finally, something close to a comprehensive history of the monarchy, and the ariel shots of england and london, i might very well watch it again in the future. i liked it..........
I’m here the day after the passing of her majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, her passing has triggered a bizarre curiosity about the history of Britain’s monarchy and political system! Very interesting video and I took more away from this than I took from 3 years of history lessons in school
This made me miss England so much! I visited last December and within my two weeks visit, I was able to go to a couple of places from this video: The Tower of London, York Minster, Old Royal Naval College (the site of the former Greenwich Palace), The Queen's House & Westminster Abbey. My sister lives about 10 minutes (walking distance) from The Queen's House so that area became one of my favorite places to stroll about in the mornings, as well as Greenwich park 😁 These buildings are as grand as you'd imagine they are. It felt so surreal being able to see them with my own eyes and be able to actually touch the stonework and whatnot. I'd say that with so many treasures in England, a two-week visit is quite short! You will spend a couple of hours touring these sites, especially if you're a history enthusiast like me and next thing you know, it's night time 😅 but I am coming back again later this year and plan on staying for at least a month. I aim to visit as many places featured in this video as I can 🥰
@@sexynelson100 I’m looking forward. 😍 After this pandemic maybe. I fell in love with British history ever since this quarantine, and I just can’t get enough.
@@blancamarquez8697 Me too.. much of UK's history is still very well preserved.. Not just castles and abbeys.. but even the many surrounding picturesque towns and villages around these castes are still so quaint and so rich in history.

I am 8:50 in and wondering why Timeline "dumbed down" the vocabulary in this presentation? The words Henry II uttered on that fateful night in France, which we are all familiar with but probably weren't really historically accurate to begin with, are changed from turbulent to troublesome. He is then later beaten with "branches" by the clergy during his penance. At the point in the program I've reached, the diadem employed during Henry III impromptu coronation is referred to as a gold band. I'm not trying to be a snob here, I mean I knew a lot of this from OTHER Timeline programs. The English language is FILLED with fantastic descriptors honed over the centuries. If educational programs like this won't make use of them, how's the next generations vocabulary going to fare....not that it's presently doing well.
To be crowned king as a 9 year old child that's a crazy burden to carry despite that he would have had others making decisions for him until he was older that's still a lot to put on a kid. Look at Prince George, he is a shy and sweet boy, cant imagine crowning him this young.
@@VickyRyan2018 Yes perhaps now they are.. but back in those days, the only visual decor was the great colorful paintings that hang on the walls.. ( that would be their equvilent of our television technology )
What? Hold on... you are saying the British hate it so much but they never leave after being told to go back where they came from. Top marks for the most ridiculous comment 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂

Ha ha, very funny, I'm sure... Sorry... Thank you again!

There will always be an England! Being an American, with both sides of my family from Great Britain, I have always felt close to it. I hope one day to see and experience it, for myself! :)
Quite interesting, but it would certainly help to identify the ruined castles you show. Also- there is some misleading information- For instance. Hampton Court as it is now did not exist in Henry VIII's time. Only the front 1/3 of the palace existed, the rest was added 150 years later by William and Mary
@@sexynelson100 The William and Mary section was designed by Christopher Wren, in the Baroque style. What is left of the original Tudor palace built by Cardinal Wolsey is one of only two palaces owned by Henry VIII that still exists- The other Is St James Palace in London
@@DivaCantor Christopher Wren.. I didn't know that. He also built St Pauls Cathedral after the great fire of London in 1666.. and many other great London landmarks. Hampton Court still looks impressive

The boys' uncle was Richard Duke of Gloucester NOT York. Also their disappearance remains a mystery, the main person benefitting from their absence being Henry Tudor.

Please stop with the 'Richard III murdered his nephews' garbage. Since the boys (and their sister) had been declared illegitimate by Parliament via Titulus Regius, they could not be king. Plus, there were other potential claimants, and they were all alive and well under Richard. However, when Henry Tudor took the throne and married the boys' sister, he had Titulus Regius repealed *unread*, because he couldn't marry an illegitimate wife. By doing so, though, he made the boys legitimate again as well, and gave them a better claim to the throne than he had, and he couldn't have that. Besides, if Richard *had* murdered his nephews, he would have displayed the bodies and claimed that they died of natural causes, so that there would be no questions, and *that never happened*.
@@sedekiman Richard, 3rd Duke of York was the father of both Edward IV and Richard, Duke of Gloucester... However, Richard, 3rd Duke of York couldn't have participated in the 'murder' of the Princes in the tower (1483) as he was executed in 1460...
