Film advance problem in Nikon FM (maybe some stuck parts)

  • In this video about the Nikon FM, I will show what was wrong with the film advance, it was the small part under the film advance gear that sometimes get stuck and prevent the film to be advance. So I took it apart and clean it with lighter fluid, then put it back in, but without the use of any oil..., I think it has to run without lube because the use of 2 different materials (Maybe I'm wrong, but it work's perfect :-)
    In this film I also show a small invention, A flathead screw driver that I turn into be a great tool to unscrew a stripped crosshead screw

    Thanks so much for this video, it helped me save the Nikon FE that I have been using for the last 35 years, and it was old when I got it!

    Thank you! Your video helped me fix a different issue with Nikon FE. I originally thought I had the same film advance problem that is in your video. However, I had a different problem. I discovered my issue at 9:05 in your video. There is a piece that slides up and down as the shutter release is pressed and released. Mine was stuck and was stopping the film from advancing. I found that I could push it manually and reset the shutter release. I put one drop of synthetic lubricant and within minutes it was working perfectly again. I would never have discovered and fixed my issue without your video. Thanks again.

    I have one more question about FM2, when using speed upper than 1/500 to 1/4000 shutter curtain it's not open properly. How I can fix this issue.

    Thanks for showing the repair. After seeing how the parts work from your video, I sprayed WD40 into then motor film advance knob from the outside with the camera upside down.. After one minute, the lever works. No WD40 leaks inside the film area.

      Hello, did you put wd40 on an FM or FM2? My FM2 does not clog at very low speeds. Did you have to remove the pieces as seen in the video or did you just spray wd40 on those pieces? thank you

    I had the same issue with a Nikon FM but the internals looked a little different from this one?!
    My brass disconnect lever for the wind-on looked the same as the later Fm2n instead of the stainless lever that goes under the winder spool like seen on the camera in this video.
    In any case, every time I took the bottom off it worked perfectly and then I realized that there was a small dent in the base plate!
    This tiny indentation was enough to put pressure on the disconnect lever underneath it and cause binding- a few taps on the bas plate and it's been perfect ever since!

      Morale of the story- don't start pulling shit apart until you have a really good look at it!

    Help! I cant press the rewind button! I was advancing my film up to 36 but the lever stopped halfway. I know that this means that i have used up all the exposures. But now i cant rewind it because of this. Got any fix? Thank you in advance!
    EDIT: Using Nikon F2

    I got yashica tl electro x. All working fine, except for the lever transport. So every time i move and release the lever, shutter release immediately without even pressing the shutter button. Can you tell me what is wrong with my camera?
    Sorry for my bad english. Looking forward to hear from you. Thank You

    Thanks for this new good explanation!
    Perhaps with a bit more film resolution (it seems to be made only at 350 p), we could better appreciate the gear details, for example the excentricity; at this resolution i'm not capable to see it correctly.

      Problem solved! Now I can see the video at high resolution, till 1080 p (HD). I don't know why, but before I was only capable to see it at 350 p. Thanks for your atention. :-D

    Hello! I have the FM2 with this annoying issue, most of the time works good and some random times it gets stuck and I have to shake the lever. I made some research and found out that the brass piece you cleaned is to fine tune the position of the pendulum/eccentric. Could this information be right? I'm planning to have a look at it this week

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be the little brass piece that need to be cleanede, but it could also be the eccentric part that is worn out. Just some ideas.

    Thanks for your video, so i break the bottom coupling screw head (min 7.24) do you know any screw form another part can be fit it or how long of screw thread may i can find from my another broken Fm10 screw to instead, i can't measure my screw because after i brake it i did tighten back to the place and leave it. please advise thanks

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a shame, but you could find another not working Nikon camera, maybe in a second hand shop and simply take the screws from that as a "spare" camera.

    Can you still do this if there is film in the camera when doing it?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because you have to work with the mechanical parts inside the camera.

      Thank's Peter, I have no idea where to get new part's and screws but if you can get an old worn out donor camera from the flee market or second hand shop, that's what I do when I need new/old. parts

    Hi. My nikon fm, the shutter was stuck like its lock. I cannot press it at all. Then, the cock shutter was loose and does not advance the film spool at all. Any advice?

  • @oalvarado7
    @oalvarado7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My issue is: the film advance doesn’t lock after the advance of the film, instead it will keep advancing even if the shutter doesn’t get pressed, as you could imagine, this is not good if you forget you have already advanced or if you think you already have and make multiple exposures one the same frame. Does anyone else have this issue?
