Thank you for this video journey! I appreciate you taking the time! I've got my first one ready to kit up and will be starting soon, excited to hear your tips
Thank you Ann for this video. Your stitching so far looks lovely. I ordered the chart after seeing this on your Floss tube Chanel .This will be my first Chatelaine. I will be ordering the kit later so it was nice to see all the different colours that will be used. Unfortunately I already ordered my fabric from PTP and went for a 32 count Laguna. I never gave a thought to shrinkage so I hope this will be ok. I am so looking forward to your updates.
Linda: Thanks so much for your kind comment. You should likely be okay with the 32-count. I think the only place that might get a bit tight is the snake - the beads are packed in there pretty tightly, but I believe you can leave a few out here and there to make them fit better and no one would be the wiser. I'll try to remember to do a special focus on that corner when I get there, in the hopes of showing you how it will look there. I hope you'll enjoy working on yours - I'm loving mine so far!
Hi Anne, I am new sub and what a great find.,, thank you for this tutorial as I am yet to stitch one and was abit afraid to do so but with your tutorial, think I am more confident to get the Chinese Garden to do! Thank you so much and look forward to your future videos!
Hello - thank you so much for your kind comment! :) It's mostly about breaking them down, step by step - otherwise, they seem pretty scary but they aren't once you get going on them and just go slowly and carefully through the instructions. I haven't stitched Chinese Garden (although it's beautiful! great choice!) but I'll be happy to try to answer any questions you have if you decide to go for it! :)
Oh thank you so much.. I will remember your kind help, I am still working on my King Henry VIII 1 over 1 once I am done, I will definitely come back for your kind advise..thank you so much x
Thanks Anne, that's really helpful, i've been looking at chatelaines lately trying to see which one i would really want to do :) Look forward to any new hints and tips on chatelaines and would love to know how you're experiencing the actual stitching on it. Is it what you expected? xx
You are very welcome and I'm glad you found it helpful. I will definitely include some other tidbits about the stitching as I go along. I'm making myself a note right now so I remember to touch on that for you in my August vlog!
I'm so glad you're posting this diary of your chatelaine. This is one I'd very much like to do since I live in the high desert (Mojave) of NV. The creatures are very realistic which is rare to find in desert themed charts or kits. I'll eagerly wait for your videos on this chatelaine. I wonder if you could possibly list the "must have" variegated silks that can't be substituted with DMC? Like you showed in the first part you stitched that some of the dark sky could be DMC rather than the silk? Is that clear as mud? I'm trying to kit this myself as I have to go about this on a monthly basis as I can't afford the full kit up front. Thanks.
I'm hopeful you'll find it helpful! I certainly can make up a list as I go - totally clear. Some of them I won't know for sure until I reach that part of the design and have actually included them in the stitching, but I will be glad to work up a list as I go. I just need to think a bit on where the best place to put that info might be so it's easy to find. Would you find that an updated list on a blog page would work? I was thrilled to find one that illustrates the high desert so well. I think Martina did a great job with this design - it's so evocative!
Such a feast for the eyes!! Thank you for sharing your materials and the start of your stitching. I'm curious to see how many brands my LNS carries, so that hopefully I can kit it up there and save on shipping. I'm curious about Caron Waterlilies in cotton! I didn't know they made that - does it have a different name? Also, I noticed you're using Lugana. I hadn't really considered a high count evenweave, but that makes sense, because of the one over one that's required. Lots to mull over! Thanks again for your insights from jumping in the pool first!
You are welcome! It's Caron Watercolours. Those are the Pima cotton skeins. They also dye up Wildflowers, but it's much more matte and doesn't really look very silk-like, IMHO. I think 123stitch carries at least the Watercolours, but if you'd like to try some, let me know - I have a couple of skeins of it (and I have a Caron wholesale account where I could order you anything you wanted, FWIW).
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. This winter sampler looks like it doesn't actually use any of the Caron threads, but I think the Summer version has one, if I get around to doing that one later. I'll see if my LNS carries any of those threads also. They seems to have pretty decent prices, and there's no shipping, so I'd like to get as much there as I can. GAST threads are only $2 there, which is all I've ever purchased from them, but that seems very reasonable.
Your mandala is exquisite!
Thanks so much - I'm really enjoying it :)
Great start on your lovely Chatelaine. Love the style of your vlog, it's going to be so interesting watching the piece develop.
Thank you so much! It's such a fun project - I'm really enjoying it!

Thanks for watching, Anna - and I hope you find some helpful hints as I go along! :)
Thanks for sharing all this information. It helped me plan out my 2018 project.
You are very welcome, Lynne and I'm glad it helped! :)

Ditto for Ingeborg!
Duly noted. :) I'll do my best. Hope you love the mini you got!
Couldn't stand it...just bought and downloaded "Violet Baskets and Toys" - to play with her mini mandelas....
