EV3 Motor: • EV3 Large and NXT Moto...
There are a few things which I think you forgot to mention:
1. Because of the circular shape of the NXT motor, a J-beam fits very snugly around the end of the motor, and I often use this because it is easier to fix the motors at an angle this way.
2. The price, of course. NXT motors are a lot cheaper than EV3 motors, although prices vary by region.
3. Another minor difference is that you might notice on slightly more used NXT motors is that their shafts tend to wobble a tiny bit. Nothing major, but it may cause problems where accuracy is of the utmost priority. This can be easily fixed by fixing to beams on either side of the shaft with the help of the peg holes on the motor.

Loved the video. The only thing I think you missed, perhaps by intent, is price. For a pure engineer price may not be an issue, but for most ordinary folks it is. At the moment I have one EV3 brick which powers four NXT motors, why? Simply because the NXT motors are so much cheaper when buying them second hand. I bought those motors for 7 euro a piece. So 28 euro in total for the motors. Had I bought EV3 motors I would have been able to buy just one for that amount of money. I don't think that the benefits of the EV3 motor justifies the current market price difference.
Of course prices vary, while the basic properties you discussed remain constant. Which is probably the reason you left the price undiscussed.

I wish they weren't so awkwardly shaped, they're such a pain to build with compared to other motors

Due to its "Form Factor", the EV3 Large Motor cannot directly drive the common "Wheel 61.6mm D. x 13.6mm Motorcycle, with Black Tire 81.6 x 14.2 Motorcycle Z Racing Tread (2903 / 6596)" combination like the NXT motor can. Instead, the EV3 Large Motor must utilize the larger (and rarer) "Wheel Technic Street Bike (8420) with Black Tire Technic Street Bike (8420) - Narrow, Front (51378 / 51380)" combination.

That is a HiTechnic Angle sensor. I am not sure if they are still available.

The motors have a rotation sensor included. No need to use an extra sensor to measure the speed...

This video was very helpful, thanks!! I use your tutorials every now and then and they are always helpful and they work. Could you make a tutorial on how to make an rpm program for an ev3 L motor using the built in encoders? I have made one that works but glitches out when displaying the data, it seems to forget to reset some digits to zero but when I have it plugged in and debugging it shows all the data fine. I think it is a bug on the p brick, I'm not sure.

As far as I'm concerned, the NXT/EV3 sensors aren't worth comparing, as they are not interchangeable.
The motors have a rotation sensor included. No need to use an extra sensor to measure the speed...
This is true, and I have explored this in more recent tutorials. The purpose of the extra sensor is to have a consistent way of measuring speed for both, because it allows me to use the same instrument to measure the speed of both motors (to get the best comparison).
I always thought EV3 large motors were more powerful in torque.
he said nxt motors have higher driving/walking torque, but on the chart it said that ev3 motors had higher driving/walking torque, so he said that wrong. but pull torque, or whatever the other torque was, was better with NXT.
The rechargeable batteries are not compatible and they are very expensive If you want to use the NXT battery in the EV3, there is a solution, but it will no longer be usable in the NXT. The charger is the same. The tutorial is here: th-cam.com/video/-v08-6jZXGo/w-d-xo.html

The nxt motor is an SERVO motor
They are both servo motors.
I had e dead one of each motor and the torque speed difference is do to a slite difference in gearing the "core" is the same
PS I took the 2 dead units apart
Thanks for sharing! I already knew the core was the same, and I figured that they changed the gearing a bit to fit into the slightly different-shaped housing.
