Oh, it's freaky. My step dad was stabbed 62 times. I couldn't go in his place for a few days as they cleaned the place. When I was finally able to go in, there was a massive hole in the floor where they had to remove floorboards that were soaked in blood and had stab marks and the killer stabbed through him into the floor. Spent hours cleaning sex toys and drug paraphernalia while seeing insane notes and shit everywhere.

He called my mom a few months before and left a voicemail leaving like his last will and testament because he knew his girlfriend was going to kill him... and he stayed. It depends, of course, but if the perpetrator, the killed used some blunt weapon, or a knife, or something that can do a pot of damage to a body...well, it is terrible, and one piece of advice to officers who go is that if they get the urge to puke, to do that as far away from the scene. Sometimes it is an incredible mess, and years of seeing such things will desensitize you, but never to a level when you will not be affected in some way. And if it is not discovered fast, the smell... There are no words that can describe smells, but it is disgusting. If someone wonders, a lot of blood smells something like copper... Blood contains Fe2+, but that smell is actually derived from the skin's fatty chemicals.
One of the most disturbing things found at a crime scene in my opinion is the letter Albert Fish sent to the parents of one of his victims, Grace Budd. In 1928, under the name of Frank Howard, Fish befriended the Budd family, offering Edward Budd a job on his farm in Long Island. He also claimed that his sister was having a party and suggested that the Budds' daughter, twelve year old Grace, go with him to attend. The Budds agreed. In 1934, Fish then sent a letter to the Budd family, going into great detail about how he had killed, dismembered, cooked, and ate their daughter. The police managed to trace the letter, and Fish was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to death. Fish had a habit of sticking various metal objects into his body, and it's said that when he was put to death in the electric chair, the chair actually short-circuited on the first attempt because of all the metal in his body.

Albert's former roommate had 'appropriated' the paper, and Fish had used it. From that, the police got his name. Definitely an odd duck. 8:57 i think that, far creepier than these writings, are the cases in which the victim has written the name of her murderer with her last bit of energy and will. There are three cases of which I am aware, all women who were sexually assaulted and then beaten to death by men who were known to them. These women used up the last of their very breaths to write those names… and in two cases, it still took 20+ years to solve the murders.
Just watched a Ed gein doc that showed the house, the victims, and some audio of Gein. He should always be number 1 on a list due to the fact of how many movies are inspired by his gruesome acts. Even the Terrifier movie took inspiration from him!

Scariest thing I could probably imagine is a crime being committed at a friend/family member's house and they find a photo on the scene of you asleep in your room, but you live somewhere else and it looks like the picture was taken by someone standing *_in_* the room rather than at a window.
Not mentioned in #18 (The Oklahoma Girl Scout murders): A suspect named Gene Leroy Hart (already sentenced to 300+ years for unrelated sex crimes against two [adult] pregnant women and a county jail escapee----the same county where the camp was located [Mayes County, Oklahoma, which is about 40 miles east of Tulsa]) was suspected of the killings but acquitted in March 1979. He died of a heart attack three months later at age 35. To this day, the camp has never reopened.

She was already apprehended and in custody and in court that day, everything that I can find on that topic all say "For some reason, unknown to this day, their pictures were brought into evidence and the jury was made to view them."
