    I’ve had mine for 6 yrs and is definitely my favorite fish. She lives with a gold severum and a chalceus. I tried keeping pristella tetras when they were smaller but they were all eaten! They are great fish- very intelligent and mostly peaceful, but mine is definitely the boss of the tank.

      Another one who keeps a fish that needs a group of the same kind to feel safe, by itself!! Why do Americans not do research about fish and pets in general? Are they just extra lazy?!

    I have a group of 6 and they are my current favourite fish. But they are a bit more sensitive when they are small, I had another group of 5 that were doing very well but they all died while I was out of country, they person taking care of them overfed that tank way too much. Other than that very hardy intelligent fish, good eaters and can be very beautiful depending on age and genetics

    Hi Isabella, have just stumbled across your channel, very impressive. Thank you for a very interesting video on Uaru, l have always loved these fish but ruled them out of my wish list for my newly set up 600g tank due to their high temperature requirements. My other fish wouldn't thrive in the high 20's plus heating a 600g to those temperatures in the UK is problematic, well l mean expensive! Your fish look fantastic & 25°C would be perfect for me. Am excited, thanks again. Paul

      @@paulcox4369 heating big tanks in the uk is a joke ...at 25-26 my heaters are barely on and why ive always avoided discus ...heating a 1000 litre plus tank to a constant 30-31my old tank was about 1700 litres let alone your 600 gallon is ridiculous and the heaters always seem to straining

    • @paulcox4369
      @paulcox4369 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gbonejohn1974 l agree, l used to keep discus in my 1,000 L system & moved away from them for that reason. When l built my 2,400L tank out of plywood l heavily insulated it & installed a constant drip WC system. My water is from a spring & in winter l use water from my hot water system, this keeps the tank at 25°C. As the water is heated by my wood burning stove & l have a wood the cost is small, if l try & raise tempreture drip water change system won't do it & heaters kick in & you are right heating that amount of water to 30°C is very expensive, as it is when l go away!

    Doesn't the rocks you have in their make the water too hard for these? They come from waters that is rather soft...They need to chew on wood. And you need the right kind of wood, so it wont fall apart! People, do some research before putting out videos about your pets!!!

I really like oscars, nicaraguensis, key holes, convicts that kinda thing. as for poor man's discus I really prefer these uaru to discus. amphiacanthoides is the word you were looking for lol. I know you mentioned it doesn’t matter about the PH but these are wild caught, and the manager there was telling me I need to quarantine them to acclimate then to the PH. I’ve never done this before, my PH on all my tanks are 7.4, will it be a problem
