  • The US - China trade war has been receiving more and more attention... rightfully so at the end of the day in light of the fact that we are talking about the world's #1 and #2 economies.
    At the title makes clear, this video is all about explaining the United States - China trade war in a comprehensive manner: from causes and reasons (on both sides) to specific measures such as US tariffs and Chinese retaliation.
    While the reasons behind the US - China trade war are quite complex, it's not all that difficult to understand the big picture, to wrap your head around the various causes of the tensions between the United States and China.
    As explained through this animation, it would be a mistake to assume that the United States could easily win a trade war against China. On the one hand, sure, that would definitely be both possible and hassle-free if China doesn't retaliate but realistically speaking... how likely is that to happen? Not very :)
    The main message transmitted and explained through this video should therefore be crystal-clear: there's a very high likelihood that the trade war between the US and China will only have losers and as such, preventing further escalation is the name of the game!

    To dodge the tariffs Chinese companies are already investing in countries like Vietnam who benefitted from the tariffs on Chinese imports.
    Also, posessing so many US currency reserves makes China itself highly invested in the value of the US dollar, and as there is no other viable world reserve currency as yet, China liquidating lots of US dollars is unlikely.

    • @OneMinuteEconomics
      @OneMinuteEconomics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that scenarios pertaining to an aggressive/immediate liquidation of China's US dollar position are overly simplistic at best. However, a controlled long-term exit... that's an entirely different story :)

    I think you should explain why you are stating off with the assumption that a trade deficit is an inherent disadvantage. China gives us goods. We are better off for that. The dollars are less important than the materials we receive for those dollars, or we wouldn't be making the trades.

      The United States has imposed massive tariffs on Chinese exports on the vague argument of ‘theft’ of US intellectual property and “discriminatory” transfer of technology requirements. This is inconsistent with the WTO rules. The US argument ignores that China has implemented its obligations under the WTO Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (“TRIPS Agreement”), and that in some areas has even introduced TRIPS-plus provisions.

    China should boost its internal economics and strengthen its local companies. Don't need to rely too heavily on foreign companies and investments; otherwise its economy is at the "mercy" of foreigners. Same goes to scarce minerals control.
