- First field test after making a bunch of modifications...
Ok, so I got a Mini-Z. I kept away from these when the 4Runner came out. It looked weird. When the Jeep came out, I thought wow, good body but it didn't fit the chassis. It also looked weird. Then I saw the Jimny, and I thought wow! But that price! Then came the Jimny TS4. With new bumpers for better approach/depart angles, a kick-ass new tough look, and licensed APIO. So yeah, I couldn't resist. I got it 😎🤑
It is just as good as it looks too. I enjoyed every drive! Most others complain about the AAA batteries, but I thought it was great. I use Eneloop Pros and they would last for MORE than ONE HOUR of driving. And they weren't damaged if you forgot to turn off the truck like a lipo battery. My only beef with the stock Jimny was the steering servo. It was TERRIBLE. Usable, but for RC enthusiasts who like performance, it was unacceptable. Unfortunately, you can't just replace a servo in a Mini-Z. It's connected to the battery tray and has a proprietary connector. So, I decided to make a few mods...
Motor: Stock (want brushless, but not sure if any fit??)
ESC: Furitek Lizard w/Bluetooth Module
Servo: Emax 12g Digital with Metal Gears
Receiver: WPL RES-v3 (absolutely amazing for the price!!)
Lights: 3mm LEDs from eBay and the with WPL RES-v3, no need for light kit
Winch: small motor hidden in the chassis connected to the WPL RES-v3
Speaker: plugged into the WPL RES-v3
Shocks: RC4WD Micro Old Man Emu modified with original shock boots
Wheels/Tires: weighted tires made for the 4Runner (a bit bigger than stock)
Chassis: 3D printed electronics tray with servo mount
Receiver Box: styrene, and will dunk in PlastiDip once all the wiring is done
I hope you like the video. And if anyone is wondering if the Kyosho Mini-Z 4x4 Jimny TS4 is worth getting if you DON'T make any modifications... my answer is yes. It's an amazing truck and worth the $$. I'll post some video from the stock setup later on.
Aboslutely love the video, the editing is also very amazing. i am just wondering how you made the car waterproof!
Thank you! 🫶
I dunk my electronics in Plastidip. I think one of the MicroShark build videos shows a clip
Oh thank you very much for teaching me that! I’ve always wanted to waterproof my mini z 👍👍
beautiful car,great video friend🤙🤙
Thank you!
Very nice vidéo 👍😉 good job and beautiful jimny
Thank you! I’m going to be putting a brushless outrunner it it next week. The brushed motor with the Furitek inguana is ok, but a brushless will really make this truck great!
Thanks for the link :) The car looks great! Great video!
Thanks, glad you liked it!!
Wonderful RC
Thank you! I finally got the micro winch working last night. Once I get the roof lights installed, it will finally be done!
@@Benjamins_RC_Channel that sounds really cool
cool vid! big like!!👍👍👍
Thanks!
A wonderful nature course!
Thank you! I live close, but just discovered the location recently.
Haha, Thank you for a bonus footage🤣 Your mods are so great and I can't easily do the same.
Anyway, Your Mini-z is so good👍👍👍💯
Probably the river water is cold now. Take care of yourself. Thanks.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
awesome rc and great crawling adventure, subbed
Thanks! Many more to come. I had to take some time off because I started my own company and became self employed. Covid nearly killed my business, but I survived, thrived, and now I’m bustin’ the RCs back out for some fun!
Perfect vid bro...looking so real...😍
Great cars and spot💪
Keep it up champ👑
Thanks! 🤙🤙
Pretty nice little rig. 👍
Thank you, your channel is awesome!
Oh ❗ What a cool video ❗😃✨👍
And the car is well made ... You sell such small accessories ❓
No, sorry, I don't sell any accessories. But I find them all on Amazon and Ebay. Or at a local hobby shop. Searching for things can also be just as fun!
Did you lift up your body for bigger tires? That looks like no problem with tires for 4 runner.
No, I didn’t lift the body, but I did use different shocks. They only made a 2mm difference. Because I changed the stock servo the tires do rub the inner fender SLIGHTLY, but it’s really not a big deal and doesn’t affect performance.
Okay, thanks for your comments. I will believe you and I am gonna change my tires to 4 runner ones with my stock Jimny 👍🏻
Awesome vid and caption. Thanks for detailing your work. Just purshased an Apio and wanna run the 4runner wheels but without doing big modifications and high lift kit. Wanna stay scale looking as possible. is it possible to lift a bit to clear 4 runner wheels ? Do I need to modify the shocks mount as you did ? thanks bud
I didn’t raise the truck at all. No lift kit installed. I didn’t modify the shock mounts either… I modified the Old Man Emu shocks to fit the Jimny. The 4Runner wheels will rub if you use the stock servo, but with the stronger Emax servo, it’s able to steer past it.
@@Benjamins_RC_Channel Okay, understood :) Is the stock servo can be easily replace by the Emax servo ? Is it pluggable to the stock mini z esc ?
@@mountaintrailrc9434 read my video description. It literally answers your question
@@Benjamins_RC_Channel you're right 🤦🏻♂️ Amazong description, thanks for sharing 👍🏻 I'm interested by the servo tray if you share the .stl 🙂 because this mod looks so nice
@@mountaintrailrc9434 sorry, I don’t have a 3D printer. I bought the parts on eBay. Just search for mini-z electronics tray
Nice video, i just got my MiniZ Jimny and also want to try natural route like this, but was wondering is the car water proof? or you need to change some parts or apply water proof materials to go into water?
I replaced all the electronics with Furitek parts and dipped them in plastidip to seal them from water damage. You could do the same thing if you dip your stock electronics. You can also use conformal coating.
wich pinion did u use for the video? stock 12T?
Yes, stock 12T
Hi Benj RC, I just received My Furitek Lizard Pro and ive got it running on a 3s lipo but im stuck. I don't know how to connect the 2 wire kyosho motor to the Lizard Pro ESC, I really need to find a solution so I can get crawling once again. I appreciate and help you can give me on this! Thank You
Hey Bas C, the instruction that came with the Lizard Pro should show you how to connect it. Basically, the Pro can do both brushed and brushless. Brushless uses 3 connections and brushed only uses 2. Connect the two wires from the brushed motor to the MIDDLE motor wire and EITHER the left or the right motor wire on the Lizard Pro. Make sure you use the MIDDLE as one of the two or it won't work. You might have to cut the wires and do some soldering as I don't know what connectors they send with the Pro. Once that is done, you need to access the Lizard Pro via the bluetooth module and change the settings in the app from brushless to brushed. If the throttle is reversed, then just use the app to change it to the right direction. (I haven't used the Pro, so I'm basing my response on the regular Lizard)
@@Benjamins_RC_Channel thanks for your help! I’ll let you know how it goes
I just picked one up for myself and would like to build it like this. Do you mind sharing the shock length? Thanks
Can’t remember the length, but they are the RC4WD Old Man Emu shocks. I had to convert them to fit the mini-z
What servo and transmitter you using?
I added a emax servo and I'm using the WPL RES v3 transmitter/receiver. I like it because it has a winch, sound unit, light unit built in for $35
