    Historyland Vol. 2 is phenomenal Matt! As always, your videos are perfectly edited, entertaining, informative, nostalgic, and just plain fun. Out of all the Disney Park TH-camrs, you are certainly one of the best and i'd rather see this content from you instead of from others who have covered similar topics! Keep up the good work! Also, I have seen Infinity War and have also been on Mission Breakout. I think they are both surprisingly amazing...they're just plain fun, which is what Disney entertainment SHOULD be!

    Matt, Great video! Congrats on being the first to make a fully in depth video on Mission Breakout's complete back story. Until now I didn't know Tower of Terror was inspired by a discarded attraction concept intended for Euro Disney/Disneyland Paris. Btw, I know this is petty but at 4:03 you mispronounced the word facade. It's a french word pronounced "Fo-sodd" (and not fakade). Facade means faux front (false/fake front).

  • @amadtaz
    @amadtaz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    4:04 The C in Facade makes an S sound and it's more like fasawed. Just FYI. Keep up the good work.

    Fantastic work as always!!! There’s still talk of the tower getting re-themed here in Florida. Hopefully it doesn’t happen! Although I’ve seen a ride through of the one in Japan and it has a generic haunted hotel theme that seems to work.

      The Florida tower is honestly quite cheesy and has many issues that need fixing these being as big as the horton doors during the drop sequence not opening leaving an awkward gap also the 5th dimension scene the Florida tower has is way too overrated and the effect is poorly executed ,like seriously guests don’t know that they are entering the twilight zone .to them it’s like going through a room with cardboard cutouts and screens. The drops are also slightly slower than the Tot2 style and things that happen during the ride like the basement scene at the very make no sense.the 5th dimension scene is Paris /California was executed better and it looks like you’re entering another dimension .Also I would like to add that the other towers were able to keep the more intense feeling of the attraction while Florida is full of awkward pauses that make it seem like a broken ride.Lastly I have to say that when the preshow begins in Florida the lights in library immediately go on about 7 seconds into the preshow.

    • @mikeiseastman
      @mikeiseastman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amen! Tower 2.0 had clear improvements on the original design and storytelling. Yeah, the horizontal movement is cool, but it affects the pacing of the attraction with a slow beginning and several awkward pauses, not to mention the Imagineers have been open about the 5th Dimension Room having bland theming because the horizontal movement would distract from their slapdash job. The storytelling and imagery were really improved for the newer Towers, even if the facade and queue weren't up to the original.

    • @jakedlp_
      @jakedlp_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Eastman I totally get how you feel it’s hard to find people who actually think about the attraction properly and realise that the 5th dimension in florida is poorly executed😀

    • @mikeiseastman
      @mikeiseastman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. The trackless idea is great, but most don't know its trackless as the ride doesn't capitalize on that and instead has the car move along a fairly straight forward direction while the vehicle turns to and fro, similar to an omnimover or a tracked ride vehicle with rotating seating area. The decor is corny, which fits the show, but doesn't fill me with dread or fear. The DCA version did a good job focusing more on the ghost story than about entering the television show.

  • @robinkomin

  • @bluedragon9925
    @bluedragon9925 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If one good thing came out of DCA's Tower of Terror being converted into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, it's the fact that all four of Disney's Tower rides are now unique in their own way. First you have the original Florida version with its 5th dimension room, then you have the Paris version which while once a straight-up clone of DCA's version is now unique thanks to DCA's version being converted into Mission Breakout, and finally you have Tokyo's version which uses DCA and Paris' building and shaft layout, but has a completely original story and theme not connected to any existing IP's.

    • @andreimanila0718

      I agree. The story of the Twilight Zone was better suited for the ride. The scary atmosphere of a haunted hotel fits better with an elevator drop ride. However, the ride experience and the random drop sequences blow TOT out of the water. If they had just introduced new ride sequences like they did in Florida, we all would've been happy. Unfortunately, the direction DCA is headed towards was better suited for the Marvel universe.
      Which sucks lol. The concept of TOT was easier to understand for the general audience, even if they didn't watch the Twilight Zone. For Guardians of the Galaxy, I feel that prior knowledge of the movie is needed to understand the ride in its entirety. I haven't watched the movies, so I feel left out.

