Inspiring. I did my first little 2" Lino block print, and can't wait to do more. I love finding ways to solve problems and make tools with things on hand. 2 color will be my next project. Thanks!
So useful!!! Thanks for such a straight forward explanation of registration and a cheap way of achieving it - no special equipment needed, brilliant! I'll probably draw a wee arrow on the back of my pages, pointing towards the right angle card to prevent any chance of printing in the wrong direction☺️
Just starting up in this great hobby! Really enjoyed your vid. Lovely narration and clear instructions. Wish me luck! Good luck with finishing your run? Sounds very interesting!
They're great - got a packet of love heart sweets packed in my last order! Alfreshco spray paint company take top prize though - you get loads of extra goodies in your order chocolate, stickers, line drawings of train carriages to design on... they sell great paint at great prices too!
Hey! You could just come to DFW Texas and do a demo with ME!!! Ha-ha! I don't have filming equipment, but there are people here you could get for that. I love the boots!
Hi Tricia, a pleasure. printmaking can be a bit equipment intensive and costly so any tips to cut costs I am happy to share. Caligo ink dries pretty quickly - the second, third etc layers take longer obviously. just hang em on a line or tape the to cupboards for a couple of days and they'll be dry
Dear Yeates Makes Thank you for your advice! You are so helpful! and guess what? I have a friend in Australia (I am in Vancouver, Canada) and we were texting the other day when I mentioned I wanted to play with my gelli plate and her response was that she did also and really found the Yeates Makes TH-cam videos helpful! So, you are impacting makers around the world! Thank you for your generosity! Question: I am covetting the really skinny roller your partner gave you! Do you know where it is from? or the brand? Thank you, Barb
Hi Barb, lovely comment thanks. I pinned a link to where the thin roller came from on my 'Big Gel plate - 1st impressions' video. Should be easy to find on the channel. Still haven't got used to all these amazing comments from all over the world, YoutTube is a great way to get an encouraging community together : )
Really useful tips, thanks! I get really confused with reduction prints. Do you have any tips about how to work out the order that you cut away when you have your design worked out? I may be over thinking it but I normally end up making several plates instead.
The best way to start is with a 2 colour. Draw your design with clear areas of black, midtones and white. Carve away what you want white - print onto white paper in the colour you want the midtone. then carve away the midtone and print back over your print in black. Hope that makes sense : )
I do have a few questions. Did you do a series of this print, or just the one-off? If so, how many did you end up with in the end, and did you keep a "Progressive Suite" of your layers? (Get me! I'm learning about printmaking on TH-cam!)
Has anyone ever used this in the classroom setting? I'll have about 60 students doing reduction lino cuts and I'm wondering if every kid has to make their own registration or if I can reuse the registration for my different classes.
Mary Beth Shaw of Stencil Girl highlighted your wordle post on her monthly blog, congratulations you deserve the publicity, love your work!!!
Hi Janet, thanks for letting me know. I wasn't aware of Mary Beth or Stencil Girl. : )

@@yeatesmakes lol.... Oooooh.... Chocolate?! 🍫🤩
thanks for this video! can you describe your lino cleaning and drying process when changing colors for each reduction?
So, you could also use the remaining reduction for the black layer on your gel plate ... wonderful and would love to see the series.
Cheers, I'll get round to a colour reduction rubbing soon. :)
Great tips!
Cheers Sa, hope they help : )

I love the boots!
LOL! Texas a long from from east england!!!
I have used some right angle mat board taken out of "thrift store art" to make registration jigs.
: ) we love home spun, much more rewarding!!!!
Brilliant - thankyou so much for the ‘registering’ tips. Does the calico ink dry quickly? TIA

Great short video, what Lino you are using, guessing it’s Japanese Lino? Happy new year to you.
Lino is just safe cut, really easy to cut but you don't get the delicacy and range of marks possible with hessian backed battleship stuff.
el mejor sistema!
gracias : )

I printed an edition of 10 from this, with a few 'proof' copies : )
Will this work on an etching press too?
Has anyone ever used this in the classroom setting? I'll have about 60 students doing reduction lino cuts and I'm wondering if every kid has to make their own registration or if I can reuse the registration for my different classes.
Is there anything you do to prevent paint marks outside the borders of your print?
I guess just making sure you've reduced the block right down where you don't want marks then being really vigilant about clean fingers!!!!
Interesting!! Why is it called colour "reduction"?
LOL never mind - I figured it out...hadn't watched enough of the video when I asked.
Supercool :)
