I was there to celebrate MahashivRatri , specially booked a air ticket (5 months advance) all the way from Rajasthan to Tamil Nadu. For this night, I did yoga for 3 months (2.5 hours daily) before this event, just to improve my receptivity so that spiritual energy could upsurge within my body on this auspicious night. 😊
MahaShivratri is a grand festival being celebrated as marriage of lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. It's is biggest festival of Kashmiri Pandits, who celebrate in a very huge way.

Shivratri means shiv is lord shiva and ratri means night. So it is basically a night of lord shiva. On this night lord shiva was married to mother goddess Parvati.

We will do fasting as well as 'jagaram (Telugu) which means we will stay awake whole night without sleeping and pray lord shiv the entire night. It is believed that lord Shiva's blessings will be there on the people who will do fasting and jagaram. Glad to hear Tamil, telugu and kannada words also along with hindi in this video.

On this shivaratri in temples Abhisheka that is offering or pouring to the Linga that is shiva like milk, curd, ghee, butter, banana sliced, sugar, turmeric water, kunkum water, sandalwood paste, honey, Rosewater or coconut water, vibhuthi a holy powder and many other thing will be poured on to shiva Linga and humans perform fasting which helps in restoring the immunity carried along with "Jagarne" that is without sleeping at night, as it is the day where Lord shiva and Parvathi got married and also "On this night, the northern hemisphere of the planet is positioned in such a way that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human being. This is a day when nature is pushing one towards one’s spiritual peak. It is to make use of this, that in this tradition, we established a certain festival which is nightlong. To allow this natural upsurge of energies to find their way,one of the fundamentals of this nightlong festival is to ensure that you remain awake with your spine vertical throughout the night."