    I’ve ridden tower in WDW (my home park) tons of times and always hated mission breakout and then I actually got the chance to ride it and my opinion completely flipped
    The two rides have completely different feels twilight zone is a creepy ominous suspenseful kind of a ride while mission breakout is faster paced and more energetic the fact that breakout just pulls back and shoots up without the whole buildup and feels like a party the whole time is personally more appealing for me
    Though I can see where people who like the original tower better you get the whole mysterious atmosphere that breakout doesn’t have
    (Also I really enjoy the music on breakout)

    While I like the idea of Marvel rides at Disney Parks, it needs to be handled better than what Pixar did to many beloved attractions. The Submarine Voyage and Living Seas are ruined now in my opinion by carelessly shoving in new characters.

    Love this video! I've never been on Florida version, which honestly looks much better than what we have in CA, and I only went on the DCA version a few months before it closed (I used to be such a wuss 😂). But I did get a few rides in, and I enjoyed it. I had no real attachment to ToT, and I'm not the world's biggest Marvel fan. From that point of view, Guardians is a better fit for California. It's not a cheap knockoff like ToT was of its Florida counterpart, it fits with future plans for that area of the park, it brings more Marvel to the Resort (which people have been complaining about for ages), and it has some of the best effects of any Disney ride. It upset me that people have a personal bias towards the old ToT because that's what they grew up with. Disney parks are meant to evolve and change, and I think this was a great move.
    And as always, another great, informative video!

  • @justinfriedrich5741
    @justinfriedrich5741 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Huh, well to those who are Tower of Terror purist. I think that there is a node that Mission Breakout was Twilight Zones Tower of Terror. After Rocket is talking to you in the library I looked to the left and saw that creepy looking heating thing but might be looking better. So, it gives you a sense that even though it changed it still has connection to Tower of Terror. To be honest, I wasn’t too thrilled about Tower of Terror. However, Mission breakout was better in a way. However, it’s an opinion and everybody has their own opinion but yeah I’ll say the new one is better fit.

  • @MatecaCorp
    @MatecaCorp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yet another great episode of Historyland! Thanks for all the information every week.
    Okay; I like the ride, HATE the exterior. Not that I think it is necessarily ugly, but it intrudes on almost every single area in the resort. It is just horribly jarring when you are riding the Mark Twain riverboat down the historic Rivers of America and look astern and see a literal pile of junk soaring above the well-themed buildings and beautiful landscaping. I had the same issue with the OG Tower of Terror, in fact I distinctly recall my five-year-old self looking out from the Disneyland Railroad and thinking how out of place the tower was.
    I think Mission: Breakout, though a reasonably good attraction, is not advanced or aesthetically acceptable enough to remain popular and technologically relevant over the coming years. Just like the dated Star Tours rides will be when the two Galaxy's Edge lands open, M:BO will soon be left behind by the rapidly progressing theme park industry. Even now, only a year after it opened, the ride is losing its footing. The attraction rarely draws more than sixty minute wait times on a normal day, and with the upcoming opening of the "Super Hero Themed Area" with its advanced rides, I can see the Guardians, and the tower itself, being ousted in favor of a roller coaster or Galaxy's Edge type "uber dark ride".

  • @ashlyb.3503
    @ashlyb.3503 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I may get a lot of heat for this, but... I think that Guardians of the Galaxy beats out Tower of Terror by far. At least in California’s version. I’ve never been to Walt Disney World, so I can’t say for that one, but in my opinion I was shocked at how much I loved this ride. I’m a die hard Disney fan, and I HATE changes to classics, which the tower somewhat was, and so I was hesitant to go on this. When I did, it became my favorite ride in the whole resort, which is crazy to say. It has every thing I look forward to for a adrenaline filled ride.

