I hope I can chime in here without being figured out(just in case) I'm from a BIG BIG CITY North of your town. Think really big and not East. Anyway, I met a girl who was living in my city at the time. We dated for some time and her personality was just different. Different then the girls I was meeting at the time. One day she came to me and told me she had to move back home. That is your town, Aurora. I always thought I was just a City guy, Iron Jungle etc...... We stayed together a I decided I would do everything to make a long distance relationship work. At least thats what I really wanted. The first time I drove down to see her and stay for a week, I left kinda late in the afternoon which without GPS and the direction she gave me, put me in Batesville around 11PM. Taking the "back roads" that late without ever driving there before and little cell service(7 years ago) made for a very dark and exciting drive from Batesville to Aurora. I went through Milan, Moores Hill and some other tiny towns. She said keep going til ya hit the river, you'll see it....Lol. I did and the next morning I woke up to the most beautiful view of the Ohio river and Kentucky. WOW. River boats and tugs. Hawks overhead and the smell of clean air. Her family was beyond wonderful. Walking through the down town was amazing. Schucks and the hippie store. The little grocery with a in house butcher(i forgot the name) Emily Roses florist was awesome. EVERYONE I met was unbelievably nice and relaxed. People held doors for me and seniors. Kids left bikes on the lawn. The gas station guys I got to know. Always friendly. I had my first Frisches Big Boy(THE BEST) and my first Penn Station.......Yummy. Gold Star and Skyline chili not my fav but not bad. Needless to say, I fell in deep LOVE with her and the people and the the land. Ohio/Kentucky/Indiana....the Tri-State. I was making frequent journy's monthly(2x) for quite a few months. Hillforest mansion was beautiful and the grave of William Henry Harrison in North Bend Ohio was so impacting. I NEVER felt more American in my life. The Church steeples the hilly landscape. EVERYTHING screamed to me as my home. To bring my story to a quick end. She left me. It was my fault because I missed her so much, I created a insecurity inside myself that bred angry jealousy(NOT violent) I mistrusted her when I shouldn't have. I drove her away. I used to cry sometimes when I had to leave from my visits. Even after all this I decided that one day when possible, I would be back to live/retire there. I would even consider Rising Sun. I miss the place and the people. I was able to figure out that even though I missed her, I also missed the town and the people. Aurora is Americana. Listening to some country music on my drives down are great experiances in my life. I never thought I'd like the smell of cow shit. I do. LOL. I hope to be your neighbor sometime soon. I hope my ex-girlfriend is happy and doing well. I hope there's a single woman down there for me so I can have the life I'd really love to have. The river, me, my dog, my bike and a new girl with that semi-southern hospitality is my American dream. I will have it. God Bless Aurora and it's people. Thanks for making me feel it again. Your future neighbor/Patriot and general helping hand. Miss ya all just like Florence Y'all lol. Take care.
