I like that you cite sources, give dates, have interview excerpts, etc. It's more like video game journalism and not just another dude's opinions. Good editing as well. Nicely done!
Thx , I try to give each subject a bit of everything 👍 like you said just listening to someones opinion just feels like a lazy video to me . Thanks for watching 😀👍
Wow, never knew Rob Hubbard did the music for Desert Strike. Always loved it but never looked into it. I had a friend who's aunt owned a video rental store which also did Mega Drive and Nintendo games. So I never owned this series back in the day because we got free game rentals :) Just recently picked them all up and they're still great.
That's because HE DIDN'T. The Strike theme was composed by Brian Schmidtt, who did all the sound and music for Desert Strike and Jungle Strike. They brought on Don Veca, because he was an internal resource and didn't want to continue paying Brian. This video is FILLED with misinformation.
I didnt know Rob worked on the MegaDrive either! Great documentary, Bastiche, as always. I've never played any of these games but you've opened my eyes again!
Cheers , always fun to learn new stuff about old games 😀👍 thanks for checking it out , they are a bunch of really well made games worth investigating .
Somehow as kids we ended up playing Jungle Strike first. Then later went back to play Desert, but Jungle still holds the most nostalgia for me. Interesting how they have such intense menu and cutscene music. Then silence in-game except your chopper blades... It gave the impression things got serious and the shit got real. Well done.
Great video! I loved Desert Strike on the SNES and got close to completing it. I played Jungle Strike on PC but didn't get far, and picked up Soviet Strike for the PlayStation cheap but never did more than the first mission.
Great video as always! I had no idea that Rob Hubbard was responsible for the Desert strike music, makes sense though as I loved it and still do. Also... had NO idea about Future cop but thinking about it now, its really obvious. Great game that was too.
Cheers , its cool to find out simple stuff about games you like 😀👍👍👍 . Future Cop was awesome .. i remember playing it for the 1st time and i said to my friend that its basically Desert Strike in a mech and laughted !! Only years later i found out it was actually gonna be a Strike game 😂😂
Nice overview! Also good to see, that apparently the overall quality of the series remained high. I really only played the first game on Amiga though... a surprisingly decent conversion that adds it's own quality touches. Probably doesn't have the frame rate though. Then the demise of Commodore prevented any of the sequels appearing on the system of course.
Thx it was fun too make . Never played the Amiga version of Desert but heard it was good and its a pity the other two 16-bit ones didn't get converted.
@@BastichB64K Yes, when EA still cared! The Amiga version also has a different intro and a tune which sounds very much of its time but was quite cool back then. It also uses more samples in game for the SFX. Jason Whitely did the sound. It came on 3 disks, so there was disk swapping involved. Commodore went bankrupt in April of 1994, otherwise EA may have converted more titles to the A1200. A great system that probably came at least 2 years too late to change Commodore's fortune. IF they had managed to market the system in the right way also.
I grew up playing Jungle Strike with my father on the first family PC, a 60 MHz Intel based IBM, with Windows 95. However, I was already an adult when I learned that it was just one game in an entire series, and I still haven't played every one of them. So far I think I only played Desert and Jungle Strike. Also, at least on PC, these two had a strafe hotkey, with LShift, which I also only learned relatively recently.
Awesome documentary. Although i was hoping to see the Amiga versions of Desert Strike and Jungle Strike. Oh well, can't blame ya 😺👍. Urban Strike also looked cool. I had Desert Strike on the Amiga 500 many years ago. Thanx for an awesome documentary video. 😺👍🕹️
Great production values again. Must admit to not actually playing any of the games though they do look interesting. Interestingly again I like the Genesis games a lot better graphically than the PS1. I was never a fan of the fuzzy, clunky PS1 graphics and never really a fan of the PS1 period. Brilliant documentary mate, absolutely loved it 👍
Thx , the good old PS1 gfx are definitely an acquired taste especially the 1st gen stuff . Soviet and Nuclear actually look pretty good overall and captured all the footage from original hardware . But yeah that Genesis 16-bit look cant be beat .
I only had a pirated copy of Desert Strike for the Amiga. I liked the graphics and the isometric style, but I never knew how to play it properly. Not only what all the controls were, but also how to effectively control the helicopter. I'd take off, fly over land and suddenly, I'm being shot. I deal with whatever was shooting me, move onto the next area and I'm being shot again. That would keep happening until I got shot down. Needless to say I never got anywhere in the game.
Yeah its definitely a mixture of strategy and action so understanding the map , recources and missions is vital to gameplay 👍 instructions are easy to find now online so maybe give it another shot 🕹️👍
I liked these games but always found them difficult. I always felt the chopper was a little sluggish to quickly avoid enemy fire. I fell off the series after the second (jungle strike). I may re-visit them. Nice docu.
It really all comes down to the angle you attack the target at is how you avoid major damage , like i said in the vid i also got fatigued after Jungle and didnt give Urban too much of a chance but going back now they are really fun.
EA should remake or remaster all the games for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. They could put the first three in one game with better graphics, updated gameplay, and use cinematic cutscenes and tweak some of the dialogue with voice acting.
i wish they make a new one maybe called "European strike" and that it's cartoony like first three games. then they could make "martian strike" that is set on Mars.
A fantastic video to one of my absolute favorite game series growing up. Thank you for the nostalgia!
Thx for checking it out much appreciated

