Some friends and I broke down in Parrott driving home on college break from Auburn to Tampa. It took about a week to get it repaired because the mechanic had to order parts. The cool part was we got to watch film crews film various scenes from The Longriders!
That town looks so well maintained. I was surprised that it was an abandoned town! I’m sad that many of our historic buildings around Phoenix have been destroyed. I’ve seen old black and white pictures of the original buildings and they were magnificent! I love watching your videos and knowing that your videos will outlast many of the places you have explored! Thank you for that!
Just found your channel I'm hooked very intresting to watch Georgia I'm intresting to hear about the history of the southern states well done robert and the gang 🏴🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧
Really enjoyed this one, interesting that that's where the long riders was filmed, I bought the video for my husband as he was into the James and younger boy's.
There must be somebody living close by, the grass is mowed, and the town is fairly well maintained. Very interesting video. That town can't be abandoned, there is still a lot of stuff in the store windows and nobody seems to have vandalized them.
The dance hall/saloon in the movie was my grandpa's square dance hall. My mom still has some of the old blank cartridges that they had fired, David Carradine gave her when she was a little girl while they were filming.
I grew up in a small town that has a “downtown” area made of up of a couple of blocks of Victorian brick buildings. Funny how they built those buildings so tall. They used everyone of the floors, too. Some had meeting places in them and even a bowling place was put in a second floor of one of those buildings. Sadly, almost all of the shops are closed. There used to be dress shops and shoe stores. The town once had two shoe repair shops and two drug stores along with a couple of banks and way back when it had a Five and Dime store. Even the department store that was built in a park during the 60’s is just a rotting mass that takes up the better part of a block. Such a shame that decision was made. I have seen photos of the beautiful park that was once there and all the beautiful trees and benches. They would have community events take place there and it was across a street from the train station that was once quite a busy place. During the war years many troops moved through that town. Globalization has put an end to a lot of these old towns. The USA used to produce all of the things that people buy while today all of those industries have been bankrupted by the flood of cheaply made and priced products from countries where the laborers have no say about their day to day lives much less their wages and working conditions. The most wicked of people decided that they would use slave labor waged workers to make what they would sell. Why pay western workers good wages and have to provide decent working conditions when they had to deal with none of that on the other side of the world? They have been able to bankrupt and then buy up thousands of of domestic businesses and send the jobs to communist China by flooding the market with cheap imports. The 60’s were the beginning of the end of small business and the middle class of the USA. About 90% of what we buy is stamped “Made in China.” Our way of life has been handed to a new form of royalty. The huge multinational foreign manufacturing corporations, the big banks, and foreign interests. Even the food supply is owned by big corporations. Very little domestically produced anything is left here. The US government now borrows billions of dollars yearly from communist China, which has been built into a super power by elites of the west that have every intention of destroying what is left of our way of life and owning everything.
beautiful little town, so enjoyed this video very much all that was needed was John Wayne my favorite actor even to this day, too bad they don't make a tourist attraction.
Thinking of the depot, in my town of Shenandoah, Iowa we have two RR depots that were saved. One is a popular restaurant, The Depot Deli formerly Burlington Santa Fe. The other was Wabash RR now moved about 6 blocks to a park and renovated for viewing.
Very beautiful. ♡I worked a little country school, there was that same tile in the ceiling, asbestos we could not remove. It. Only lowered the ceiling with new tile. And we live in a disposable world now.. thank you guys for sharing
I have driven past Parrott, Georgia on the highway a number of times on my way from Opelika, Alabama to Jacksonville, Florida. I did not know know this history, but the next time I drive down to Jax, I will check out the Parrott downtown.
Mr. Parrot is buried in the cemetery behind the Methodist church; like many of its former residents. Its not an abandoned town...we have well over 100 plus residents... the homes here are just as old and as historic! It’s a beautiful place to visit to just look at how the old old towns were constructed! I love it here!
Wow what an amazing place this is, such a shame most of it's abandoned. The store that was open should have kept it how it was inside originally but with modern items, now that would have been a nice touch. What a find, it looks well maintained though, especially with the little cemetery. Thank you for showing this, love hearing about the history of it and actually seeing what it would have been like all those years ago. Loved this video, thanks guys. (UK)
This reminds me of some of the buildings on Mainstreet (aka Hwy 17) here in Darien Georgia, and nearby downtown Brunswick Ga. I'm sure you know the "secret" remedy for gnats... (Avon's Skin So Soft) but you have to be mindful of getting sunburned.
The architecture does look a lot like some of the 1800s Old West buildings out here in California, although as you mention I don't think I've seen the names of the buildings and date of construction engraved in the thresholds before, they're usually on top of the building. There's a Parrotts Ferry Rd. near Sonora/Columbia (old west towns) in CA, I wonder if there's any relation to where you're at? BTW it's pronounced /Parrot/ here as far as I know. French typically doesn't use double T's and the end unless it has an -e or -es (unless it was once Parrotte?) so I doubt it's /par'oh/. What are you using to make such crisp & clear videos?
It's so sad that the town couldn't bring a great little tourist attraction to that little piece of old buildings. It gets a lot of traffic down that road. I've seen towns that come together and make a success of out of what was fast becoming ghost towns.
Nice use of the drown at opening. Great to hear the history of Parrott. Just loved the small cemetery on the edge of town. Plan to do a couple of videos on rural NSW (Australia) in June 2019, inspired by your good selves. I have started a "Cemetery Short" on youtube under my own name, mainly using stills. Love your work.
Interesting old town. I remember when Oklahoma City had buildings with that sort of architecture but alas they were torn down to make way for ugly, modern buildings.
Was there a surviving residential neighborhood or, was it all torn down? If so many of the citizens became millionaires, there had to have been some really nice mansions.
Someone is taking care of , preserving it to some degree. All the shops are in place, antique store with items in it. The bank has pictures on the walls! Some organization is keeping it up.
Kathy GARBEŔ people rent some a the building for businesses...... the town is not abandoned and we have well over 100 I citizens of parrot... the homes here are just as historic and as beautiful as the town! There are no organizations involved.
@@amyferri5379 it's just such a quaint , beautiful place ! Like a breath of fresh , free air when our world was cleaner ? Don't know if I'm making sense but it just seems un infected with hurry up !😁
I was quessing ford '50 or '5. Dad had a '49 ford two door with 3 on the column, originally no heater, and small 8 cylinder. But that little car could pick up and move! Lol with a "cadillac idle". Know what that means? Quess you too young.
@sidestep adventures that door with no steps I had to laugh. Its not the fall that gets ya... It's the sudden stop ✋ that does. And all that beautiful old lead glass with waves in them. If someone stood at those windows (bigger home type) during a lightning 🌩 storm their image could developer onto the glass. Making modern day 👻 ghost stories
beautiful joanna moore was born in parrot ga....she was andy griffiths girlfriend in 4 episodes...and was in a good gunsmoke episode....she was married to ryan o'neal and tatum o'neall was their daughter
You should check out the cemetery behind the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary there's a gun range on one side of the railroad tracks and cemeteries on the other side of the railroad tracks used to play there when I was a kid they say Machine Gun Kelly is buried there
What a beautiful place.Plants are from the seeds dropped from plants from before.

