In his neighborhood in Philly he was known as Mr. Sonny. On any giving day you would see him at the ice cream truck handing out treats to all the kids in the neighborhood. I can’t stop listening to this song. It brings tears to my eyes because it’s so beautiful. Sounds like he beamed down to Brazil.
This is from 1974 WXPN philly radio broadcast My name is Douglas Gaines I played drums on this entire session but is not credited along with Michael Fuller I also sang with Ebah on Space is the Place
wow. thanks for the information. any insights into the Sun Ra-Ark interactions regarding songwriting, creativity, working out drum parts (or did he leave every inspiration to the individual Arkestra members, etc.), would be most welcome. anyways, fantastic Mr. Douglas Gaines! may you all Sail Together for eternity!
Beautiful! LOVE Sun Ra's simpler, more accessible, more lyrical and rhythmic tracks....like this one! The visuals in this video work really well too! Congrats to whoever put this together.
Mine too. This and Springtime Again are really great. I think those of his works that have a bit of a traditional structure and recurring rhytms are the absolute best. I hope there's more like that to be found. :)
i haven't found where this song is within Ra's vast vast collection of music but I sure do like this song & video. "Lets here it for Mister Sun-ny Raaayy!"

Took a walk in a park and cried to this song it’s so beautiful.
I did this same thing in 2016… was the only thing to get me through a horrid argument with a dear friend
I see what you mean, its a Sun Ra Samba piece. Makes you sad and happy at the same time.

There is something about Sun Ra which drives me through hyperspace into a new realm of existence. He was a Visionary. A Mystic. A Healer.
