I certainly enjoyed this video. Thank you for not putting any music over the video, that keeps it very calm and true. The B-Roll sound is sufficient. Keep it up, Craig! Also, the images were all great, as always. I especially liked the second one with the caravan. You managed to capture that scene very well.
Great shots! Especially the one with the caravan. When you were saying goodbye I thought the oak tree in the background with the road leading up to it looked like a great composition.
Excellent as always-stunning pics. Like the use of tilt for DOF. These videos are both charming and super useful. I am using them with two high school students in a weekly photo class. Seeing a real pro in the field really helps. They now know why tripods are still essential and the importance of slowing down. And yes, Barney is a big hit. !!

Hi Craig. Just found your site, lovely. I too have a couple of MPP's and have had them on a shelf for 30 years ! I am just about to get my act together and try and sort out some film supplies. Your films have spurred me on I just need to get a plan together. Thanks for the prompt ;-)
Impressed by you dogs problem solving skills. lol The effort taken and the complexity of it all reminds me of an artist setting up his gear and painting the scenery. Impressive results though, but I could never reach this level of sophistication. You are a true professional and an artist.
Very relaxing video Craig as always...7 secs at f/45 now that is a proper exposure !! Love that little Olympus XA, great little rangefinder, if I remember they did it in a snazzy red as well (though that may have just been the XA2)...may have to have a look for one !!
Always enjoy your vids Craig. I also love the natural sound rather than some annoying music (I am an ex professional musician by the way!) . The caravan shot worked really well yet I had doubts before I saw the final result. That's what can be so great about film. You never really know for sure til it comes out the tank. Thanks again.
Thank you. Yes, I'm always intrigued to pull that film out of the tank. It adds another dimension to the whole process. I'm sometimes disappointed with the results but I was pretty pleased with how the caravan turned out.
I really enjoy you videos Craig. They inspired me to go out with my Graflex. I was always so intimidated to take it out bu your videos really gave me the much needed motivation. Give Barney a pet for me!
New viewer here. I love these videos, they are so peaceful. I'm so glad your videos do not have any music as the sounds of nature are always pleasant. As someone who lives in a city I appreciate the pure ambient sounds of nature. Thanks.

Hello Craig, great job, I like foma film too. I like your way of photographing, which is how I do, I have only a short time to dedicate! Greetings from Italy! p.s. a caress to Barney!
Very nice. The photos were interesting and came out well. I was expecting you to take a picture of the road at the end, with bright yellows on both sides, vanishing path, and blue sky with white clouds.
I just bought a Busch Pressman 4X5 that I will soon be testing once the film arrives, but I will also will experiment with shooting onto paper, i also have two Kodak 3A that I will take on the same shoot and will use both film and paper on them, my plans is to shoot them side by side for comparison. I am watching your videos for pointer on how to do a good shoot.
Great video. Always relaxing, and a learning experience for me. Thought that your photo of the trailer ( as we say here in the states) was the best, especially with the filtering bringing out the character of the sky and clouds. The gnarly tree is another interesting composition. Appreciate your review of your bag. Are you happy with it? Looks like a nice set up. I have a Graflex camera, and don't have a good bag for it, may well give yours a try.
First time on your channel. Excellent photography! You have a good eye. Makes me itch to dig out my Mamiya RB67 and load it up with HP5 and have a day outside. I think I might do that! Also, subscribed!
Nice images, I've been playing around with medium format. I been thinking about picking up a large format camera what should someone look for when selecting a large format camera?
That's a tricky one if you're starting from scratch. You can buy a camera at the cheaper end, but there's a lot of extras you need that push the cost up. Hiring to try is not really an option either. The MPP used here was the first one I bought and it came with a 135mm lens. It's not a bad way to go. It's well built, compact, good to learn the basics and then you can decide if you like it or not. You probably wouldn't lose any money if you decided to sell should it not work out.
Hi Craig, nice trip, doggie and photos..nice location, too..as largest film format I`m using a 6,5x6 Voigtländer Avus plate kamera ( with roll film), I love it, but often it would be nice to have wider lenses..what camera would you recommend to start with 4x5? cheers
Hi Andreas, I've only been using this MPP recently and had use of a Horseman years ago. So I don't have experience with lots of different makes. There are cheaper cameras like Intrepid but I've not tried one myself.
I use a stripped-down 4x5 press camera, a Busch Pressman, the lightest setup I could find, and a quality camera with limited lens movements. The price was right, too.
So wonderful that you take the time to share and guide us through the story, through your explorations! Was that a lens flare on the penultimate photo, on the left-hand side?
@@CraigPrentisPhoto Great. Thanks. On video they look very good to me and I don't see any flaws or Newton's rings. Do you use the Epson classic mask? Do you use anti-newton glass?

It detracts from the natural aspects, but tells a story even so. I find it confusing that people do it, having never had the urge myself. What compels them to carve initials into a tree or a rock? With adding more filter holders to build up the rings to thread on the red filter, do you find there is an issue with vignetting, or are you correcting in camera?
No vignetting as such but the third shot was a bit tricky with the tilt movement. Could see the rings/holders coming into the shot so had to watch out for that.
Hi Craig, I use a Pentax Spot Meter V So I cant average the light. well I don't know how to do an average reading. I usually meter for the dark spot and close one stop or open depending on what I want the image to look like. Might you know how I can do an average calculation on my meter? Thanks, Dominique.
I haven’t used that particular spotmeter but when I meter a scene myself, I do something similar to you. Meter for the darkest area that needs some detail and the brightest highlight and see what the exposure range is. I’ll usually stop down 1-2 stops from the darkest area and it tends to give me a very usable neg. I can usually just see the average point on the lcd display when the dark and highlight meter readings have been saved.
Nice video. Just found your channel and subscribed. Fomapan 100 is nice, although I personally prefer Fomapan 200 rated at 100 ISO. Perhaps one should try both (just a roll or so on a medium format camera).
Thanks, yes I've tried Fomapan 200 in 120. I'm moving on to some Adox CHS100 II next. Might be worth a comparison with my last sheets of Foma and my FP4.
Craig! This is a great 'go to whoa' video! Question: you developed your Fomapan for...er...was it 12 minutes??? WHY so lonnnng, when suggested time is 5mins in Ilford?
Nice pics and video. I keep getting closer and closer to trying out large format. By the way, the birds chirping sound in the background was added in post right? Just curious.
Thanks. Yes, I try to record some clean ambient sound each time I go out from the area I'm in. I usually set the recorder up and leave it running for about 10 mins and that way I can add it in as a track in itself.
Craig Prentis on the shot of the caravan you did shoot with your point & shoot camera...is it to use the compact camera as a sort of note book or any other reason?
Yes, I just use it to take various shots along the way as I can't shoot everything on LF. It's interesting comparing a 35mm frame with a shot on 4x5 as well!
We have the same camera, even the leather strap, the caravan shot was excellent and the 13.05 shot bar the flare, annoying especially if you have spent hours on it, subbed.
