I love Bullet Heart/Star and I was so happy to see you reviewing this! Just to add to your final comments towards the end - if you don't like feeling time pressured or the "take-that" mechanics of tossing bullets at each other, the boss mode allows you to work as a team against any one of the unused characters. This mode doesn't require a timer either, and there are some interesting mechanics to help you work as a team (e.g. passing bullets to each other to help complete patterns and clear bullets). You can also play as teams (2v2), which has the same team mechanics in boss mode but also the "take-that" aspects of the free-for-all, and doesn't have a timer! I love that this game has several different modes of playing all in one package, and what really sold me on it was that it's even great to play solo! (solo only works for certain game modes ofc but it's still a blast!) Also, I highly recommend getting coin capsules for the tokens/bullets (if not the deluxe tokens L99 Games also sells). It makes handling the bullets sooooo much more satisfying (and also protects the relatively flimsy cardboard punch-outs)
2:41 you unfortunately cannot move bullets up, you can only move them left, right, or down. Moving bullets up I think is unique to a handful of characters from Heart(Adelheid, Mariel, etc.) Still a wonderful game! I own Heart and am looking for a Star copy to own :D EDIT: Also at 4:05, she takes a bullet from her Current(individual black bag) as opposed to the example, where he took a bullet from Planil's Sight(individual board)
Minor corrections, but yeah, can confirm these are accurate. To clarify, the movement rules are just whatever that action says, at the top-left of your character-specific action board (which is shown on the right). Plainil's only lets her move left, right, or down, which is the most common movement ability, but there's a bunch of variations across all of the characters.
i was so confused when he said "for example you can move this up" when he had just read what it does and the arrows on the ability symbol were still on screen 😅 like, I had been wondering five seconds before that why you'd ever want to move a bullet down (ig to make the needed pattern?) and he went "you could move this up" and i instinctually went "no u can't" lmao

How can anyone say this game has no interaction? Literally you can obliterate someone by sending them tokens that hurt them the most. Last man standing is so so fun

Seems interesting but the tokens not being double sided bothers me. Is the reason for that to make the real time part harder or was the company just being cheap? That's just begging for an upgrade with double sided tokens.
When you clear bullets to an opponent, they are not supposed to be able to know what bullets you sent them. So they are placed into opponents' incoming zones facedown on the blank side. Additionally, there are some characters in Bullet heart, either as playable versions or the boss versions, that use the blank side of bullets as "wild" colors or numbers for their patterns. So, it's an intentional design choice
That's by design. Bullets are passed face-down, so the opponent can't (easily) see what you sent them and prepare for it. Also, there are heroines who flip bullets face-down, e.g. Adelheid from ❤️, who treats face-down bullets as any color.
I own this and Bullet Heart, and there are deluxe tokens which you can buy from the company which are wooden and thick and really nice. They are still not double sided however because you are drawing the tokens from the bag blind, and are supposed to remain blind about what they are (also some other situations call for them to be blank). The bag handles the majority of not seeing what you are drawing or adding to the bag until you've drawn it from the bag but the blank side helps with that too.
