    do you have to pay extra to bring aboard a piece of luggage (like you do at low-cost airlines)?

    • @NonstopEurotrip
      @NonstopEurotrip  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      You know when I was watching it through and checking it had uploaded correctly I remembered I had forgot to mentioned that... You get one large suitcase and one 'cabin bag' sized piece of luggage for free. And with 'Plus' you get an additional large suitcase for free or it's €5 extra with 'Standard'. And it's €10 extra to bring a 'small pet'

    That is just a perfect service - a benchmark for high speed rail. And having a two-class low-cost train makes so much more sense. Was especially impressed by the multi-lingual conductor - his English is even better than mine!

    The way things are going with high speed trains I personally think that they will be more popular than low cost airlines, yes the plane is quicker but by the time and money you spend getting to the airport plus hanging around for a couple of hours it’ll turn out to be roughly the same time, I’d certainly prefer the train and I love flying but the hanging around airports just rattles my bones now, great post really enjoyed it

      Meanwhile China's Guangzhou S & Japan's Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto stations are like ~17km away from downtown. So Apple Daily did a comparison & claimed that travelling from HK-Guangzhou wasn't much faster by HSR than by conventional rail (whose trains go to the more centrally located Guangzhou station instead)

    Madrid-Barcelona HSL is currently limited to 300 km/h, not 310 km/h due to ERTMS Level 1. Level 2 which allowed those 310 km/h in the past was deactivated due to its testing purposes before Madrid-Valencia/Alicante HSL opening. It's expected to be funtional again somwhere in the future but it's not know if the 310 km/h speed limit will be again applied. Nice video indeed!

      As far as I know, it was built there to provide equal (but shitty) access to the two main cities of the Camp metropolitan area: Tarragona and Reus. Both are similar in size and the only way to give equal treatment to both (they are politically and culturally considered old rivals) was by building it somewhere in the middle.

    Firstly, it is grand that Ouigo is in Spain and they have hit the mark here. 👏🏻🚄
    I have been following the low-cost operator since the inauguration back in 2013 between Marne-la-Vallée and Marseille and Montpellier, and since then it has gone from strength to strength. Learning the tricks from the low-cost carriers to play at their game to provide low-cost rail travel to a new audience. SNCF said that around half wouldn’t have even considered travelling if Ouigo wasn’t there. 👍🏻
    It is a delight that they have expanded to Spain, and it is clear that people love it. Although many from looking at Ouigo's Facebook page many wanted to go as far as an international service from Paris to Madrid.
    I would be interested to see whether SNCF would through its agreement with NTV (Italo), whether it would set up an Italian subsidiary in the future, or create any further services in other countries like Belgium or Germany.

So trying to build a relationship might by tricky, although Trenitalia has recently gained access to the Paris-Milan lane as a competitor to SNCF. However, all things are possible!

    4:15 Firstly, I love the colour scheme of the French Ouigo train, because azure blue is a very beautiful color, perfectly fitting to the Mediterranean Sea the train also serves, and to the other colour, pink. Secondly, the Spanish white version of course looks classy, but it also profits from the azure blue and pink colours of the French version, namely at its circular markings at the locomotives and passenger entrance doors. Without these vivid colours, it would look quite boring.

    Looking forward to when they extend the service on to Figueres Vilafant which is luckily only 45 mins drive across the frontier from my home near Perpignan and has a massive car park. This is my usual route for visits to Barcelona for football etc. as the fare by SNCF TGV and Renfe AVE from Perpignan itself can be up to 50% more expensive. From Figueres it's cheaper than driving and less stressful with no parking issues when you get there! Still a distant dream though until, hopefully the Schengen borders open up again after 30th June, cross-border train services resume (again hopefully) and the remaining border restrictions are removed.

    These are fantastic-looking trains. I REALLY wish we had trains like these here in the US but, so far, there just is not much financial interest in building them. Perhaps with the Biden administration, that will finally change. We could take so much pressure off of our highways and airports if we added comprehensive HSR to our travel options. The environmental impact would be so positive as well. Sigh... At least some parts of the world are smart enough to realize the benefits and make the investment.

    Any chance you could measure and show the max and average speeds on every day train trip (not really relevant on sleeper trains)? I don't think anyone else on TH-cam does that. Decibel measuring would be good too.
