Sometimes you just don't want to say anything. I've been wanting to make a video with only natural sound for a while now. Ironically, it took me twice the time to edit this one. How does that happen? I hope you like it. Comments, likes, new subs, shares etc are always much appreciated. Thanks for watching.
I never say anything on my videos but often use music along with natural sounds. I always find the naturel sound bit difficult mostly due to either wind noise or traffic noise even when it's from a distance ! I find I have to sit editing out the traffic noise etc.... and it takes ages. So I understand what you are saying because I often think it would be easier to talk. I really enjoyed this so it was worth the extra effort spent :D Thank you
Luckily, this was in an area of minimal traffic noise which is always the killer for a peaceful woodland type shoot. I could have done with a few more cows and sheep though.
I rather like your commentary but I found this to be super cool! Kudos for managing to capture the sounds so well! I kept looking to see where you might be keeping the mic (never could find it). Glad I'm not the only one that enjoys the sounds of 4x5 cameras as well.
Lovely to experience that photography session with you. It strikes me how much effort you put into this one, filming all those details from different perspectives. The same amount of effort you put into all of your videos. thank you so much for sharing this!
Amazing as always in this non-spoken video. Pictures are worth, what? a thousand words? This process of visualization, patience, and technique are exemplary. I totally get it- what you are going for and the results. From the mundane artifact to the art. Thanks to you I am using Fomapan as well with my 4x5 Wista-a new adventure. Of course Barney is a reassuring presence.
And that is how you do a photography vlog with no narration! Captivated from start to finish. The MPP really is a beautiful machine, and you came back with a trio of superb studies as well. Fantastic.
This exactly the kind of video I can watch over and over, no need for narration because you can already hear what’s going through your head. Please make more of these.
Wonderful Craig. Photography is like art, let the painting and images speak for themselves! I love the peace and tranquility I get when walking and just in my "zone". Indeed I just came back from 3 hours walking around the meadows and wetlands near my house, starting at 5.30 in the morning and the subdued light, birds singing and peace is sublime! The photos I took speak for themselves. More of this please.
That's a great time to go out walking. I like doing that myself and it's a good time to record ambient sound for later use before all the traffic gets going.
Wonderful Video, and thank you for providing the basic info to help me.. grasp the little things like the need to have filters during a shoot. Because it's the little things that turn a picture into art..
I have no idea what the one thumbs down was expecting, but it wasn’t watching and appreciating a true photographer meticulously go about capturing some wonderful images. An excellent video, wonderfully shot, very well done indeed.
I have no problem with that. People do what they've got to do. There'll be plenty more of that to come. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. Thanks for your feedback once again.
Really lovely video and well put together. Found it to be quite relaxing to watch. Sure does take a good amount of time to set up. Things that I take for granted for sure shooting digital. Cheers
Loving the "ambient" episode. I would reckon not the easiest thing to produce - making sure all sounds are there for the view to hear etc. Just read your comment below and not surprised it took longer to edit. Spring is a great time to do this because of birdsong etc. Great job on the filming, editing etc - oh ye, and I like the end result (images) too.
Thanks Alan. The sound is by no means perfect but I was conscious about getting the levels balanced and the transitions smooth so I definitely spent longer on that this time.
I love silent shooting videos as well! They are fun as you feel more of the ambiance of the surroundings, it's like if we were there with you. My latest video was a silent one too! When you have an audience of french speaking and english speaking followers this way it's good for all! haha! Cheers Craig !
Works for me - I love the sounds of nature and the 'natural sounds'. It still showed everything that is important though I also like the calm way you usually explain what you do. The images work great as a triptych. Oh, and I am glad to see Barney again ;-)
What a great idea. Your videos are always relaxing without the music, but this one is cool. Nice to see how you explore the scene and find your composition. Very effective. And the photos are great! I've got some Arista EDU 100, which i've heard is Fomopan. Must get out and shoot it. Well done.
Love it Craig! Such a refreshing video style, letting the photos speak for themselves. Great work on the cinematics/b-roll too! Looking forward to more 👌
Great video. As a bit of a sound nerd, I loved being able to listen to the sounds you heard while out shooting. It was both very soothing and really focused me more on your process and the act of taking a photo. I hope you'll do more of those types of videos in the future.
The thoughtfulness, care, and attention to detail in every shot is stunning and mesmerizing. So much respect for how elegantly and patiently you executed both the photography and video aspects of the experience.
Absolutely love this style of video. Your presentations are alway very interesting and informative, but to say nothing and just to allow us to watch can be a very powerful experience.
Craig, I commend you for you’re production quality of this vlog. The time, thought and effort you put into making this is second to none. Fantastic. I admire what you are producing on your channel. Great images and as good as it gets production. Well done and thanks.
Capturing three photos, separately every interval by using, the classic view camera, is something very interesting and enjoyable, with a black and white flat film, that needs to develop every shot separately, in to adjust exposure manually by spot meaning, is something of great effort and more patient, so my heartedly congratulations for your awesome Artwork dear Craig wishing you more continuation, of success for seeing more of your expressive Artwork.
I find that you always have something interesting to say in your videos. In this one, you said it with ambient sound and, as always, beautiful photography. Typically, you have allowed your wonder dog to upstage you in several scenes-marking the spot was particularly dog. I look forward to more. Thanks.
I thought I'd leave that in. It actually shows that you viewed the video all the way to the end, so thanks! I might put one in for each video now as a sort of calling card ;-)

Hi Craig, really enjoyed this! It was a very welcome break from videos where people just talk too much! There's a great sense of what you experience, especially helped by the lav mic and the excellent continuity of filming. On the subject itself, have you considered Tyneham? I've never been but read about it. Good work, well done. Even better would be a proper darkroom print ;) Best wishes. Juno x
Hi Juno, thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I think I'll do some more of these 'quiet' ones. I've quite enjoyed the sound recording side of doing these videos and I'm always trying to improve on the quality and the overall experience for the viewer. No I haven't been to Tyneham, but it looks an interesting place. One day, I'll get myself set up with a darkroom. That would finish the analog process off quite nicely. Cheers.
Yes, please, more ‘quiet’ ones. There’s a bunch of us out there who love the sharing of experience and less of the ‘this is how you should do it’ banter’ 😊
Another great video! • I think the ken burns style of showing the negatives is really cool, it gives a great perspective of the Negative to Positive. • I noticed some blurry edge at the top of the second image, Was that because of the ND filter or is just some leaf movement happening? The quality of the video looks really good too.
Thank you. Well spotted with the second image. Yes, it has lost some sharpness - I think it's due to a combination of pushing the lens to its limits, the front rise (quite a bit) and slightly dodgy camera movements on my part. I'm still learning every day with that old camera and focusing is a little tricky when movements are required.
Craig Prentis when the weather is unstable and could surprise you with shower why not having a piece of plastic in your bag to cover the camera just for a bit? Quite annoying to work out the composition again and the focusing...
@@CraigPrentisPhoto I have a poncho raincoat in my bag, it fits the camera and it covers the tripod as well.
