One thought, not "everybody in the world wants to come to America" thank God. Fewer and fewer people do. "Everybody" - that sounded like a half remembered memory 20 year old spin.
The US is undergoing net migration at the moment.

Farmers income and bankruptcy spike was also due in large part to massivie flooding in the spring that led to late planting and destruction of reserves in stills .... multiplied by early fall frosts.... 2019 maybe the worst in production from the US grain belt produced in decades .... banking on a tremendous 2020 harvest .... also take into account monsnato and company beating the shit outta farmers for decades with their seeds, GMO, non heirloom.... meaning you have to buy seeds every year ... folks you have to self educate ... why Joey ... why waste my time as you do taking hours every day 7 days a week be it 7am or 4am and every free moment in between studying this .... ANSWER ..... Because the only thing more important then health is food and water.... and money comes in close to the finish line.... health.... food.... water...... money... if these things do not effect you ... then your either homeless and already in a personal SHTF ... or your in denile .... because its just so much easier to ignore such things and live in a world of sunshine, rainbows, unicorns and blunts ! Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

As a Chinese, I would tell you the fact that even if these companies dont do business with China, Chinese company will eventually do their own research to make competitive products and dominate their own large market, even international ones. (Examples are 5G of Huawei, Drone Company like DJI, etc) But if they do business with China, most Chinese companies wont bother wasting their own money do R&D for new products. Cause even if they do, their price wont be able to compete with those already mass manufactured ones from western companies in a shorter timeframe.
So in a shorter time-frame, the best approach for western companies are doing business to occupy Chinese market before local companies do.
So in past decades, a very common phenomenon you would see is western companies sell high value-added products with a very high price to Chinese people. Then some Chinese companies who don't wanna be "exploited" would invest money to try making the same products. And once they finally do, the western companies will lower the price of these high value-added products and start a normal price war. (Though a lot western companies got destroyed this way cause they can no longer sell their products at an insane price to the world. ) But of course, there are still a lot examples that western and Chinese companies having a long-run partnership and benefiting each other, competition don't necessary means "kill" each other.
For me, I think it's a win-win situation cause western companies got the chance to make huge amount of money from China and had an head start priority into the competition of Chinese market, but hardworking Chinese people got the courage to overcome technology barriers on their own. It might be seems time-wasting, money-wasting, but it's definitely good practice for Chinese companies to upgrade themselves to the same level as western ones.
Anyway, Chinese companies are rapidly transferring themselves from copier, cheap brand stereotypes into innovative ones. That's what the Made in China 2025 truly stands for.
I hope you find this information valuable.

@Shadow Gamer The problem is , can US really sustain the damage on itself after "cutting ties in any aspects of business" with China? Even if US can, what about rest of the world?
Also remember US government is heavily influenced by US enterprises and big money behind it. Cutting ties between China wont make them happy. As long as Chinese don't do things stupid enough like Pearl Harbor or 911 which enrage the entire country of US, I don't see this kind of extreme movement can be made by US government. But, who knows? At least for now it's Trump in the white house.

Your research is good but you forgot to mention few things :
First, there are a number of American companies that do business in China. Some of their goods are consumed in China, which are not calculated in the bilateral trade. You hardly see any Chinese companies in the U.S. but there are everywhere in China. For example, McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks, general motor, chevron, Apple,Safegate, Oracle and Tesla etc
Secondly, many chinese students and tourists travel to the U.S. than that of America. The service surplus is also ignored in the export to China.
Thirdly many exports to the U.S. are done by American companies so it's American companies that are benefiting.
I do agree that it's a power issue. The U.S. is leading the world with its technology and made in China 2025 is the biggest threat to its leadership. If that happens, no one needs American dollars anymore. The sad part is that the U.S. has so many enemies globally. China helped America back in 2008 but once American stock bubble pops out, I can only see China shorting it further while the American government seeking fund internationally.

