    You are not supposed to cut the stopper of the carbon brush cover. Once you install the carbon brush you have to push down the carbon one after the other and insert the cover, the part you cut is to hold the carbon, then screw the carbon holder back to the alternator and push down the cover. The carbon will release and contact to the slip ring.

    Hi. Really useful video!
    I’ve got exactly the same alternator and would need to change the brushes but just not sure of the size or model of those brushes. Would you be able to give me a part number or anything so I know exactly what to buy? Thanks

    Great video man thanks, but I’m not very car savvy. Where can I get a starter brush replacement for a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i? I can probably figure out how to disconnect my alternator and swap out an old brush for a new one

    Is there an upgrade to brushless alternator? or at least a kit to convert it to a brushless alternator? to increase efficiency, life span & give constant power!

    • @MrFryfish
      @MrFryfish ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is NOT a such thing. The principle of creating electric current for the battery, to charge the battery will remain the same. It is about creating electric current for a mechanical force (rotation of the rotor) by INDUCTION of a magnetic field into THE STATOR and from there getting collected by those brushes the he replaced.
      Anyway, those brushes should 2-3 hundred thousand of miles.. which is enough. In this time the bearings could fail EVEN if a brushless alternator it is ever being created! Nothing last forever!

    • @will_doherty
      @will_doherty 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrFryfish In an alternator the field current is delivered by the brushes, and the generated power is taken from the stator windings. The why the stator wire is many times bigger in capacity than the field wires. This is one of the principal differences between old type generators and the alternators that have replaced them. (DC output, low output at low revs of traditional generators being the two others).

      @@will_doherty (DC output, low output at low revs of traditional generators being the two others).
      Show me a pure DC output generator and I will eat it..

    • @will_doherty
      @will_doherty 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrFryfish Early generators (upto the 60's in the UK) fitted to vehicles had a multipole commutator from which the generated power was taken, and passed to the regulator for control. They produced power that didn't need rectification - i.e. DC. I can guarantee that try as you might, you'd not eat one without mechanical assistance!

    • @MrFryfish
      @MrFryfish 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@will_doherty I am sorry but I cannot just take/admits just words from you. A link would have helped you in proving that DC can be produced DIRECTLY out of winding.. OR AN INDUCED MAGNETIC FIELD can produce not AC, but DC current.. I am afraid I cannot believe. / A RECTIFIER always did it.. bigger or smaller, it was still needed if the current required were DC. Understood?

    De ce ai tăiat plasticul ăla?
    Când montezi regulatorul pe alternator, acel plastic de protecție se montează jumătate, nu îl împingi de tot. În felul ăsta ține cărbunii comprimați. După ce ai montat releul, decât împingi la maximum acel plastic de protecție și cărbunii se eliberează, atingând colectorul.

    • @MrFryfish
      @MrFryfish ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you have to cut that plastic. You cannot fit the brushes and SOLDER THEM without posibility of attaching that cover afterwards..
      That cover is factory fitted so it has no chance of falling off. Anyway there is a very small chance of falling it. From someone who rebuild similar alternator, replacing bearings, brushes, collectors.. I mean REBUILD IT.

    • @MrFryfish
      @MrFryfish ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you do. At least 150w. You will have to desolder 3x thick wires that goes to stator and those suck a lot of heat until desoldering and sodering is happening and is reliable!
