    I saw Van Halen on June 20, 1981 at The Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles. It was Michael Anthony’s birthday, and this was the opening song. I saw Valerie Bertinelli and Heather Locklear sitting next to each other in front of the engineer’s set up at the back of the arena. That concert is the best show I’ve ever experienced. Twenty years later I installed a washer and dryer in Michael Anthony’s house. What a world.

    Saw them every year starting with the 1979 outdoor concert in Raleigh Raleigh NC with Poco, The Outlaws, Boston and the MIGHTY VH! Took some AWESOME pics that day up close atvthe stage. Every year after that I saw them in Hampton Va. I could not wait every summer to go see them. I even got 2 of Eds guitar pics! Had the time of my life! Also have AWESOME pics of them arriving at the back of the Coliseum in Hampton going for a sound check around 4 in the afternoon. Man i wish i could have those days back!

      I've heard a story from one of my dad's friends about that particular show or another show with the same lineup in a smaller venue in Eastern NC near or in Atlantic Beach.
      Mr. Rah claims that DLR went on stage and talked shit to "mofo" that threw ice at him. Pretty soon after Ol' Diamond Dave said: "The next mother...", a volley of solo cups descend on him from the audience lol.
      Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe that VH II had just been released or was about to be released?

    Wow, does this bring back memories and great times! Thanks for posting! I was fortunate to see them for my first concert ever in 1978 at the Chicago International Amphitheater on consecutive nights "backing up" Black Sabbath. Had 4th and then 11th row. I then saw them each year and each tour up close through 1984. Traveled to other close cities to watch them like Milwaukee. Was a magical time for the original Van Halen. Wish I could go back in time to experience them again for a single night!

    You learn so much just from the audio. The mere talent of being able to jam it out whenever you want too (and at the beginning no less) is so damn respectable. Music is obviously in their blood.

    God, I love, love, love the instrumental opening before the song kicks in at the 2.10 mark! By 1981, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who and UFO had all faded away (or were fading fast), and Van Halen was the only hard rock band left standing to rule the roost. And rule the roost they did! I'm no longer bitter about Sammy joining in 1984, because the classic six-pack is the stuff of legends (like Led Zep was in the 70's).

    • @congerz83
      @congerz83 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eddie broke a string. That was the reason for the long intro. He was buying time.

    • @zzyzxx13
      @zzyzxx13 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@congerz83 I don't know about that. It sounds to me like Eddie was playing for the first 1.50 or so before his guitar abruptly cuts out. It was at that point his guitar tech must have handed him a fresh guitar as there was only about 15 secs lag time before "On Fire" begins. Regardless, the first 1.50 intro before Eddie breaks a string is what I am digging.

    They were untouchable in the Mighty Van Halen Roth Era. And I can say the last album, was very very god darn special. They still had what would of been unreal. There was/ and always would be magic w/ Dave and Ed, and Alex that was what is their brand of rock and roll!! Now Wolfie coming in was that stack of Androl 50’s and test cycles needed to make that box of magic open again. I listened to the Live Tokyo Dome, and they had jams, with Dave scittin’ scatting, and i heard new catchy things!!! I am not saying The band didn’t produce great music when Hagar was in or Cherone. But Roth & Eddie together just made something a cut above all others. Its like Hendrix’s albums. I guess u can say Not of this Earth. When I pass on to the next life, heaven, the next dimension, I hope my baby ears hear, that familiar tone, and magic!!!! Who knows maybe another level they don’t break in ‘84, or they make more albums w/ Wolfie in the band!!!

    It really sucks, but with a band like VH, I wish there were many more shots. I mean it was 1981, and you’d think some audio/video footage would be better than The Wizard Of Oz, but because of no one being allowed to take the cameras in, we are stuck with whatever we can get. Because those morons in the 80s and 70s didn’t allow cameras, we are stuck with this….

VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER....ROTH IS ABSOLUTELY THE GREATEST FRONTMAN ROCK AND ROLL HAS EVER SEEN....THIS GUY BACK IN THE DAY DIDN'T HAVE A "SIX PACK"...HE HAD AN 8 PACK HE WAS SO LEAN!!!!! IT'S THOSE SPLITS OFF THE DRUM RISER AND AMAZING KICKS AND MOVES THAT NOBODY HAD EVER SEEN THAT SEPERATED HIM FROM JAGGER...TYLER...ETC..IMHO. SAMMY HAS A VERY GOOD VOICE BUT IS AN AWFUL FRONTMAN....1 OF THE LEAST EXCITING I'VE EVER SEEN. GREAT ROCK BANDS DON'T ALL HAVE PERFECT VOICES.... LIKE JAGGER DOESN'T HAVE A PERFECT VOICE BUT IT'S JUST RIGHT FOR THE STONES..NOBODY CAN REPLACE JAGGER W THE STONES..PERIOD. BRIAN JOHNSON FOR AC DC...A SCREAMER BUT PERFECT FOR AC DC..IMO BETTER THAN THE PREVIOUS GUY... I MEAN BACK IN BLACK IS A PERFECT HARD ROCK ALBUM AND ONE OF THE GREATEST SELLING ALBUMS OF ALL TIME.
