I was 18 when this came out. I was a senior in High School. My family owned a roller skating rink (1971-2009) I would DJ there most of my life. This was a highly requested song for couples song when it came out. And even after it's popularity dwindled from radio airplay. I'm 51 now and this song is still amazing. The lyrics. The story it tells. Still relevant today.

My three favorite love song writers would be: Lionel Richie, Dan Hill, and Jim Peterik. Peterik has stayed extremely active as a songwriter. Writing a large number of songs in the past two decades. Peterik just released a new love song a few months ago, called "All That's Mine to Give".

There were so many adult-oriented heartbreakingly soft rock ballads like this back in 86-89 (and some into the first half of the 90s too). One of my guilty pleasures as a kid, and I really miss them now since there's no sappy music like this in the Top 40 anymore.

In middle school, a boy was infatuated with me. I never gave him the time of day. He tried and tried and tried some more. He did everything he could think of at that young age. I did feel bad. Just wasn't into him like that. I couldn't make myself like him just because I felt bad for him. At a school dance, he dedicated this song to me. Just heard it over on tik tok. We both ended up going to the same high school. I met my husband to be when I was a freshman. We were inseparable. I remember that boy, Joe, would stop and look at me when I would pass by. Didn't matter if I was with my friends, future husband etc. His face said so much. I prayed he would find a girl he could love. I think he did. I'm not sure. My husband, whom I met when I was 14, is still my husband 34 yrs later. I felt the passion for him and the butterflies. Still do. I hope wherever this kid is, or man, I should say, found happiness and has a great life with a wife and kids or whatever it was that was going to make him happy. I hope he found it. I've never forgotten about him. I wish him the best wherever he is. As far as my husband, my rock, my one and only love, we've had our rough times. This song certainly does fit for us. There were so many adult-oriented heartbreakingly soft rock ballads like this back in 86-89 (and some into the first half of the 90s too). One of my guilty pleasures as a kid, and I really miss them now since there's no sappy music like this in the Top 40 anymore.

In middle school, a boy was infatuated with me. I never gave him the time of day. He tried and tried and tried some more. He did everything he could think of at that young age. I did feel bad. Just wasn't into him like that. I couldn't make myself like him just because I felt bad for him. At a school dance, he dedicated this song to me. Just heard it over on tik tok. We both ended up going to the same high school. I met my husband to be when I was a freshman. We were inseparable. I remember that boy, Joe, would stop and look at me when I would pass by. Didn't matter if I was with my friends, future husband etc. His face said so much. I prayed he would find a girl he could love. I think he did. I'm not sure. My husband, whom I met when I was 14, is still my husband 34 yrs later. I felt the passion for him and the butterflies. Still do. I hope wherever this kid is, or man, I should say, found happiness and has
a great life with a wife and kids or whatever it was that was going to make him happy. I hope he found it. I've never forgotten about him. I wish him the best wherever he is.