    Here's my problems with Marvel attractions and GOTG specifically: I like them WHEN THEY MAKE SENSE. It made sense when the Hollywood Tower Hotel was a backdrop to Disney's CALIFORNIA adventure. Now we have the collector's fortress staring at the rest of the park. And Marvel Land will most likely make no sense in California Adventure either. Disney might as well be changing the name of that theme park. And while EPCOT is in serious need of a roller coaster, was Guardians of the Galaxy really the best option? Time will only tell.
    Mission Breakout is a very good ride btw. I'm from Orlando and when I went to Disneyland, Mission Breakout was one of my favorites. However, I do NOT want it to replace Tower of Terror in Orlando. It would make absolutely no sense at the end of Sunset Boulevard (This is not a challenge) and more importantly, if every ride in Disneyland Resort exists at Walt Disney World Resort, what would be the point of me ever returning to Disneyland?

    • @kendrick5501
      @kendrick5501 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Finally someone notices the problem in placing Marvel attractions in a specifically themed Disney park
      Having Marvel attractions in DCA literally takes away the theming that DCA is focusing on.
      But I guess Disney will rename the park soon, but seeing as how DCA looks now, it looks like an expansion of Disneyland rather than a unique Disney park

      Japan does not know about the Twilight Zone
      So they kept the haunted hotel theme, just without the Twilight Zone theme and instead an original story.
      Mission Breakout was replacing a ride that's already awesome, so it was an unnecessary change.
      Another is that the haunted hotel elevator fits much better with the the drop ride than Mission Breakout.

Like Mission:Breakout. If it’ll ruin the theming of the Hollywood studios in DCA, just make it a mini Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It won’t be hard.

    DCA's version was the inferior version? That must be why Tokyo chose this model over the original model. While Florida has the superior queue and facade, the DCA version had the better ride experience with less dated effects, faster pacing, and a few more thrills.

    • @swirlyonionparks1535
      @swirlyonionparks1535 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Eastman exactly

    • @kendrick5501
      @kendrick5501 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original Florida tower is the superior version compared to the California tower
      But the reason the Tokyo and Paris towers went with California tower when in terms of building is cause the Florida tower is so expensive af.
      So when they were building the 2nd tower in California, it was redesigned to not just be unique from Florida, but to build the same awesome ride, but in a smaller scale and less costly budget.
      Since it was effective despite being an inferior version of the Florida tower, this would be carried over for both the Tokyo and Paris towers.

      Sorry, but definitely disagree. The newer Towers had a much better pacing, layout of scenes, writing, effects, and much less downtime with breakdowns. The original had some great ambitious goals, but the newer ones are a better overall ride experience.

      I can see what u mean there tho
      Although seeing as how ur arguing, it looks more like preference, which I can't really do anything with.
      The Florida tower is the best version of the ride despite the breakdowns. In fact,
      However, for preferences, it depends on the people. So pretty much, you prefer the California/Tokyo/Paris towers over the Florida tower.

      @mikeiseastman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Best" is a preference as it is a subjective term. In my opinion, the most effective and most reliable is the best. Like the Expedition Everest Yeti might have been amazing, but the Matterhorn Yeti is still the "best" as it actually works. Great design ideas are fun to talk about, but what matters to me is the guest experience. For this guest, the reliability, faster pace, and improved show scenes are what makes the newer TOT's better than the original, despite the original having the best facade and queue.

    When they first announced Mission Breakout replacing Tower of Terri I was so pissed. Even just when the rumors were spreading I kept doubting it and hated the idea. But now it’s been here for almost a year and it’s honestly better than tower of terror. It’s my favorite ride in DCA and I can’t wait for the marvel themed land coming soon!

    You have to be careful not to alientate those of use who (big shocker) are not comic fans, nor will ever be. Us types are also sick and tired of the media's current fad and obsessison with them, and cannot wait for this Hollywood fad to finally end. I know this is going to sound incredible, but I have avoided watching comic-based films like the plague. And I swear to God ....I feel like throwing up every time I watch yet another 'originally opinionated' TH-cam video from fanboys who go on ranting about how watching 'Infinity Wars' cured their cancer and/or was the best thing that ever happened to them in their whole entire lives. Some people make it seem like 'Infinity Wars' solved world hunger!!! One may wanna sit down before reading the following sencentce, but: there are actual Disney fans out there who DO NOT LIKE comics, and feel as though Disney is slowing turining their parks into some niche entertainment for the sole benefit of comics or star wars fans. If Disney wants to foray into the realm of DC/Marvel (or whatever imbecilic property they own) ........then by all means........more power to them...... I would just ask that they stick those themes in their own dedicated park instead of replacing traditional rides at Disney proper, and forcing the rest of us to have swallow this crap. Yes, I know this sounds like i'm an alien impersonating a human.........but trust me........NOT EVERYONE loves comic books or Star Wars...I just wish that more people would finally come to this realisation and cater to our demographic accordingly.

