    I hope my fellow Africans get what you're pioneering here. This is excellent.
    We all know there are those elements who don't understand what thinking outside the box/getting rid of the box is.

    • @madinagaijinboy
      @madinagaijinboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your thinking outside the box is blindly incorporating influences into your music. Listen to the African greats (with their simple 1-4-5 chords) and imagine what their music would be like if they started using jazz chords like #9b5s, etc in their music.

    • @matayo5080
      @matayo5080 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madinagaijinboy What the African greats did was theirs and will always be theirs. No one ever made a mark by simply doing what 100s of other people before them did in the same way the predecessors did it. By doing it as they did, you will always be a copy of what they pioneered. All the media/commentators will ever say is, "Musician X who is reminiscent of Franco." The identity will never be yours.
      Take for example, Lokassa Ya Mbongo, who played rhythm guitar to stardom, by removing the standard D string and replacing it with an E string tuned to D. That's innnovation. It made him stand out from the crowd. I'm sure there were/are many other guitarists who could do phenomenal things, but since they did not innovate, who knows them outside of their band's fan base?
      As Isaac pointed out in the video, these chords/scales have their functions. It's not blind incorporation to want your music to be more emotionally expressive/different by adding something that the triads of 1-4-5 does not and cannot give you. An 4maj7 chord resolving to a 4min7/4min6 is more emotionally expressive than a major triad.
      And that means he's carving out a niche for himself.
      There is no way you can enrich something without adding an influence of some sort. Have you ever wondered why alloys make better usable materials than the basic elements?
      Don't just oppose for the sake of opposing. Change is the only constant. Those who don't change, disappear.

      @@matayo5080 you dont address the reason why jazz musicians dont use simple chords in their music. A GENRE IS A GENRE.and why dont country musicians use jazz chords in their music?

    • @matayo5080
      @matayo5080 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madinagaijinboy It is difficult to say exactly what kind of musical education the greats received, but I believe if they had the chance to get further musical education, and combine it with their physical skill, the plethora of emotional ammuniton available to them would have made African music be celebrated much more than it is now.

    Enrichir,c’est aussi dénaturer la recette d’origine. La Rumba c’est notre identité,une intuition Black Kongo. J’apprends la guitare et je n’ai pas envie de mélanger tout ça.

    It’s good to learn other genres too but I don’t think mixing jazz with Congolese music is a good idea.
    There’s nothing wrong with playing those major chords over and over because that’s how our music is played and that’s the colour of it adding those 7th or minor 7th will change the colour and changing the colour means creating a new look to something, it will never remain the same...
    Our music is rich we don’t need to mix it with other genres that’s like our identity.
    It’s our duty to keep and treasure it therefore trying to change it by mixing it with jazz or blues or whatever is not a good idea! Let’s leave our music as we found it. Our great grandfathers didn’t change it why are we trying to change it for the future generations???
    Again am not saying guitarists shouldn’t learn those other genres of music I’m simply saying we shouldn’t change our music because that’s our inheritance...
    That’s who we are and we should be proud🇨🇩🇨🇩

      Hercule Gabriel you are right and that will be partly the conclusion of this serie of video, as I said I just tryna show another approach of those different styles to make it easy to understand and to give guitar players other perspective of music..
      I completely agree with what you say but as you know even our music derived from old latinos music and got some hints of blues and jazz already 🤷🏾‍♂️ ..
      I think music is a succession of derivatives through the ages even though some styles mark the identity of some areas being part of the local culture 💭...
      Since the evolution of things cannot be « stopped » the question is : where does all of this lead us ?
      Anyway I go pretty far in my reflection 😅 I hope you understand the deep meaning of my thoughts .. And I also stick to our musical identity that I love 😍 and stay open minded about the possibility of sharing it with other styles (i call that sharing rather than mixing 😉)...

      Innovation is what pushes the world forward. There's nothing wrong in exploring a different approach outside of what we're used to. In fact, that's the simplest and most direct way to find a way forward and add something different to what we already know. If it will add spice, let him go ahead. I'll go aking with what he has to offer.

      Isaac Sariel Right it’s really good what you’re doing sharing ideas💡 it’s just that in my opinion our music is rich and there’s a lot more to learn! And thanks for the awesome guitar tutorials we really appreciate your efforts😊🙏🙏

      Hercule i agree with you. i never hear american jazz musicians mix Congolese music with their style. why should we mix jazz with Congolese music? you're right. our music is our identity. Peace.

    • @matayo5080
      @matayo5080 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madinagaijinboy Jazz was started by the descendants of African slaves. Modal Jazz is a direct result of Miles David's visit to West Africa. He used African rhythms to revolutionise jazz, and that's how it is played to this day. Blues is a result of Africans in slavery developing traditional African 6/8 rhythms to fit their new reality. Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Cuban Rhumba, Kompa, Zouk, Son , Montuno and other Continental American genres are all exports from Africa. that developed into what they are now, in isolation from the motherland. Mixing Contemporary African music with Jazz or Blues is just incorporating what the Africans in diaspora have developed over the years.
