- Does an EV3 really have an advantage over an NXT in an FLL competition? Today, I discuss using an EV3 or NXT brick to power your FLL robot. I discuss what advantages an EV3 may have over an NXT, and give suggestions on how an NXT team can compete against EV3 teams in an FLL competition.

FLL Robot:
We had a program selection menu, where each of the runs could be selected. This allowed us to be quicker in the base because we didnt have to find our program. However, this led to gigantic files which often corrupted and caused panic. An EV3 fixed all these issues for us

I have plenty such videos already. Feel free to peruse my library. You'll find everything from motor synchronization to line following to building tips to guide on programming every sensor. If there's anything you need that isn't already covered by my current videos, you can suggest it as a topic and I will get to it ASAP.
There is another important difference between the EV3 and the NXT. If the EV3 is trying to use all four motors simultaneously under load, the power draw is sufficient to drop the voltage and ABORT the program it is running (my four-motor dragster was a sad disappointment). This does not happen to the NXT, probably because it only runs three motors, although I suspect the processor on the NXT is capable of running at a lower voltage as well.
All nxt sensors are working with Ev3 software unless light sensor. what do you think the problem is? I've tried it from port view in the brick it works

I have the ev3 and it's actually really really good. Personally I thought If I would buy the ev3 I could still get it new and it is overall just slightly improved but other then that I dont really care :)
Other advantages of the EV3 over the NXT brick: (1) Bluetooth connectivity, (2) More-useful pinhole locations on the brick housing, and (3) Ability to store Gigabytes of programming on the optional microSD card.

The NXTs are getting expensive now. Now it would be crazy if someone wouldn't buy the EV3 because the NXT cost like $300 more than the EV3 in my country. 😐

BuilderDude35, do you know anything about the project? We read the judging, but I'd like to know if there's anything you figured out. How do you make a great FLL project? Two competitions to look into are FLL and WRO. I just released a video on the WRO competition, which hould help answer your questions. Go to the websites of either competition and you will find competition information, etc.

Yes, in 2013 (Senior Solutions) my team won the champions award in the Long Island Regional competition and competed in the World Festival in St. Louis, Missouri.