      lexfacitregem your demographic is very small I love the amazing experiences that these movies have brought to the Disney parks you guys are the reason nothing gets updated at Disney they paint something and you all go up in arms

      Sounds like you have a real bias and deep seated issues against these properties. I'm not a huge Marvel/Star Wars fan, but I am a fan of good storytelling and engaging experiences. This is why I loved the original Star Tours, it was a fun space adventure even if you didn't like Star Wars. Star Tours 2.0 lost a lost of the storytelling aspects, which is why I am less than a fan. I prefer Guardians the movie over any Transformers movie, but I'd much rather ride Transformers the Ride than Mission BO because the storytelling and ride design is better. Not my favorite attraction, but if looking at a boxy car bouncing around in front of a screen, clearly Mission BO is the inferior version and lacks cohesive storytelling. The problem isn't Marvel or Star Wars vs classic Disney, the problem is lazy splashy ride design that lacks narrative and structure.

      Disneyland Collector: Why the ad-hominem abusive? My comment had nothing to do with 'being an A-hole tutorial'. This is just me sharing my opinion coming from the stereotypical 'disney purist' mindset. The original disney parks and properties were totally devoid of comics' intellectual property, as it for the most part, only Disney's own intellectual property was represented (corporate sponsors notwithstanding, eg: Monsanto). Show me where, during the first decades of disney, there were these 'comic-book' based rides. My gripe is that this all changed after Disney bought up the IP rights of Marvel and Lucasfilm and what-not. I dare say my opinion is not unique amungst my fellow 'purists'. If you want to engage in a mature and intellectually cogent debate regarding this dichotomy, then....fine. I'm all ears.......though calling someone an A-hole just because that person doesn't swoon or go all uber-ecstatic over the DC/Marvel Universe and as a result are voicing their honest critique about their beloved Disney parks show a fundamental lack of tolerance and even a modicum of respect. I am and always have been a hard-core Disney fan. I used to go to Disney back when tickets were only $7. So I'm not a stranger to this arena, nor am I one who randomly stirs up hate about Disney just for some sort of deviantly derived pleasure in order to get a 'rise' out of people. Why did I come here to comment? I'm a Disney fan who happens to disagree with some of the decisions that the park has taken as of late. Am I not afforded the right to voice such an opinion? Anyway...it was never my intention to get into some heated argument or anything of the sort. I just wanted to vent my frustration at what I perceive to be my nostalgic childhood being trampled on. Do you have to agree with me? Of course not! But I at least would have the expectation to not be labelled as some rando hate-mongerer who just spouted some incoherent diatribe just for the sake of being an 'a-hole'. Anyway.......hope you understand. Sorry if I have offended you in any way. Peace.

    • @iamchristian1129

      it's better because the story of the ride makes more sense, the ride is a lot more insane in then before because the elevator goes randomising and you don't know where you gonna go up and down, it has a lot of catchy songs they playing plus kids get to go on it more and make it a ride for everyone to go on and enjoy it, so that's why is better

    • @themeparkanalysis8114
      @themeparkanalysis8114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      >story of the ride makes more sense,
      The story makes no sense. Most of the ride experiences don't even show the Guardians breaking free. It's all just random nonsense that doesn't tie together. Awful storytelling.
      >the ride is a lot more insane in then before because the elevator goes randomising and you don't know where you gonna go up and down
      This could've been done to Tower of Terror. No need for a Guardians overlay for this to happen.
      > it has a lot of catchy songs
      So did Kitchen Kabaret. Your point?
      >plus kids get to go on it more and make it a ride for everyone to go on and enjoy it,
      I don't care about kids. They'll be entertained by dangling keys in front of them.