@Andersson Sebastian Pat can't go through all the dynamics - not enough time, he has other things to do, and the subject matter is vast. This is a concise overview of the dynamics, and hopefully will impel others to dig deeper in the subject. For example, this is the reason why Trump is putting up billions in farm subsidy, to help with the transition away from servicing the China market. Many farmers anticipated trouble, however, and have either phased out the crop, or sold to expanded hog farming (or gone into hogs themselves). The soy "ban" by China is partly a result of China destroying its hog livestock - apparently culling for disease, and we're talking more than 3/4 billion hogs. So the US farmer is adapting to the changing market - interesting times.

We don't remotely need china though, our economy isn't primarily based on our trade with china as we buy things from them rather than selling, what china makes mostly is lower quality items at extremely low prices the majority of which are non necessity and have alternatives, most of these alternatives cost more but that isn't always true and often the reason things from Korea or Japan cost more is due to the quality of components and of course labor (but with most chip/capacitor factories being automated that's a small aspect with electronic components which is the primary chinese good)

Thank you, very well said. As a military officer and aviator, I have been throughout the world, from the Prime Meridian to past the International Dateline, From Fairbanks, Alaska to Kito, Ecuador. I have seen how in general terms and per capital, the American people have a very good standard if living. People in other countries tend to make do with what they have and don't squander or waste their personal resources on frivolous items.
Recently, I was a Building and maintenance director for a relatively large school district. It was very irritating hearing teachers and administrators pissing and moaning because some of their offices and classrooms were 74 degrees, rather than 72 degrees. Yeah, they would constantly complain the room was too hot when it was 74 degrees and some complained when the rooms were actually 72 degrees. We would show them the T-stat was displaying the correct temp as compared to our calibrated instruments. This bitching about room temps is very frustrating for my men, who at times are up on rooftops for several hours a day, where rooftop surface temps exceed 140 degrees and the air temp is inside the parapet is about 110 to 120 degrees. This is just one of the countless examples of symptoms demonstrating the weakness of the new candy ass American character.
It really is telling, just how soft and sissified the American public has become. This glaring reversal of the traditional American character of 'rugged individualism' and pioneer spirit has been completely engineered and insidiously and innocuously executed.
To meet their Luciferian goal of a One-World-
Government and religion, the traditional concepts and notions of American liberty interests must be lambasted, ignored, removed and reversed. Part of this process has been the degradation of the image of the 'John Wayne' patriotic, all American personality type; this image has been replaced with the metro-sexual or the phony G.I. Jane or Captain Marvel psyops.
I can tell you from first hand experience, the military has made huge accomodations and lowered standards and softened up training and operational regimens to attract and allow women to function in the combat billets. The men who fought in places like Bastogne or Iwo Jima would cry in anguish to see or learn what has happened to their military.
The average mentally lethargic American will still remain ambivalent and uninformed because their bellies are full.
Ultimately, when the Second Amendment is removed and other 'thought police' legislation is enacted and when they have mostly everybody by the balls(chemically induced tiny balls), the draconian Agenda 21/Agenda 2030 edicts will be forced upon the public; then when their bellies are no longer full, the public may start to wake up, but by then, it will be too late.

This video is so ignorant on economic principles that's very difficult to criticize it since I don't know where to start. Just let me point out that: 1) trade deficit is a meaningless metric; trade means exchange of one good for another one. Deficit only means that the other country is taking the papers and that we are keeping the goods.
    2) if America intended to make iPhones in the US or even outside Chine it'd make iphones so expensive that Apple would break. The whole idea of thinking about manufacturing as the way of becoming rich or having a middle class income is bananas. That's not how xxi century works. Those jobs are already lost to machines. People have the alternative to train themselves and to move to another state or country.
    3) If this was a struggle between American freedom and Chinese repression then tariffs make us lose since tariffs are taxes and taxes are a contradiction to freedom.

