    Have you ever used a light this big? I love having a portable window at my disposal any time 🤩

    • @fotowalo
      @fotowalo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, a DYS-system with a footfallfilter which cost is ridicolous an works since 30 years. It can used very large or small. Initial costs: 15x1m for 50 usd. Then you may hang it between your subject and the flash. Size cutted as needed..... For transport you roll it together so it's trasportabel in a small bag, no weight ( less the 500gr)

      @@fotowalo Fair enough! My favorite thing about a huge flat light is that I can avoid having to setup external diffusion and all the c-stands, etc. that go along with that, but not everyone feels the same.

    You had me fooled I always thought you were that beautiful…..dang! I really like the idea of flat mat lights. My falcon eyes RX-18T died and I am bummed. I would love that one you got. Would work perfect on my rolling impact stand. Great video as always!

    I can’t get that app to work for anything . Can you do a walk thru from linking to the features ??

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason I like this app/light combo is that there really isn't anything to do to get it working. Some lights require extra steps.
      1. Go into the Bluetooth menu on the light and rotate the left knob so it says "OK" under bluetooth reset
      2. In the app, press the button to add a light
      3. Select the light to add it
      4. Go back to the app main screen and tap the light and start changing settings
      If that doesn't work, something else is up and you'd have to talk to Intellytech.

      See you in the gym 💪 But seriously... that would be cool, although it would add a couple hundred to the cost, and ~10lbs to the weight, so it's definitely a tradeoff. I'm glad they went this route to save the money, and if you need a hard shell case, there's lots of options out there.
      It's funny, I've noticed people are very defensive of whatever hard case brand they start with, whether it's SKB, Nanuk, etc. so choose wisely. I did a video on SKB cases a while back here if it helps: th-cam.com/video/W_c4yU6lEto/w-d-xo.html

      It is heavy to just carry as it is , even for gym bunnies I think :) . but can fit a stand in too which is nice. I'll either put mine in a suitcase with wheels, or try to find a small but strong trolly , that could look like its part of the bag and so avoid having to use freight lifts for gear ,packing in. Great light though !

    DB noise from the Ballast?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't have a decibel meter, and in my studio, I rarely go above 25%, and have the fan set to Off. So it makes 0 noise whatsoever.
      With the fan on and the light at 100%, it takes more than 30 minutes for the fan to even come on in my home studio, and when it does, I oftentimes don't even notice. All that to say, it's either silent, or very, very quiet :)

    How's the output? I used a Lite Panel a few weeks back and was disappointed with the output.

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      To be honest, nearly all LED lights output the same amount per watt with very little variation. The three things that make a difference are the beam angle, size of the source, and diffusion.
      So a 100 watt COB with a 1" chip outputs the same amount of light as a 100 watt panel light with a 12" x 12" surface area, but if you were to measure them from 1 point in space, the COB will almost always win. Just like a 100 watt COB with a reflector on it will appear way brighter where it hits than on with no modifier or a softbox.
      Or how a 5 watt light with lenses on the front to make the beam angle 45 degrees will be brighter when measured than a 20 watt light with no lenses and a 120 degree beam angle.
      That's basically a long way of saying the output is great, unless you're using it "wrong". I think it works best close up because it's essentially it's own softbox, whereas a COB with a reflector is a better idea if you need to "shoot" your light from farther away.
      Not saying it can't be used from far away, because I see people rig them up 10-20' away. In my home studio, I have it only around 5-7% for talking head stuff (ISO 400, 1/50 sec, f/2.8) and 15% for b-roll (ISO 800, 1/125, f/5.6).
      I hope that convoluted answer helps, haha.

    How would these compare to the aputure litemat?

    • @NewLayer
      @NewLayer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had and still have an F22x and F22c. I used them before I got this.
      The main difference is that those are 2x2 feet, and these are way bigger and better built. Another small thing that annoyed me with the Amaran lights was that the fan in the controller box was kind of loud. It wouldn't get picked up in audio really, but I could hear it myself.
      Some people didn't like the "x-frame" design of the Amaran lights. You have to actually bend the metal when you put it up and take it down, so if you plan to do that a lot, I can see it becoming an issues.
      Overall, the Amaran panels are good, just smaller, and more "consumer' grade, while these are huge and higher end.

      The 2x4 bi-color version is $899, which is what a 2x2 used to cost, so it's not a budget-level price, but they are definitely not budget-level lights.
      The 2x2 bi-color 2.0 version is still totally viable, and a few hundred less than the 2x4 3.0. I did a video on those, and a big bonus is that they come with a nice hard shell case as well.