Boet, best Strike games documentary on TH-cam. Thanks! 👏💪

Super cool , yeah i just completed my series physical copies thats why i did the vid . Still very fun games 👍👍
Got to admit: Rob Hubbard is a legendary musician on the old Commodore 64 games, and one of them is my favorite: Monty on the Run. 😺👍
Rob did just re-arrangements for some ports.
Great episode. Your production quality has really gone up a notch with this one. Excellent lighting, great sweeping shots and effects. Proper job !
Cheers thanks for noticing all the flurries 😂 , i took a lot of time and effort to put that one together 👍 thank you for watching
Great editing and production on this one. People who have not watched your game and developer documentaries are really missing out!
Cheers thx .
Unfortunately most people haven't watched them 😂👍 oh well .. glad you enjoyed it and cheers for watching.
I just wish they were more accurate. But well-produced, for sure.
Thank you for making this.
My pleasure , thx for watching
The one series that I want to see a HD Remaster for!
nice Video as usual. desert strike is an excellent game ! thx Bastich
Cheers dude , thanks for watching it 😀👍
A minute in and I can already tell so much heart went into this
Thanks a lot for checking it out 👍
I can play Urban Strike all day...a criminally underrated Genesis game.

Jungle is still my fav as well , I think its the most well balanced
jungle and urban strike was totally my jam, as a kid.
Awesome games 😀👍
@@BastichB64K apparently, there is something called 'alligator strike', where you fly a Ka-52 "Alligator" double-rotor chopper ?
@@Zoie3x8 its a fan remake of Desert Strike as far as I know , haven't played it
The Strike games were some of my favorite Genesis games.
Yeah mine too , solid series of games ✅
Great video! I loved Desert Strike on the SNES and got close to completing it. I played Jungle Strike on PC but didn't get far, and picked up Soviet Strike for the PlayStation cheap but never did more than the first mission.
Jungle was a real beast , it was tough ! I managed to finish it back in the day! I dont think i could pull that off now 😂

Such a cool series , still love it
i just found the 1st 3 games at a yard sale a few months ago ,half way through jungle strike now .

The irony….Electronic Arts becoming the type of tyrants the Strike teams were fighting against……….

Yeah totally , seems EA have simply forgotten about this series completly
IMO The MS-DOS versions were better than the Genesis ones. This series played well with a keyboard surprisingly.
Sure whatever you like , this was simply about the original versions
Great games on the Genesis, except the infiltration in Urban Strike...
Yeah those infiltration parts were a cool idea but dont quite work as well as they had intended
i wish they make a new one maybe called "European strike" and that it's cartoony like first three games. then they could make "martian strike" that is set on Mars.
As much as i love these I think gameplay wise and formula they ran their course, it would still be interesting to see though
👍👍👍

somone should really play the game music on some actual guitars. bet it would rock hard
Probably some sort of remix out there with that , i agree it would sound epic