We started doing more business with China as a helper to aid us through the cold times in our economy, and we helped China on being the #2 economy country in the world. The us economy hasn't recovered and people know it. I know my dad lost his job in 2003 due to China and them taking over the company.

You are correct. We can afford to pay american workers but not their lawyers damage. Big bucks to defend against lawsuits and to pay outrageous settlements. Motorola used to actually assemble cellphones in the USA. A lawyer for a minority working there won a $ 1,000,000 discrimination lawsuit for not being promoted. She got 700,000 the lawyers got 300,000. The following day all 300 minorities filed suit. Motorola was looking at a $300,000,000 expense for trying to provide decent jobs. They closed the plant and moved assembly to China.

just wanna add some more point because i dont think you are addressing the full picture here Pat please read this because things are not as simple as the mainstream media show it :
1.let's start with the trade deficit because no one is pointing out that the way america do business with china is different than the way they do business with us most american company dont export their good to china they SET SHOP OVER THERE and produce their product and SELL IT in china just think about apple for example iphone is being made and sold over there but the money come back to the us or go to irland you get the point
So when you here about the trade deficit thing it's not showing the full picture here is an article cnbc did that elaborate more on this with numbers
    www.cnbc.com/video/2019/05/21/forget-trade-deficit-heres-the-number-that-tells-a-different-story-of-us-china-trade.html
    2. About the who need the other more issue yes it is true that NOW a lot of china companies need the us as a market but you are forgeting that china is still a growing market the middle class is exploding over there while here it is shrinking and china started to switch their economy toward a consumption model back in 2014 anyway
    www.bain.com/about/media-center/press-releases/2018/china-pushes-towards-a-consumption-driven-growth-model/
3.finally about the leverage issue and i just wanna say that im no chinese chill but we cant hope to win this battle without a clear strategy based on a real understanding on the issues we are facing the chinese have a plan just like Pat said trump doesnt seem to have a plan and if he think tariffs alone are the plan than we are truly fucked
so about the leverage that's actually where trump plan fall apart because china can withstand tariffs not just for another year or two but possibly even for a decade and by then the picture of the world will be totally different THEY WONT NEED THE US ANYMORE

    • @chinaprise
      @chinaprise 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Regarding your first point about CNBC news, this isn't entirely true. I had lived in China for 10 years and foreign companies that set up shop in China can't sell their foreign products in China unless it is exported out of China. Foreign companies operating in China must export their products out of China and then import their products back into China. It is a very strange system because these products are made in China, but yet, they must be exported out of China to be legally allowed to be sold in China. This is also why all foreign products in China are more experience than local products, somewhere around 15-30% more expensive.

The unemployment rate talk shows that while this is a great video from a financial analysis perspective, he doesn't actually know the Chinese system at all.
"Socialism without Chinese characteristics" isn't just a catchword, the Chinese take it quite seriously. Whenever the government detects regional unemployment getting too high, they create a large number of low paying work thru state-owned enterprises, social services, community organizations, etc. The wages suck, but it's enough to sustain basic needs and keep these people busy enough so they aren't forced into crime. That's why unemployment rate in China is so stable -- not because CCP is making up figures.
China is a capitalist system built on top of a socialist state. Using pure market analysis on them SIMPLY. DOESN'T. WORK.

I agree. PB-D doesn't say much about quality of life/poverty. Our country has a privatized utility system and mortgage backed securities that mean Americans can't make a living wage from building furniture. In our country, if you're making said furniture, it's either out of recycle pallets for flea markets, or it's polished driftwood for hipsters riding their parents coat tails. They also have a more lenient attitude when it comes to pollution/industrial waste. But, once they actually earn enough money to take vacations that will probably change.

Even Trump’s puppet in the UK, Boris Johnson, said at the G7 conference in France that Trump was making a mistake. Trump is having to subsidise American farmers as a result of tariffs and the average American household is spending more money because of the trade war, adding insult to injury for the fake tax break Trump promised them.
