the warmer weather it appears the you rarely use chest waders. Are you using a wader pant or wet wading with a quick dry pant material? Thanks in advance. Man I'm learning lots, just started FF a year ago at age 65.
Hi & thank you for that. Best is that you enjoy our shares, that's great to hear. Simple stuff but if it puts you out there on the water with us, mission accomplished! :) We wear waders spring and fall or in cold weather. The past couple years around SW Alberta have been anything but cold nor wet. I use the Orvis Pro Lt Field Hunting Pant. Best quick dry pants I've come across. Light, durable, tough in the brambles. :) 65 is a perfect time to get into fly fishing. Have fun with it. Keep it adventurous and fun. Zone in where you want to but otherwise keep it light and prospecting the first while and just have fun with it :)
Thank you for the video - do you mind sharing: -> example or link of the hopper pattern? -> example or link of the beetle pattern? -> where about's you were fishing?
That's just a pattern of our own, with no particular name. Nothing special but definitely worth putting some poly into the wing in under the deer hair to help with keeping it floating for longer if you look to tying your own. We're in Alberta.
👍👍 Let me guess your in Canada A! ?😁 I've been Flyfishing and tying for 55 years grasshoppers are one of my favert flys.!!! To fish and tye. Slap the water and the trout come out of the depths to slap it back! 😜😂 Beadhead Copper Johns all diffrent colors!!! 👍👍 ✌️
Likely a minimum of 5 minutes even if it rises straight away.... 5 minutes after it starts feeding action or loosens up again (where you can see the fish).
It depends a bit on the weather, but we use a mix of this one (Waterproof backpack from Orvis) bit.ly/3hcVTj5 and in this video we're using an older style safe passage backpack from Orvis.
Another beautifully filmed and educational video. If I may a non-fishing question. At the beginning there is a beautiful yellow-bodied black winged bird taking bugs I think. I have never seen that bird before; do you know what it is?
Thanks all round to that - pretty sure that's an American Goldfinch. They flutter about the willows, alders & saskatoons. They never let you get too close but a beautiful bird for sure :)
I actually learnt that Chinook had two meanings one the fish the other a warm prairie breeze and never forgot it. That was over 50 years ago, pretty random thing to learn down under.
All round? I'd have to say the Blackout. You can beef it up, over dress it and just pause & lean into it a little more. Dry fly or short distance-centric? H3F. But all around the nod to the blackout. 🍻🎯
Great to hear you enjoy 'em. We're always within an inch on the eyeball, but truth is size means absolutely nothing to us, really, given the sheer # of fish we've enjoyed through the decades - it's only ever really relevant to the water you fish and thing like coloration or location fished or the visuals on the take are so much more valuable to us 😍😍🍻👍
We do have to catch ourselves on any size comments! Sorry. Reality is that our home region and NZ has some bigger fish and we'll get into those come winter on the channel!
Well... in life we tend to focus on what we don't have rather than the value of what we do have. The good news is that we're squirreling out best content to release over the winter. It's going to be a fairly good season of editing ahead 😊🍻
wonderful, I feel like I am the one who is fishing, the flowers, the insects and the music. thanks guys, keep it up. A hug
All great to hear and thank you for sharing that. Glad you enjoy our simple shares 🍻😊
the best videos, beautiful nature and good fishing methods make me always watch videos on your channel. good job my friend.
Wonderful to hear. Thank you. And thank you for stopping in as often as you do to watch our videos 😊🍻
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your acknowledgement of our efforts in this video. We hugely appreciate it:)
Thanks guys, great lockdown viewing. 🙏
Incredible we're still at this point isn't it? Glad you enjoyed it and hope things turn with more vaccinations in the coming months 🍻♥️
Lots of learning seeing the water through your eyes. Many thanks :)
Glad to hear our shares help. Hope the rest of the season is good to you!
Hopper fly fishing is just incredible! Do you guys ever do like small stream hopper fishing? I do a lot of that and it's great! 😁
Do that a ton - nothing better! Nothing! 😊♥️

Nice video, really enjoyed that guys, tight lines from Scotland.
Thanks for stopping in to comment and hope all is well in your neck of the woods.😊

The trout family has many beautiful species doesn't it? ♥️🍻
@@jensenflyfishing my favourite are brook trout or a huge laker
Awesome video guys thanks for sharing I'm learning a lot from you guys. God bless
Great to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!

Isn't that the best? Love those kind of days. Dropping fish is a little disappointing but the success of finding them and getting takes is 🎯🥳
Excellent as usual! On a side note, love that you chose the mandolin into stuff! Yeah, I know I’m biased but still... 😉 Great work, guys!
Ha! Biases are good, right? 😊 glad you enjoyed it
great video! love the brown trout videos they’re awesome!
Perfect as we've got a fair number of those kind to come!😊
Really enjoy your videos 🎣
Thank you😊
Love the video- my favourite style of late summer fishing on small creeks with my 3 weight.
Until you hook into that 30+" behemoth!!! :) But definitely the best kind of fishing there is - smacking the banks and either an explosion or the subtle sip from a big head with lips :)
Amazing videos keep them coming lol
Oh, there's heaps to come yet! 😊🍻♥️
Great intro music!
Thanks! 🍻

nothing more fun than trout willing to travel to smack hoppers, beetles, cicadas, stoneflies... make it big and SMACK! :)
When you are “resting” the fish before casting again, how long do you guys typically wait? Thanks in advance! Love the videos
Likely a minimum of 5 minutes even if it rises straight away.... 5 minutes after it starts feeding action or loosens up again (where you can see the fish).
What fly fishing backpack do you use?

@@jensenflyfishing Thanks. I live in Southern California and have never seen one. After reviewing the literature on line I'm sure you are right.
They are gorgeous. They seem to show up early June around here and love it when they do.
How’s that Orvis Pro Trout turn over bigger hoppers?
Really well
I whant that hopper pattern she showed in a tying tutorial!
#winter 🥳🎯
That could have been North Canterbury to look at, uncanny how similar enjoyed that.
Isn't it? So many similarities around here... even just call a Nor'Wester a Chinook and away you go about as often! 🤣🎯
I actually learnt that Chinook had two meanings one the fish the other a warm prairie breeze and never forgot it. That was over 50 years ago, pretty random thing to learn down under.
Better all around stick: 9' 5wt 3F or blackout 5wt

Love the videos! Y’all are the best! But I think your 22-23 inchers are more like 18 inchers but I’ll cut you some slack since your from Canada 😂

Stop saying they are small fish. To some of us those small fish are trophies LOL!! I love hopper eats!!
We do have to catch ourselves on any size comments! Sorry. Reality is that our home region and NZ has some bigger fish and we'll get into those come winter on the channel!
@@jensenflyfishing No worries. But some of those brownies were big lol!! At least to me and very fun to catch.
Not jamming you guys...but fish away with your knowledge. Drones....eeerrhhmm?
