This old church saw a lot of action in its day! I wonder how far away people lived and what it took to get there. I was imagining all of the Easter services that went on there. Adults and children dressed to the nines!

I like how the flooring still had a shine to it. This house is just waiting for a new congregation to start singing the old hymns again.

I am excited to see that others care about this old building, and it seems we are possible relatives. I just heard about your site Friday night from a distant relative in Texas. My grandmother was the last active member of this church and I too have quite a few ancestors buried there. I remember attending services there as a child with my grandparents. I have items in my possession that I am sure you would be interested in tied to this church. Susan Smith DeVane

When all the old buildings are gone there will be nothing left for the youth
of the future to relate to.
Great video, just so dismayed that the church has suffered from vandalism .

Just imagine all the old revivals that went on in that church. I know it's a building and the church moved on, but in needs to be restored as a historical landmark. It could be rented out for receptions weddings....

There is an old house from the 1830s that our community loved so they formed a volunteer group and a trust for the home. They eventually bought it and now its been structurally repaired and partly restored. You can tour it for $7 and the grounds are a park.
Im just saying if you love a structure, you cant wait around for someone to save it, you have to act fast and it takes a lot of money so you need help. People will help but nobody wants to take something like that on by themselves. Churches would help you to.

Lovely little church it amazes me all the beautiful places you find off the beaten track and the real history about real ordinary Americans and the life they led not as is so often the case only focussing on the wealthy few. I love the exploration your channel encapsulates and the obvious love, interest and fascination you have for your stories. It’s a window into a part of the world I wouldn’t have been able to explore without your stories. Warmest Best Regards from Chesterfield England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

It's fascinating watching this video again. Brian, regarding old buildings holding on to distinctive smells, I have a memory of that. My husband and I were Mission hopping in CA (took several years), and I remember going into what was the entry room, staffed, that had a distinct grape/wine smell. I asked the staffer if we could watch the wine being brewed and she looked at me funny. She said that wine hadn't been brewed for 150 years, but the winery was the large room next to the one we were in. She said once in a while someone could smell the brewing but she never had. Neither did my husband. I was utterly charmed by that.

I know that the Sidestep Adventures crew aren’t looking to impoverish themselves by fixing up the buildings they share with us, but some folks in my hometown of Issaquah Washington saved many of the town’s historic structures in a way that was clever and profitable. They moved the structures to a pretty location off of a main drag. They restored the structures and rented them out as little shops. The structures are saved, little signs tell you about the history. People can go inside and shop or eat at one of the small restaurants amid the charm of the history of the place. And they produce revenue. It is called Gilman Village. www.gilmanvillage.com/about_a001.php3

Another great video. I'm from north central Indiana and up here you almost never see a rural building that is that old. I think between population density and climate, buildings don't stay that long. If something isn't used for a few years It's torn down and replaced, lost forever.
Another reason is snow. When snow melts the moisture slowly creeps into the wood, only to freeze and melt again. Much more destructive than rain.

Robert I love your videos, history of and your personal reflections of places you visit and document in Georgia and Alabama and I find myself wishing that I had grown up in and would be living in that area: it's beautiful and peaceful country. I especially like it when a place you're documenting is a part of your own, personal history such as this amazing church. I like the way you feel about old, abandoned buildings, I'm the same way. I can't look at an old abandoned building be it a former home, grocery store or etc. and not wonder what the people were like that lived in that home or used that grocery store. I wonder how hard their lives were, how many children did they have, were they happy, did they live long or was their life one of tragedy. There are a couple of things I'm left wondering about from this video. What happened to the people of that church? Did they move to a new building abandoning this one, or did the congregation break up and disband? How far did you live from this church growing up? Make it three questions, I have another. The end of this video seems to be cut off. You were starting to say that this building was originally a 2 story building and it wasn't built as a church but some other use. So the year 1835, is that when the building was first build for it's original purpose or is that when it became a church? If that is the date the building was originally built, in what year did it become a church?

I am surprised that no body is using the land. Of course, with a cemetery on it, there are complications. Still, land is valuable. Trees reproduce naturally. In that period of time, I am rather surprised that trees are not growing over the entire property. Somebody must be cutting down new tree growth.

It would help save the 200 years old church. Maybe help it last another 100 years. It would be a waste to see it disappear.

I would absolutely love to. But unfortunately I have no idea who owns the church, even after searching through tax records. It appears the land is currently held tied up in an estate. I’m not sure what the legalities are since it used to be a church and has a cemetery right outside the front door. I’m assuming the church no longer owns it.

Why are place like this or any other place for gotten, once these place had life with in them now nature take our. This building was here in the 1800 years and why do we let them just vanished. It’s history it’s about life the times now look what people do they write graffiti they tears up places like this why?😞 I have always believe just cause things get old why tear them down I’m talking about 50,100,200 plus years old torn down and once they are they can never be restored. In Ft Worth TX we had the most beautiful theatre, Beautiful red carpet beautiful marble floors, pillars inside almost like Romans use in their palace, it was stunning but some torn down fir parlors two were kept but redone on the inside and out and does not even look even close to what it look like. Guess when it’s my time I’ll be just dust in the win. Great video guys has heart ❤️ feeling 💕 and taking the time to say bye to our history.✌🏻🇺🇸

Oh, it was a "Church of Christ" as that is their tradition, although today they don't seperate male and female.
But still no musical instruments in church.
I marvel at where each of the Protestant Denominations focus their particular attention so strongly and note that these are largely USA born traditions.
Amazing pieces of history in Religion and so many were expanded in the Applacia area of Tennessee and Kentucky.
All are blessed with eternal Souls, the energies of which are of and from the Source, Creator, God. Be confident in your worthiness and live well in positive thoughts, and joyful experiences of your Life Journey.
Peace, Harmony, and Wellbeing be with you always ...

By looking at the building only the main support beams and stud work is original the mortar and blocks look like early 1900 lime mortar, The sawed lumber also early to late 1900s . Bet the siding boards are planed on one side only. This building is ballooned framed . not platformed like modern buildings. original building was most likely a mix of timber frame and balloon frame. building has probably been remodeled several times.

There are so many memories attached to this building and it's being allowed to go into the earth. Why is it wrong to selvage wood, windows, and doors to add to other homes or building to keep the memory alive. It's going to be lost, if not. It's not a shame to save honey bees. They are vital to our lives. And, they are endangered.
