Remember I was so excited when we got color television in 1985. Watched all matches in color. We use to wait for the tri series in Australia for the color clothing matches. As far I know Srikanth was chain smoker -happy go lucky and had strange body ticks - I admired him we played against POUT university in 1979/ 80 and he was the captain and we played against them -Karnataka university . Every time I would bowled at him he was so unorthodox in his game I felt I could take his wicket!! 🙏
I heard the running commentaries in our Murphy vacuum tube radio along with my father, who was alive to enjoy this big event. I should thank this 1983 WC team for the joy they gave us by lifting the WC😅.
We talk about players who hit 4s and 6s wearing ⛑️ helmet. Those days players played risky play without any protection. We forgot this hero who hit century almost in 4s. Srikant only showed such sort of hits took quick runs.
They have forgotten to mention that the whole team was invited in the Rashtrapati Bhavan and Hon.President Gyani Zail Singh, ignored all protocols and spent a kwality time with each member. PM Indira Gandhi too had a long Photo Session with that World Cup winning squad. That moment was a great honour for a Sportperson.