Thanks for showing ghost towns that is amazing

This is a great vlog. I love old towns with history and I am so glad this one is still intact. Thanks for sharing.
This one was awesome. A whole town!
Wonderful old town!! That highway is probably the reason everything closed down! It's a shame, but makes for great videos!! Love it!!
I missed this episode somehow until now. Followed along with you on Google maps. Nice adventure!

Oh my goodness I would love to be able to get inside the library. I would be in heaven checking out all those books. I love to read 😁
Great video! I love the old towns and historic places in Ga. and Alabama. It takes me back to what were arguably, slower and better times.
Very beautiful. ♡I worked a little country school, there was that same tile in the ceiling, asbestos we could not remove. It. Only lowered the ceiling with new tile. And we live in a disposable world now.. thank you guys for sharing
Absolutely fantastic 💜
Awesome video
The drone footage at start real top notch.
The video and audio shown with your new equipment is stunningly good, well done and thank you!

Leary, Ga was also used in the movie "The Long Riders" but it didn't fair as well as Parrott did over time.

Beautiful place would make a great movie set . I hope they will restore it.
We have no sense of style anymore. Nothing is built to last. I love old architecture. Functional and beautiful at the same time!
That was just wonderful guys - thank you .

Google maps up.... Let's go...
love the sidewalk
Thx!
What a great place love the history thanyou👻
Yeah, I'll admit I prefer this downtown arcihtecture over modern strip-mall.
awesome vidio
You should have come on over to Albany!
It looks like a set of the movie the good the bad & the ugly!!! Lol
visit Utopia, Georgia near Nashville, Georgia in Berrien County in southern Georgia nearest city Valdosta. Established 1972 by 15 year old.
Nice car great video
It would be very cool to make all of those buildings lofts or apartments to live in with several taverns and shops in the middle of it all
Leave these in their natural condition and don’t ruin them like so many gentrified places.
You should have come on over to Albany.
It is clean and moderately well maintained, but absolutely nobody around! Like something from the Twilight Zone.
Can a person go and buy an entire town like this cheap? Who owns it?
THEY SHOULD HAVE THEM STORES OPEN, A BAKERY, ANTIQUE STORE, CANDY SHOPPE, RESTAURANT ETC. ENOUGH TRAFFIC GOING BY FOR IT
wild west with flowers
Nice job. I am a resident of Parrott. Come visit. We have amazing homes.
Awesome! I will definitely have to try to make it back down there

Good Ole Days
Was there anything else open in this town other than the trading post?
David Whiting there is one antique shop open on Thursday, Friday’s and Saturday’s.
14:26 YIKES..i probably dont need to know what's in that decanter :)

That broken window round hole was from a ball probably from a kid
Everyone flocks to Walmart that's why towns like that die out
